Violence in Splatterhouse Will Make Kratos Blush

DualShockers writes, "Splatterhouse is a classic game that just won’t stay gone from the gaming world any longer. As you may have heard recently the franchise will be receiving an all-new iteration on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that has plenty of monsters, guts, and gore to go around. Featuring the ability to unlock the classic Japanese Arcade original as well as the two sequels from the Genesis, this game serves as a collection of the retro 2D action game as well as a 3D romp in the universe that allows you to lose a limb and beat people down with it. Take a look at the developer interview with Daniel Tobar, Associate Producer of Splatterhouse..."

running animation sucks.. also combat seems clunky and boring..

D4RkNIKON5015d ago (Edited 5015d ago )

There is an unnecessary amount of blood splattering all over the place for what ever reason. The quick time event at the 3 minute mark looks like it was taken right from GOW...

OneSneakyMofo5015d ago

The blood is a main component of the game. From the video, you can purchase new moves.

ChickeyCantor5015d ago

" The quick time event at the 3 minute mark looks like it was taken right from GOW"

Im sorry...but no.
QTE go way before GOW.
Plus you can;t put a patent on a kill move.
You think GoW wasn't inspired by other stuff?

WLPowell5015d ago

actually when rick is ripping his head off looks almost exactly frame-for-frame copied from the helios head rip. so you fail at disagreeing just for the sake of being butthurt that someone gave praise to a PS3 game.

D4RkNIKON5015d ago

@WLPowell, it also looks just like when Kratos is on top of one of those giant cyclopses and he rips out their eye.

ExplosionSauce5015d ago (Edited 5015d ago )

Could someone tell these devs that more blood doesn't equal more mature?

I was amused by the blood and gore in the old Mortal Kombat games when I was 10. But now, not so much.
I mean, what is the plot here? Does it have an engaging theme?
I hope gore and violence are not the only thing that will drive this game. Otherwise, I hope it's just fun enough to get into.

ChickeyCantor5015d ago

"tually when rick is ripping his head off looks almost exactly frame-for-frame copied from the helios head rip. "

What...so when a character in FPS game all shoot the same way we keep ourselves silent?

He is ripping of his head, what do you expect from such position, you can't honestly say its a rip-off. Its the same as calling a button press a rip-off.

LOL, I can't wait for my girlfriend to watch this game. She already thinks I'm some sort of messed-up serial killer after watching me slaughter people in God of War 3 out of pure enjoyment.

APOFISBORICUA5015d ago

long before GOW was even mentioned. Dont get me wrong my favorite series is GOW and number 3 is so far my GOTY but this game on the GENESIS back in the days was SICK!!!!!!!!!. I remember how I tease the Super Nes fanboys about the gory and SATANIC content on SPLATTERHOUSE 2 and 3. I must be in a minority rigth now ( maybe becasue todays gamers dont know much about it), but SPLATTERHOUSE returns for me is one of the most anticipated games of the year and I have HIGH hopes for it.

PEACE AND GAMING!!

Myze5015d ago (Edited 5015d ago )

The game looks fun (the old one was pretty fun, but no masterpiece), but comparing the gore in this to GoW3 doesn't fit. GoW3 is realistic (obviously the monsters and such aren't), this game is stylized and slightly cartoony (and overly excessive like GeoW...who knew people/monsters had 100 liters of blood inside them?). There is nothing wrong with this style, but I don't think it's a good comparison.

These scenes don't give the same "yuck" "ouch" "oooh" feeling that the more brutal stuff in GoW3 did. GoW3 stuff felt like it could be real, which obviously will make the scenes resonate better. GoW3 also has better graphics and FAR better animation, which probably goes a long way in representing the gore.

Either way though, looks like fun, but fun like Prototype (with the definite possibility of being extremely repetitious, thus being worth a rent, but not a purchase). I will wait before a purchase, but will also be keeping my eye on the game.

Lord_Doggington5015d ago

haha, people who have "kept the franchise alive."

Who's he talking about? lol

Hitman07695015d ago

This title looks fun to me, I like the idea of so much gore taking precedence over multi-player because frankly some multi-player games are so boring these days I'd rather not even play them. Judging by the online player count in said games, I tend to think people agree.

