Red Faction: Armageddon is set for release in March of next year. Much like Electronic Arts is doing with Dead Space 2, THQ will release a downloadable Red Faction just before the release of Armageddon in order to get you hyped for the big game (which is fitting, since Armageddon actually reminds me a bit of Dead Space). The downloadable effort is called Red Faction: Battlegrounds and is quite different from the retail games. Instead of a third-person shooter focusing on environmental destruction, Battlegrounds is a multiplayer vehicular combat game. Think Scrap Metal on Xbox Live Arcade and you have a good idea of what Battlegrounds is all about.

DSOGaming writes: "THQ released today 24 new screenshots of Red Faction: Battlegrounds."
