The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword’s Control Problem

But the issue the article is focusing on is that normal, non-mutant players have to emulate south paws when using the bow. Why must Nintendo choose to persecute the right-handed so? Have we not suffered enough?

I am very dissapointed that nintendo has pretty much just abandoned us adn one of the most interesting things about link (that he was left handed). How hard is it to just mirror link in the game so lefties can play it just as well ( I find it really annoying to try and play wii right handed).

They have to make a left handed model for link and make every animation again for that model. The other option is what they did on TP which was mirror the whole world for the Left handed version. I still think they are just being lazy though and basing on the fact that most people are right handed.

Its always been LEFT.
They couldn't abandon you cause you were never an issue to begin with.( and i meant this in a no offensive way btw).

When i played twilight princess i noticed link was right handed, which was a head scratcher to me. THen i read that the world was flipped to compensate for the wii mote. I believe nintendo could do a flip world too if they so choose. The original Uncharted did it as a unlockable so why not include a feature like that in the new zelda? Its feasible but it kinda sucks that the minorities get left out.

I didn't get to try out the demo at E3, but I watched a few people playing it. It looks fun, but I'll reserve judgment until I get a chance to play it myself. I'm still upset that Link isn't left-handed anymore! (I don't see being ambidextrous as still being a lefty). I'm a proud lefty, and he was one of my heroes! Too bad they have to pander to the apparent majority of gamers who are right-handed. Damn you all.

Why don't they just implement the classic controller so we don't get tired when we play. It would also make the controls more like zelda:tp.
Edit: It would also fix the left/right hand issue for all weapons.

Wait upon further reading it seems the writer is making this issue up. I mean forgetting that ANY lefty gamer got use to right handed controls years ago, they make it sound like using the Wii remote in the right hand and nunchuk in left is hard for a lefty to do. That is exactly how I play Wii games as a lefty.

Most of you are not lefties so I can see why you would not get this but as a lefty I got use to a right handed world in first grade. AS a lefty it is just something you get use to. Wii is the first console to even allow you to play as a lefty(Lynx being the first but it was a portable.)

Things that make this seem fake. The whole control issue or lack there of.

No pics or anything of them actually playing the game themselves, just an opening that honestly seems based more of the one pic he has than actually game playing time.

I play anything except the 360 and I as a lefty have never had any control issues. I probably wont be playing Zelda myself but this just seems like a sad pathetic attempt to make an issue out of something that is not.

I got on here thinking I would find a seriously flaw with the controls, like they are not 1:1, but all I find is some BS article that just doesnt add up.

Wii Sports Resort gives the player the option. If you are left handed then you hold the remote/nunchuck in the way that you would for just about any game. That is Remote right hand, nunchuck left.

In Wii Sports Resort Archery the game tells you to hold the remote in your LEFT HAND and the nunchuck in your RIGHT HAND if you are a RIGHTY. Skyward Sword forces players to do the archery as they are left handed according to this. This can be seen in Nintendo's E3 Press Conference when Miyamoto is demonstrating the game.

I'm also pretty sure that the guy who wrote this article placed 2nd overall in the Wii summer games and knows a thing or two about the Wii and it's controls. More so than a guy named Captain Sony anyhow :-)

As a left handed person I do not see an issue here. Anyone who has gamed more than a gen or two uses their left hand for analog control.

What some guys Screen Name is, its about what is written under it. And Captain Sony hit my sentiments on the first paragraph. I mean we all know the game looked awesome (not the E3 presentation, but the E3 Demo) At this point its just hating.

I just want to see more. But in all honesty, with the games Wii's got coming to it in the second half, I'm in no hurry for Zelda to drop.

Maybe you should have been a little more specific then? The PS2 was clearly the first console to offer lefty support.

You should probably keep in mind that the Wii's main controls are the first in console history that aren't naturally ambidextrous to begin with. Being the first to offer left handed controls in the OS is logical given the type of control scheme, don't you think?

Wait so now you are trying to say because the Wii controller was designed in a way to work with both left and right that some how that doesnt count? But a 3rd party controller that worked with 1 game is enough to say PS2 did it first.

I feel that changing the Bow and arrow control from pointing to this Wii sports resort style is an unfortunate mistake.

when i took archery lessons they actually made me do a little eye test thingy before i ever held the bow to see which way i should hold it. It was a focus test to see which eye I closed to get focus on somthing. I had to hold the bow what seemed to me to be the left handed way because the eye I had open had to be looking down the bow to improve accuracy or somthing.

This was some years ago now I dont recall the exact details but I really dont think this little detail in zelda matters.

Its called IR interference. It happens in things that use IR. My panasonic plasma causes IR interference my AT&T cable remote. It doesn't work all the time due to that interference. The move i'll have a different kinda of interference and we've already seen the problems occur in Kinect demo's.

Right hand link is awesome! I think his righ hand is more powerful that the cell CPU. Links right has better story and plus it's going to be on blu ray and blu ray does not spell left handed.

Man if this option is in the game meaning final version then this guy is going to be crushed. I wonder how all of these other wii games work, I really never look for the hand option? Does he hold a gad pad backwards? Why is that ok?
