New Vegas 'graphically no different to Fallout 3'

The guys over at GamesMaster somehow got their grubby little hands on an early version of Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas.

I guess people already noticed that, however imo i don't have a problem with that, because imo what got me in Fallout 3 was the gameplay and not the graphics. Which is also what matters to me.

Imo Graphics < Gameplay.

PhilipLarkin5412d ago

But still - I've slready played Fallout 3, and I don't really want to spend another 100+ hours on a game that looks the same and probably plays the same

Chris_TC5412d ago

It's gotta run on the same consoles as Fallout 3, so obviously it's going to look almost the same.

ign xbox said otherwise http://n4g.com/news/588960/... om-fallout-new-vegas-heading-s o uth/com#c-4141663

it always did look like f3.

A Cupcake for Gabe5412d ago

The graphics are outdated, but the game still makes really good use of the engine. The lighting on the strip looks very nice. Hopefully future titles will use the id tech 5 engine though.

My only issue is the glitches and bugs. Fallout 3 was the buggiest game of this gen, and it still was GOTY quality. I don't think New Vegas can still pack the same punch, regardless of quality, if the game is a buggy glitchfest. It's almost 2011; bugs and glitches on such a large scale should not be in games.

"Imo Graphics < Gameplay"

Do people always have to whip this excuse out when developers do poorly on the graphics?
Just because they make a fun game, that doesn't mean we should excuse them from making mistakes.

Graphics < Gameplay.
Nowadays it's all about the graphics and that is a sad thing..
It's nice to have something to look at but if the gameplay is shit then the game is shit. I hate when devs place graphics as an "Top Priority".

MisterNiwa5412d ago (Edited 5412d ago )

Yeah, I mean... Crysis only gets good ratings because of its Graphics. This is sad, real sad.

And the most sad part about it is, PC Gamer pretend to play this game just to say, YEAH WE GOT TEH GAMES WITH TEH GRAPHICS.
I never played such a boring game as Crysis for long. First time was cool, then.. meh.

I rather play Halo: Reach or Killzone 3 for their online modes.

Chris3995412d ago

I play a tonne of JRPGs - ROF, Agarest and X-Edge, currently - and aside from FF, most of the graphics in these games are serviceable at best. But they have charm and depth and you can't just manufacture that.

That aside, it's always nice to play a AAA visual tour-de-force. But most of those games are over in 8-12 hours, they're not the games that I spend the bulk of my time on.

Kingdom Come5412d ago (Edited 5412d ago )

Due to your choice of Word's, I'm guessing you have never actually played Crysis, have you? You just rely on some low-res YouTube videos to make a judgement of the game, am I right? Crysis had superb Graphics, yes, still untouchable today if played on the highest of settings, but it also had fantastic gameplay. The funny thing is, you listed Killzone 3 as one of the games you would rather play but to be honest, it's incredibly generic, sure it has mechs in the multiplayer, so did F.E.A.R 2, it has Jetpacks, so did Red Faction Guerilla. Don't judge what you haven't played. And by the way, I have a PS3 and I've played both Killzone 1 & 2...

MisterNiwa5412d ago

I dont have a high end PC you see? But I have friends with High End PC's and I've spent some time playing Crysis, but the Multiplayer was so meh...

Compared to Killzone 2 which is actually fun to play online.

Seriously, Crysis is no game that deserves a 9+ for its single player nor multiplayer.

TheGameFoxJTV5411d ago

I don't know who told you this, but Crysis was very fun, espically with mods. The single player alone was worth the purchase, it was a weird, but good experience. And who doesn't like being a actual super soldier destroying a bunch of stupid enemies and aliens. XD

Perjoss5412d ago

the real problem with graphics is graphics themselves, wait hear me out.

Yes graphics are important in most games, good graphics really help immerse you into the game world, bad lighting or low texture resolutions can really distract sometimes and break the illusion of being there. But here's my problem. When playing games like Crysis or Uncharted 2 you sometimes stop and look around and say to yourself "damn these graphics look good, look how real this looks" and there's the problem, the fact that you stop to focus on texture resolutions, view distances, depth effects, motion blur etc etc is also breaking the immersion, you are reminding yourself that its not a real place after the devs have worked so hard to try and trick your brain into partially believeing that you are really there.

