Mafia II Demo: Five Things That Stand Out (RunDLC)

Move over, Scott Pilgrim. Today’s biggest game (at least until Sony updates PlayStation Network) is Mafia II, 2K Games’ open world adventure starring wise guys with accents and guns. The recently released demo features a short mission, ten moments of free-roaming fun and five nudie magazines. It’s over too soon, but what’s here offers a solid glimpse of what everyone can expect from this highly-anticipated title.

Having played the demo multiple times, here’s a short list of stuff that impressed us the most.

havent come close to finishing RDR...
was not graphically impressed with the 360 version of Mafia2 and I read the PS3 is less.
the demo was ok, just nothing to make me even consider a buy now

Both versions come with bonuses.

The PS3 version has extra missions.

The 360 version has foliage, proper lighting and AA (no Quincunx or TwinCocks or whatever it's called).

Best thing of course is to get the PC version. If you have one that can run it that is.

I don't think the PS3 version even used quincunx anti-aliasing. I did a side by side comparison with the PC version with both at 720p, and it appeared that the PS3 version was sub-HD. My guess is that it's 1152x640 with no anti-aliasing. I haven't seen the 360 version in person(Silver member), but it's very unlikely that it can stand up to the PC version.

Its worth renting. The jaggies and slow downs are really bad. Especially when you run up the stairs after you kill the guy with the shotgun. Whatever game engine there using its time to update it or get better programmers.

i played the demo version earlier and was truly unimpressed it had some nice moments but over all i didnt like it

I played the 360 version I'll try the PS3 one today but this is what stood out for me.

1) Poor framerate
2) Screan Tearing galore
3) Jaggies everywhere
4) Gunplay fails compared to Red Dead, if I shoot someone in the leg they should fall down and no one should withstand 6 bullets without body armor.
5) Quirky camera at times but it's minor.

I'll admit the story looks interesting but I'm not sure iritis can save the gameplay and graphics.

I had the same problems with the PS3 demo as gypsygib did with 360 one. Poor framerate, tearing and jaggies. Didn't notice gunplay and camera but did the others. Hoping the games better.

But the gameplay was spot-on. The guns are very powerful, they kill in 1-2 hits, and if your dumbass wants to kill someone don't aim for the fucking legs.

The thing that stood out to me was how the aiming reticule was at the top of the screen. Did that not bug anyone else?

i was really looking forward to this game but too many little things are putting me off like the really small text and the fact that you have to line up really well to interact with stuff in his flat.

The demo was fun but being called the prettiest open wrold game? No. This is even the PS3 version they are playing which is suppose to look worse compared to the 360 version.
Not that its a bad looking game but compared to the amount of detail that went into RDR it just doesn't match it.

The physics don't even come close to the PC version. If you got a PC that can support the physics its worth checking out the demo just for it.

The original Mafia is right up there in my favourite games ever made, a stunning cinematic experience, and although I loved this demo the anti-aliasing is pretty bad with a bit of frame rate stutter to go with it, not game breaking, and the game world looks incredibly detailed so hopefully it won't hinder enjoyment of the final game.

The dialogue is fantastic though with some awesome use of violence, and the playboy collectibles surely have to be the best collectibles in a game to date!

Can't wait to play this bad boy.

Demo was alright and I could see myself picking this up one day at a reduced price but not 60 bucks.

At least for the 360 version, I did notice the framerate issues and screen tearing issues will be trying the PS3 version tonight, but from what I hear and see, it suffers from the same issues.