Chadness5015d ago

Yet, too much gratuitous gore turns me off of anything. Dragon Age: Origins was cutting it close for me, this goes way overboard.

thevokillist5014d ago

The blood is way overboard, but still looks like a fun button-masher.

panasonic235015d ago

But the graphics in GOD OF WAR 3 will make Splatterhouse cry.

gtsentry5015d ago

@panasonic23....VIOLATIOONNNNN lol

Zachmo1825015d ago

But graphics doesn't make a game dude.

Unless of course your a graphics whore then what i said above wouldn't be valid towards you.

bjornbear5015d ago

its selling point is A VISUAL ASPECT

so if we are talking about a VISUAL ASPECT of the game, YES GRAPHICS MATTER.

WLPowell5015d ago

and remember Bjorn, GOW3's blood looks better. the blood effects from splatterhouse looks very last gen.

I really hate the remake-happy mindset of game devs nowadays, new ideas please.

Forbidden_Darkness5015d ago

Kratos aint blushing, thats just ricks blood splattered on his face...

hi25015d ago

really?so will it involve gutting a 5000 foot creature inside out with a sword revealing his intestines or what?

"Let Me Solo Her" Receives A Special Award From Namco Bandai For His 1000th Victory Against Malenia

Immersed Gamer writes: "Let Me Solo Her is a legendary Elden Ring player who mastered one of the most infamous bosses to help his fellow tarnished via co-op. And for his service, he received an award from Namco Bandai to commemorate his 1,000th victory. The reward in question is a real, and extremely dope, custom-made sword.

Malenia is regarded as the hardest boss in Elden Ring, and the relentless Tarnished has defended literally thousands of hosts against this malice. Let Me Solo Her apparently passed 2,000 Malenia kills a while back, but it’s hard to measure the exact count he is at now. Bandai Namco sent the gift his way when he was at around 1,000 kills. But due to the nature of the object, it got stuck in customs for a while!"

One of my favourite games.

I played all the games in the list, it is a good list but there were plenty of other overlooked gems. Several have been remastered now e.g. Catherine, Red Faction, Kingdoms of Amalur.

Some more you could add, Space Marine, Singularity, Killer is Dead, and a whole bunch of indies like Deathspank, Critter Crunch, The Last Guy.

Mobis-New-Nest661d ago

Haze is the greatest PlayStation 3 game to ever launch, it took first person shooting to a whole new level. Just shocked it never got a remake on PlayStation 5.

darthv72662d ago

Sad that the team behind Dante inferno did not get their chance to finish the story. They had two other games planned

P_Bomb662d ago

Did they? It’s been so long I’ve sadly forgotten most of the ending.

Venoxn4g662d ago

A decent list, I would add Black Knight Sword, Hard Corps: uprising

Relientk77662d ago

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Remember Me
Folklore
Tales of Graces f
3D Dot Game Heroes
The Darkness

Venoxn4g662d ago

..and Darkness 2 .. I personally loved it much more than first

662d ago
Limitedtimestruggle662d ago (Edited 662d ago )

Enslaved is a terrible port on the PS3 mind you, it's a great game though. But the PS3 version is....brutally ass. I wish I opted for the 360 version when I played trough it a few years back lol.

darthv72662d ago

You still can. It plays and looks great on xbo / series.

SonyStyled662d ago

There’s some gems in the list but as far as “should play” MAG would be in a “should’ve played” for sure

luckytrouble662d ago (Edited 662d ago )

Indeed. A bit hard to play a game that was entirely online with shutdown servers. A shame that it went from a game that could have been remembered for what it was, and instead is remembered as a poster child for why you should be wary of entirely online games.

MIDGETonSTILTS17662d ago (Edited 662d ago )

I enjoyed it while it lasted, thoroughly.

I had the most kills with my knife, I’d sneak ALL game, destroying AA batteries 🔪

Too bad the industry hadn’t figured out how yet to support online games long term with additional content and MTXs.

Noxxicity661d ago

Heck yes. MAG was one of the most satisfying fps I've ever played. Definitely miss it!

TTT is one of my all time favorite games, but I always found its soundtrack to be terrible. I'd mute the music and put my own on.
