New iPhone 5 coming early because of the antenna issues?

The iPhone is a waste of money, in my opinion. Why pay 2x a normal smartphone for half the features and severely restricted platform with very little freedom, as well as restricted to one of the worst phone networks that overcharge for everything and is slow, ATT? Android phones are just much better, like the HTC Evo 4G. It uses 4G signals instead of iPhone's somewhat-out-of-date 3G, and the Android OS has 3x the features of the iPhone. Besides, developing for it is free.

It makes alot of sense to release an iphone5 or a new ipohne 4 redesign coz what everyone has now and is callin an iphone 4 is actually a prototype apple rushed out so since the one which was gotten by the press b4 it was released was not covered my copyright so the design could be copied and a cheaper ones would hv come into the market making the iphone reduce in value and price thus the antenna was still faulty. apple just pushed it out quick b4 anyone got their hands on the blueprint...
those who have the iphone 4 sorry but its always best to make sure a product is stable b4 diving in.. especially when u have controversial situations happening b4 it launches..

IMO iphone was ahead at first but now with phones like droid, evo and the new nokia n8(hasn't released yet but soon)I don't see y people do some research about the product first. It likely won't be an iPhone5 if anything at all, just a modified frame of the iPhone4. Nothing else needs to change but the new external antennae concept, which other phone companies are having problems with doing as well due to the recent law changes to how they are utilized.

Ontopic: damn I was looking to pick up the iphone4g next week when I got paid. But this is to be expected from apple since they release an updated( more like outdated) phone every year. I hope they have all the features others phones have this time in the 5g.

@thrust: thanks mate. I need one badly my old 3g battery is dead I have to leave it on the charger just to do anything with it. I was going to get the 4g three weeks ago but I heard about the problem with the antenna and thought I'd wait til they fixed it to get one. But the problem never made not want it. I just want apple to start inputting features that current phone have now without having to wait another year for those features.

I bought the original Iphone in 2007 and only last month bought the Iphone 4. I feel that I've got great value out of the Iphones so far. I usually used to change my mobile every year. Now I'm aiming for 3 years plus the iphone meets my requirements. phone (obviously), stylish (a bit shallow but I'll admit to this), Ipod, video, apps (business card scanner, conversion program, games etc), Ipod connection to my cars Ipod interface (whole music database on the go), e-mail connection, internet just like on a PC, and much more.

So I don't really care if there is a 4G next year. I haven't had any dropped calls yet even though I can see the bars going down. I hope to keep this till the next big replacement in about 3 years. In fact, this is a far superior phone to the original Iphone in almost every way. The super clear and detailed screen is a real noticeable improvement over any other phone or display I've ever seen. After using it for a while all other portable device screens look fuzzy.

I have the iPhone 4 and the antenna issue is complete bullshit. TOTALY blown out of proportion....a story pushed by Gizmodo to try and take revenge on apple. The iphone 4 has not only way better reception than the 3GS, but the BEST CALL quality of any mobile phone to date....ever. The only iphone coming in january is a CDMA version for Verizon.

The antenna issue clearly exists. You seem not to understand how it works. By placing your finger on the trouble spot, you attenuate the signal by a significant amount (-20-30 dBm or so). If you're in an area with good reception, you'll still hold a signal, but it will be weaker. If you're in a poor reception area, that attenuation will push you over the threshold of maintaining a signal, which is around -120 dBm. Independent tests by many people, notably Consumer Reports, confirm that the issue exists and it is a problem. Apple, like a stubborn child, still refuses to admit that their phone is fundamentally flawed.

And best call quality? Really?
Funny, in all of the reviews I've read, the Droid X is crowned the call quality champion.

If the iPhone antenna problem was complete B.S., why is Apple spending millions of dollars giving their customers free bumpers? If it wasn't true, I'm sure Apple would spend countless hours proving the media wrong. They would save a large amount of money and save their reputation. Obviously, the antenna problem didn't affect every iPhone 4, but it affected enough phones for Apple to decide to do what they did.
