Swinnich writes: It makes total sense that they would want to charge a subscription fee, it really does. The truth is that to keep the brand, and maybe the entire genre alive, they may have to. But tacking it on to the current format is not going to work. If Activision wants to charge users to play, they need to step past what they’ve already established and offer something fresh.
A variety of new updates are available this month across the gaming platforms. Coming today, Retro Classics games are available to play for Xbox Game Pass members. Players who stream on the Xbox app on PC now have an additional streaming option with GeForce Now. Game Bar introduces quick settings, visual updates for Widgets in Compact Mode, and coming soon, Microsoft Edge Game Assist, an in-game browser that brings an immersive game-centric experience to Edge. And Xbox gift cards can now be redeemed for any amount via Xbox Rewards.
While i appreciate the gesture.... all of these retro classics have been made available everywhere else. I am hoping to see some other Activision properties make their way out of the shackles of the 5th, 6th and 7th gen. Licensing be damned... bring back the Transformers Cybertron games.
Metaphor on Gamepass just announced! O.o
Seriously, this is the best generation of Xbox ever!!!
We can´t catch a freaking break from awesome games arriving all the time!!!
We have many great Call of Duty games with bad Campaigns in the series and Call of Duty 2025 could very well become one of them.
More hyped for CoD 2026.
IW's at helm. Supposedly doing an engine evolution similar to MW'19. Evident by the current-gen only rumors.
I uninstalled cod24 the campaign was just cobbled together that dream state you go in and then there's that boss that throws gunk at you. How can you have boss fight in a cod
EA just hosted its quarterly financial conference call, and its executives have been asked to comment about the recent price hikes for games.
Must?
If they "must" charge I'd like to see dedicated servers at the very least.
See, the problem is, as great as the COD formula is (I really do like how it plays, minus all the issues it's a terrific, responsive, and addictive formula-- CoD4 is still the best), they just don't have the content that someone like Bungie has.
Bungie has good matchmaking, a TON of variety in their modes and playlists, custom games with custom maps, modes, etc., a theater, split-screen online, extremely great stat tracking, etc.
That's a dev group that can earn "pay to play" more easily than Activision. Call of Duty? No. They just don't add that extra effort.
Now, I am open to them charging to us, I really am, but they really have to step it up. I'd like to see everything Bungie has given us at the very least, but even then, if Bungie can do all that for free, why not Activision?
Why? Because XBL rakes in alot of $$$ doing basically the same thing. Plus, alot of companies have to be very jealous of Blizzard and how much $$$ they make.
" The truth is that to keep the brand, and maybe the entire genre alive, they may have to."
*crosses fingers that they don't charge now* I'm sure it would be an international day of mourning if Cod and fps' died. I wouldn't know what to do with myself. /s
There's more gamers out there that don't play fps' than there are people who do.
Do it like EA, buy it new or pay 10-15 dollars to play online. That's the only way i see it being fair, and having dedicated servers.
They must charge so they can get rid of all those pesky fans.
