Has EA gone too far with Medal of Honor?

We all love FOX News: they’re one of the best outlets out there to make a drinking game out of. Another biased reporter spewing nonsense? Drink! This time, however, it seems FOX News is defending the correct side of the spectrum in a discussion surrounding Electronic Arts’ upcoming title Medal of Honor.

... FOX News recently conducted an interview with Karen Meredith, a representative from Golden Star Moms hoping to answer the question: “Has gaming gone too far?”

My was a comment sarcastically explaining the rationale on why people seem ok with playing as an American shooting people, especially in Middle-Eastern themed shooters, yet cannot rationalize playing as someone shooting AT Americans.

Btw. Jesus may have been a false prophet. I'm not Christian so I don't ascribe to his religious credentials. I do know the Qur'an calls him a prophet though.

most of the shooters i/u play when based in a real world will always have factions. Say like British Russian and American

the other shooters are sci-fi and not based on REAL world stuff. MW2 was not just Americans doing the killings. I had many Russians killing ppl left and right of me :-)

BF1943 Lets you play as Japaneese, you can even use a sword to impale American soldiers. MOH underground on PS2 let you play as Nazi's in split screen 1vs1 matches.

Killing ppl in the game isnt the problem. Being a terrorist is the problem. I've yet to play a game that puts me in the role of an American terrorist but if the day comes I wouldnt play the game. It doesnt sound fun to play a game where you kill unarmed civilians. Where's the challenge? See how skilled you r by killing ppl who cant shoot back? It's a videogame and it's called freedom of expression. EA should be able to make a game based entirely on a Taliban terrorist protagonist (oxymoron) if they so choose just like a book or movie is allowed to create something that demonstrates the Taliban's point of view. It's up to us to not support it if we find it offensive. Myopic arbitrary censorship and suppression of creative freedoms is more akin to Taliban practices than American.

If it would not have been for their persistence, you would probably not be using a computer right now. If they were not oppressed in the first place, we may have landed a human on Mars by now.

Creativity, curiosity, science, and many other things should not be stifled in order to please a few people.

Even though I applaud them for exploring the subject and are attempting something that hasn't been done in games (to my knowledge), the game wasn't that fun for me. If they fix a lot of crap from the crappy beta, I may pick it up. But I think I played the game for 2 hours before I decided I wouldn't be picking it up. It tries to hard to be like MW, which is not what I wanted from the game.

I watched this documentary "Second Skin", and in it, there was a mother who's child died because he was super depressed and was completely sucked into a mmorpg.

He killed himself, and she went on a campaign to help gaming addicts. No matter how misguided it was, I still couldn't blame her in any way. I'd probably hate mmorpgs as well, at least that's something to blame.

Mothers act like that. I can't blame this Medal of Honor opponent, and I can see how it could upset her truly, especially if she doesn't understand video games.

first off my condolences to karen meredith- i understand your point of view and some of us are thankful for the sacrifices that men and women in our military make everyday. on this point seeing some of the comments on this makes me sick. i realize some of you or most aren't from the states, and therefore act cool on n4g and act like you "hate us" but it just makes some of you look like idiots.

if you guys can't understand her feelings on this then you either
a- don't have children
b- are prolly a little young and too immature to understand.

now for my other point and some in here i do agree with- the "its a game" comment. that's true. and i agree with that 100%. in a sense rather it be video games, which is "an unrealistic" way to portray current events that our military goes through it can also be a good thing to let those people that play this game maybe understand what our soldiers are going through everyday.

movies based on this would be "better" in a sense but letting people be more aware of this war certainly can't be all bad. i realize this media format being a game prolly won't hit as hard as a movie but exposing the challenges that our military faces in afghanistan even slightly, might help people realize just how serious this war is.

wished i could say this to mrs. meredith but if i could i'd say- sorry for your loss and sons sacrifice, but movies and games based around real world wars have existed a long time. no other war is "more important" than the others, and life goes on. also she is more than welcomed to ignore this game and any movie that may come out in the future about this topic.

but i also have the right to play games, watch movies, or whatever i choose to. if this game was in "really poor taste" i'd feel different, but from what i have seen of it it's no different than any other shooter.

Lets bring out whole new campaign where the Afghanistan soldiers try to defend against the US army. Would bring nice new point of view and refreshing story to tell about the war.

Story about a young man who one day gets in middle of missile bombardment and sees his families and friends die one after another and joins the hopeless fight against far stronger enemy with far more advanced weapons and well trained troops.
It would be more fight for survival, with missions where they try to do everything they can with what they have to slow down the inevitable defeat. It would not be run and gun game, as the player would need to use all his sneaking/strategy/trickster skills to clear the levels, as run and gun would lead to quick death.

suicide bomber themed mini-game would be rad with online high-score list, but thats probably too much to ask. Would give the game some insane amount of media time in US and probably start up few anti-gaming laws as well. -It's just a game-
