A former employee of a GameStop video game store in Hammond was sentenced to 40 years behind bars for robbing GameStop outlets in St. Tammany Parish last year.
I don't get it. This guy gets 40 years for pointing a gun at someones face and taking what they have. Yet the guy in jail next to him is serving 5-10 years for blowing someones face off, or something even worse along the lines of rape. The government is fucking retarded.
I agree 100%, child rapists, some murderers, don't get nearly as harsh a sentence. I'm not defending this guy and neither are you, but the sentence is too long
Not only are we not aware of what his past criminal record is but this is a total of 4, 10 year sentences, not one. We should, by all means, be infuriated by lenient sentences given to child molesters and rapists etc., but that doesn't mean this guy should get less because he doesn't measure up! If you go around threatening to take innocent peoples lives with a box cutter or any weapon for that matter you should go to jail for a looooong time. With the amount of robberies this guy is suspected of committing he was well on his way to becoming a career criminal and I fit one am glad he's off the streets. He will receive no sympathy from me. Or, you can think like EvilBlackCat and immediately start making excuses for him like its because 'he's black.' Yeah, it had nothing to do with him threatening to slice open innocent people for a few bucks. Just like it's the 'foriegn banks' fault the US economy is what it is. It had nothing to do with de-regulation and the fact the US banks were handing out ridiculously over-valued mortages to anyone who could sign their name!
Blitz that doesn't excuse the system being messed up, nor is encouraging it along the way.
Blitzed is right. You guys are being unfairly judgmental, with very little info to analyze. And BlackCat is being paranoid.
Like the ones who steal insane amounts of money. Less than 10 years and then they get out to enjoy the loot!
Because he is... BLACK? yeah i asked the question so what? The foreign banks stole the US economy and i dont see anyone doing shit to them. I mean where are the tough guys now people?
Counting their ammo for when "the time" comes to do something about these banks and the government.
"The government is fucking retarded." yep, our country loves splitting hairs without even realizing it. ultimately, it's the judges and peers who accentuate the mantra of how screwed up america's legal system is. EDIT: @EvilBlackCat LOL thats funny, but you're probably right.
He didn't even have a gun, just a box-cutter. Seems like they're trying to make an example out of him or something.
Most likely for multiple counts. It's 10 years minimum for armed robbery, so it looks like he got the minimum sentence.
Oh yeah. THIS is ridiculous...
♥ I would usually write a nice and cute line calling this guy a loser but I honestly don't know what to say right now. It really sad! He just threw his entire life away for games ♥
a true gamer!
a hilarious comment!
you're so right. 40 years of life for something that would probably only had kept him entertained for 40 minutes a play session. sad irony EDIT: @Zuhk lol i guess you could look at it that way.
I can't imagine his reaction when he heard the sentence. I agree that this is a bit cruel punishment regardless of what he did. Don't get me wrong though, I don't condone at all what he did but at the same time I believe they went a bit to steep with his sentence. He doesn't even look 30. It must suck to know that you are wasting 40 years doing absolutely nothing. Its like reliving everything that you did in your lifetime thus far, and then some.
let this be a listen to everyone to never second guess or judge our legal system. nowadays we can't anticipate the consequences of our actions and only expect a slap on the wrist.
Is this the guy that wrote for that blog and had his mom go in and try to steal a game for him? No? Oh just some other random (insert racial slur here) who wanted some free shit from a world than has kept him down? :-p
LOL* nice, bubbles my man
Really stupid. He didn't even hurt anyone.
The people should write the sentences, not the judges.
peers play a role into it too, actually.
God, 40 years?? That's ridiculous. He didn't even kill anyone did he?
peace out thug, and good riddens, if you didnt do the crime there would be nothing to be shocked about
He's a thug huh what makes him a thug ?I really need to know.
oops, didn't read it properly. Boxcutter. wtf. SHould have just sent him home with a 360 and halo reach, punishment enough.
He's be out soon due to overcrowding. a majority of inmates never serve there full sentences due to this.
thats about 38 years more then he deserves
all without even hurting someone, never mind killing even if this is multiple sentences this is still to much for just robbery, hope he gets a good appeal result just to be clear im not condoning his actions but anyone with common sense would give him 5 years max i could hit and run (by accident of course) the judge who sentenced this guy and get less then 2 years funny world we live in
40 years of wasted taxpayer money.
daam right, lets just save some money and hook him up to the electric chair right now.
lead the way
So is the welfare and unemployment compensation this guy was likely collecting...
I feel sorry for the guy but you should not steal in the first place
He had stolen from the store previously so he's a repeat scumbag. As for the sentence, some states tack on several years if a weapon was used in the commission of a crime.
40yrs! Jeez Louise that's ridiculous, I actually feel terrible for him. That's some fucked up system you have right there.
Don't do the crime! First of all, the law is the law. They didn't decide the penalty for armed robbery the day after they caught the guy. Second, if the penalty was say, one year, instead of ten, I'd be willing to bet there would be a whole heck of a lot more armed robberies than there already is. It doesn't take quite as much desperation when you know the penalty isn't as severe. Third, he may have robbed up to 5 other gamestops in the area. Not to mention, he was fired for stealing from the company in the first place. The guy is ****ing scum. Why is everyone feeling so bad for a criminal? It's not like the guy did it to feed his kids.
then you shouldnt comment; the legal system in the south is much more stringent on charges applied. if he was working to get his masters that should not have been an object of evidence in his trial.theres really not much to say other than that if you live in the south and your a criminal you can forget about dreams of the mundane life as a country citizen with income from illegal activities; and you need to get your head straight and go full tilt, because the way charges are handled the only option you will have after they are pressed is either a life of crime or servitude to crime. the way laws are passed by representatives is also a very funny thing; because there is no voting by a person on the additions to laws other than selecting someone to act as an agent on your behalf regarding the changes that take place in state law.this is for louisiana i am referring.this issue is compounded by expectations of what is morally correct and sociological interpretations of what is proper and improper for a citizen; all voted by an agent that has no oversight by the citizen that elects the agent to act on their behalf(parish representatives).couple that issue with 2nd generation americans who could care less about the functioning of the machine as long as it functions as the machine they know as american government; and you have a system that to me hands out its verdicts and selects its laws on what is morally correct and incorrect and disregards the personal moral implications pertaining to the verdicts and how they effect people who by another persons expression was not a proper citizen in the first place(a black gay or drug user) or receiving of benefits that they feel they are entitled as citizen (welfare unemployment ssi). off topic; as of aug 15 2010 it is illegal to own incense blends(fake weed) and has the same penalties of owning marijuana. louisiana born louisiana living.
DAM 40 years for some video games and super mario bobble heads he would of gotten lesser time if he would have stole a car, drove drunk, knocked over a fire hydrant, killed someone, ran from the cops, resisted arrest, while caring a loaded unregistered gun and possessing narcotics. 15 years max
I don't actually think it's the time in prison that is the issue with the legal systems etc. It's the quality of life inmates get, they are there after all, to be punished. Not for internet, footy, games consoles, etc etc. It's way to easy for people, that's why they keep doing it.
