This is a big deal. I see another blow out on sales. Back an forth till on prices till the end. Wii is sitting back thinking "WTF, this is madness. I don't even have a hard drive"

kevnb5001d ago

*sigh*

This just seems like a disgrace to the series. It's like the Battlefield Heroes of AoE.

I remember when I was younger, I loved playing AoE and AoE2 with my cousins. We used to take turns and give each other advice, lots of fun. Then Age of Mythology came out and mixed things up while still keeping the same traditional feel and look of past AoE games, it was possibly my favorite. AoE3 was also awesome, but my computer couldn't handle it well.

Without Ensemble behind it, this just won't be the same. I'm not sure how I feel about the cartoony look, and I'm assuming since it's called Age of Empires Online.. there won't be a singleplayer campaign? Ugh... lame.

kissmeimgreek5001d ago

well its buy robot entertainment which was formed by most of the ensemble guys and i think its meant to focus on co op which could be a cool new direction. (im sure single platyer will still be an option). no idea how they will make money though. micro transactions for different units seems kinda stupid to me.

Conloles5001d ago

I won't judge it till I play it but it seems to be going in the wrong direction :(

hassi944998d ago

You know what Conloles? You posted a comment without insulting consoles so I'll bubble you up :P

But yeah, not too sure about this. They say there's 25 hours of free content, and you only pay for big packs of content rather than microtransactions.

I've signed up to the beta, we'll see how it plays.

herukuti5001d ago

they need to iron out the business model and their approach to social gaming; make it like live on the first xbox and id pay live type sub fees in the form of micro transactions.

Wizziokid5001d ago

could be good, not a fan of the graphic style, preferred the old one but the whole active 24/7 could be interesting one night you might go to bed, you log on in the morning and your village has been destroyed.

Lucreto5001d ago

am happy AoE is back but I don't like that it is online at all. If there is no single player campaign I will not buy it and this comes from a huge fan of the series.

The Team Fortress graphics will be okay for me as I play Settlers 7 which has the same type of graphics.

Age of Empires is not getting it's deserved love even though it's the key to win PC gaming back

With the recent closure of Age of Empires Online, the future of the Age of Empires franchise doesn't look good as no game in the series has been announced.

But why is this happening? Microsoft said that PC gaming was important to them yet one of their most important IP's seems to be stopped

I am sure PC Gamers can understand that Microsoft has got their hands full with trying to keep the Xbox One from not dieing a painful death.

MrGunny943585d ago

PC divison is not the same as Xbox divison though :-)

OpieWinston3585d ago

But PC division is still under Microsoft Games Studio.

It's getting the love it deserves. The re release of 2 HD is a sign of Age of Empires 4 in development.

I'm hoping for it, and can't wait.

Metallox3585d ago (Edited 3585d ago )

I do, but I honestly miss a lot Age of Empires. A fourth entry in the series wouldn't hurt to anyone.

3-4-53585d ago

I don't want anybody except Ensemble Studios Making a New Age of Empires game.

They don't exist anymore though.

If you could get a core group of original people from Ensemble I'd be all for it.

Age of Empires 1 HD complete remake needs to happen.

Like rebuilt from the ground up.

Metallox3585d ago

Remake of Age of Empires 1? Don't know... I'd prefer Age of Empires II.

3-4-53584d ago

Yea of course Age1. So many good civs.

It's been begging for a remake for over a decade now.

I thought they would after Age 3, then they disbanded.

SilentNegotiator3585d ago (Edited 3585d ago )

After AOE Online, I don't think anyone is holding out for AOE to "win PC gaming back"

Microsoft on What Went Wrong with Age of Empires Online

Age of Empires is a great IP and when Microsoft released the MMO version in August 2011, many players played it. But Age of Empires Online turned out to be unsuccessful because of the poor business model it used at launch. Today at GDC, Executive Producer Kevin Perry looked back the original F2P model of the game and explained how they fixed it.
