Halo: Reach's Forge World is Xbox 360's LittleBigPlanet

In a recent interview, Red vs Blue creators Gus Sorola and Geoff Ramsey stated that the Forge World mode in the upcoming Halo: Reach will be so open that people can create "whatever community game they want". They went on to compare Forge World to LittleBigPlanet...

I'm not hating in any way, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Milk is for Babies5014d ago

Haha, I saw that video in the article. It just shows the tool and some neat stuff that they created, but it doesn't really show "any game I can think of". It looks awesome, but I want to see some of these inventive games and not just player-created maps and king of the hill warthogs.

AndrewRyan5014d ago

In the video the people really treat forge world like the second coming of Jesus. They seem to have a big ego. But seriously, forge world looks awesome, I bet in the DLC incoming they will have forge world additions with different environments and such. Like a desert.

-Alpha5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

Forge World is Bungie's answer to Halo 3 Forge, not LBP.

The concept of creating your own levels has been around longer than LBP and forge has been around in Halo 3-- a game that came before LBP.

The stuff I have seen in Halo 3's forge is amazing. Forge world is a natural jump from Halo 3 to Halo Reach and just what I expected in the Halo sequel.

pixelsword5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

Replace the words "Forge" and "Play. Create. Share." with "level editor" and you'll see that it's been around since the days of Lode Runner in the 80's; the early 80's at that.

AndrewRyan5014d ago

Bungie obviously wanted to upgrade the Halo 3 forge because some people thought it was tough to create with it. With the new physics options and object snapping a 5 year old could make a map.

ExplosionSauce5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

Forge is a nice map/level editing tool.
But LBP is new kind of beast taking it to a whole 'nother level! :)

/end of subject

webeblazing5014d ago

its funny alpha when i said that in the other article i got a bunch of disagrees. who cant see its still a map editor im not a down play cause they doing it better then most. the more features the better but lets not stack up stuff they did b4 saying its completely new

spacetattoo5013d ago

I just got, yea. either way that looks super awsome cool... another reason I will pre order this game. oh yea. love all the new stuff.

BuIIetproofish_5014d ago

Go play Halo 3 customs. See the crazy things people made with much more limited Halo 3 Forge. With the new objects and tools combined with the new gametypes and customization options we are going to see some very impressive things from Reach.

DigitalAnalog5014d ago

So far, the only thing I can think of that they have ahead is the machninima mode. Can they create stories within this "so-called" forge world in real-time without pre-recorded footage. Can they create a variety of their own A.I. enemies? Could they make their own calculator? What about levels, can they make large spinning cog wheels that you can latch unto? Can you make levers, switches and the like?

If so, then I shall retract my comment.

-End statement

darx5014d ago

Why would Halo need a big calculator?

-Lame

iNcRiMiNaTi5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

I wouldn't say it's like LBP. Forge world reminds me of Garry's Mod more than anything

morganfell5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

Building totally unique games and even using the tools to create new tools is a far cry from building game modes and maps.

Forge isn't LBP anymore than was Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

Noble Spartan5014d ago

Forge a small section of the behemoth....Halo Reach...makes you wonder is LPB really a full game? If Halo Reach has it in 3D in a part of its game .

TROLL EATER5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

also forge is just one aspect of halo reach. halo reach makes LBP + modnation look like downloable games.

gamerzBEreal175013d ago

Lol but i thought LBP was for kids? but f course now that halo has something simular its like the second comeing of jesus christ..

LittleBig Planet

Inspiration for the future of games :)

Milk is for Babies5014d ago

I can only imagine what other games could be like with this kind of customization. Can you imagine Gears? God of War? Killzone? Or something like Fallout 3? Ohhohohooooo.... I just jizzed...

NecrumSlavery5014d ago

Fallout has the G.E.C.K.

@pukeface
Forge is nothing like LBP though. We have had map editors since the days of yore. LBP is a whole new beast. But forge 2.0 should be really creative.

PtRoLLFacE5014d ago

sorry but forge came before lbp

Marquis_de_Sade5014d ago

Standard N4G, disagreeing with a true fact.

Forbidden_Darkness5014d ago

Yes, but LBP inspired them to make it more awesome :)

raztad5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

maps editors are nothing new.

EDIT: According to disagrees. Maps Editors are new and probably Forge in Halo 3 was the first ever.

"And then Forge make them do it too? "

You Halo fans always overrating anything Halo. I didnt even know Halo had a map editor and that feature was by any means "outstanding", "copy-worthy", considering map editors have been around for ages.

Any MM devel could have drawn inspiration from "Forge" but that is something nobody can tell for sure, while in this case Bungie guys are actually referencing LBP.

EvilBlackCat5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

"sorry but forge came before lbp"

well so far you have 8 disagrees

I mean you are right now like a messenger of truth getting stoned down by THE DUMB MOB.

Be strong because that quantity of stones are going to raise.

@ Forbidden_Darkness
"Yes, but LBP inspired them to make it more awesome :)"

So that mean that 1st Forge inspire them to create Little Big Planet?

@ raztad

"maps editors are nothing new"

True but nobody is saying the contrary.

thewhoopimen5014d ago

Forge is a map editor. That's not the same thing. If you want to argue that then Doom is the first little big planet lol.

The BS Police5014d ago

No, The Halo community inspired Bungie to make Forge better.