Sometimes I wish I never knew anything about how game assets are made, wish I knew nothing about polygon counts or parallax mapping, I miss the days when I just used to say "this looks amazing and I'm having a ton of fun". I think when a game has average graphics and nothing too fancy you tend to just forget about the graphics and really get immersed and enjoy the game more?

Matthew945412d ago

Don't put Uncharted 2 beside Crysis for good graphics.

Thats like saying "Yeah, movies like Avatar and A Bug's Life have such good graphics."

JsonHenry5412d ago

Did anyone expect anything different? The landscape and building and location will all be different of course. But the game itself has never once appeared to have anything special over the original.

The PC version might get some higher rez textures than the previous, but even that is a maybe. You can always just hack the .cfg file and change everything to run beyond the in game maximum settings. Higher rez textures, longer draw distances, things like that.

Game-ur5412d ago

IMOO the art direction dos seem a bit better.
It's OK this time but for the future they should use the Rage engine, there is no reason not to, the company owns ID tech and the engine is open world friendly.

Just imagine great gameplay + incredible graphics.

blodulv5412d ago

Fallout 3 gameplay??? It was good, but it wasn't necessarily great. Bethesda themselves stated that as a shooter it was probably middle of the road... it was the living breathing world and sheer amount of exploration that kept people engaged.

And that world stems largely from... cha-ching! Graphics and art style! They both matter, jus sayin'.

socomnick5412d ago

This is retarded. Fallout 3 looked liek downright shit.

Bethesda acquired ID why not use them to make the game engines.

TheGameFoxJTV5411d ago

We get texture updates. XD

Lucreto5412d ago

I hope they worked more on the PS3 version of the game. The slowdown was horrible and it freezing got annoying when it happens for 100hrs.

Nate-Dog5412d ago

Yeah it certainly hasn't looked much better in any trailers and previews. I mean of course the main thing is that it plays well and has a good story (etc.) but c'mon, there's no reason why they couldn't have touched up the graphics even a bit. It's just laziness on their part / rushing the game out too early.

King_many_layers5412d ago

You've got to remember though, they're probably busy trying to get rid of all the bugs from the previous engines...

at the very least, they could have improved our character animations.... 4 years in and we#re still walking like robots ????????????

Nate-Dog5412d ago

Yeah I guess you're right, but it was only the PS3 version that was bugged, wasn't it? And I personally didn't experience any of those (but i've certainly heard about how bad and irritating some of them were).

Matthew945412d ago (Edited 5412d ago )

^^^ it was only the ps3 version that was bugged????

you HAVE to be joking, it was a mess on all platforms.

Take it from someone who has it on PC and PS3

CrawFail5412d ago

In my experiences of F3 on both the 360 and PS3 they're both buggy as hell. The GOTY edition I have on PS3 in damn near unplayable at points, dropping down to crazy low frame rates and freezing outright, but that was mostly on the extra missions. I can't remember the 360 version being as bad but it was only the regular version and it was probably 3 years ago since I played it on 360.
Not seen it on PC though.

PS3 Masta5412d ago

3 years since you played it on 360? Then you played it at least a year before it came out..

TheGameFoxJTV5411d ago

My PC version didn't start freezing until i put some conflicting mods into my game. I think that broke the game for me, cause on the final level, it crashed like 20 times. XD

I played the original on the PC. And I don't recall any bugs whatsoever.

dosgrtr5412d ago

an improvement in graphics and gameplay

TLG19915412d ago

doesn't really bother me its not like its got terrible graphics and who expects rpgs to have amazing graphics anyways, they just don't

HeroXIV5412d ago

Gothic 4, The Witcher 2, Mass Effect 2 all have pretty damn awesome graphics.

tdrules5412d ago

on PC most RPGs look stunning...

TLG19915412d ago

ok yea i have mass effect 2 on pc and the graphics are amazing but then again its not like fallout open world sandbox type rpg (before anyone says anything im not ripping mass effect i LOVE that game and also fallout) so it is easier for mass effect to have better graphics, i cant be bothered explaining you will know what i mean lol

Ape Escape.
Fun game but, wow, you need a college degree to understand the controls.
A remaster would also save you from having to constantly fight the camera.
Keep the music though. Those drum and bass tracks fit really well and haven't aged. Made me think that more games could work well with drum and bass tracks, but unfortunately it's a somewhat niche genre now.