Noble Spartan5014d ago

damn you owned it right.! Forge owns LPB its 2d Forge is 3D

trane075014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

Lbp isn't simply just a map editor. Its an entire game based on creating tools, a storyline, and nearly everything else. not just maps. Theres no way you could compare the two on dates when they have almost nothing to do with each other.

There were games that had map editor WAY before forge did anyway, BUT the creators at Bungie chose to use Little Big Planet as an example.

baker_boi5014d ago

Inspired "Game Creation" software? Are yall serious?

We'll I guess Unreal Tournament and Quake helped inspire Forge and other games such as RPG Maker, Fighting Game Maker, Beat' Em Maker, Dark Cloud, Tony Hawk Pro Sakter and Every "Pick Your Own Adventure" Book.

Yall are fricken ridiculous.

That's right folks, A MAP EDITOR that came 20 years after other in-game map editors and games centered around content creation, single handedly created the genre it wasn't even the first at providing in its own limited scope.

That's right without Forge you wouldn't have have Unreal Tournament or Quake map editors! You wouldn't have RPG Maker, and its 3 cousin game creator softwares! Could you Imagine Dark Cloud or Tony Hawk pro Skater without FORGE!?

Where would we be without the genius of a Map Editor that came so late to the game it didn't matter!? Little Big Planet could nigh exist without Forge allowing you to place an absurd amount of exploding canisters on the map for no good reason!

EXPLODING CANISTERS! GENIUS!

Who Cares that you couldn't really change the properties of anything, YOU COULD PLACE THEM ON THE FIELD! That's game changing!

So the next time someone tells you, "Forge is just a map editor...". You tell them, No! Forge is a Prop Instrumentation Tool!

BuIIetproofish_5014d ago (Edited 5014d ago )

Forge came first, but I sure hope options and customization are the future of gaming. Three years of user feedback and user created content inspired Bungie to take it to the next level.

webeblazing5014d ago

it been in gaming. you must mean you want more features pc have. why cant yall just say its amazing and its pointin in the right direction.

Wizziokid5014d ago

Forge was out before LBP but the system wasn't very advanced.
the new forge world does look amazing, can't wait to see what people can do with it.

AndrewRyan5014d ago

Look how glitchy the Halo 3 forge was, and yet people still made amazing maps. With the tools Bungie is throwing at us in halo reach there is endless possibilities.

Redempteur5014d ago

Weird ..now LBP is the thing everyone try to copy .. this just show how big the first was for games as a whole

wwm0nkey5014d ago

Forge was in Halo before LPB, hell Forge was planed for Halo 2. Not saying LPB was bad but all of what they added in Forge is what was being requested by the Bungie community for years.

corneliuscrust5014d ago

Crapstar gaming sites and blogs will use for flame war fodder since they will always claim game "x" aped a featureset from game "y" just so they can get hits and pretend their site isnt a joke. :(

Redempteur5014d ago

just saying that eveyrone compare this to LBP , this "new" forge in no exception
forge was good maybe but LBP trully put the play creat share system for everyone .. Seriously ..don't tell me you didn't now editors existed for fps before Halo ?

Philaroni5014d ago

To an extent it is, I saw some very cool stuff with Halo 3's tools and just like with LBP2 and Halo Reach now that the tools are much better I expect to see much better content from the community. With that say it is true with just about any game that gives you an editor. Mod Nation is the same so was the old Far Cry if any of you can remember back then. Its almost like a console mod community if you will. I'm a huge fan of features like this.

Most Offensive Video Games That Would Never Cut It Today

Times are changing, and these games would have never been made in today's climate.

wealthofgeeks.com
thorstein38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.

The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.

In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.

MrBaskerville37d ago

Yeah, people wouldn't be constantly outraged if there weren't games that people found enraging. The whole SBI discourse shit wouldn't be a thing if all games were inoffensive. A game like Starfield can make a guy froth at his mouth, so there will always be room for a list like this.

0hMyGandhi36d ago

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there are massive caveats.
TV shows like Venture Bros, Ren and Stimpy, and Aqua Team wouldn't/couldn't be made today. Hell, Ren and Stimpy was a *children's* show, same thing with Rocko's Modern Life.

It's not for some arbitrary reason, either. It's branding and IP alignment. Companies are far more risk-averse than they were when I was kid in the 90's. Of course, you have companies coming out of the woodwork to hell spur on similar content, but remember: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and some incredibly provocative material.

And for movies? it's pretty obvious. American Pie/Wedding Crashers/Eurotrip among many other "raunch coms" have fallen out of style, and are absolutely outside what the modern day film industry is willing to stand by.
Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy Got Fingered, Rat Race, Harold and Kumar, and Van Wilder follow suit.

Remember: I am not explicitly talking about films put onto streamers. I am talking wide-releases in actual theaters. Same thing goes for games: Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, Manhunt, Six Days In Fallujah (with their original concept), Hatred, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'd be inclined to mention most tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Joint Ops as well, due to cultural sensitivity regarding *who* you are shooting and why.

And not all of it is bad (obviously). Tastes change, and perspectives change to fit the demographic.
I should add that I'm a lefty, living in L.A. Working in film.

thorstein36d ago

The Boys, Invincible, Jojo Rabbit, Deadpool, Gen V, Last of Us, Banshee... There are plenty of media being made today that people will claim "can't be made today".

Profchaos36d ago

Yeah but if you consider manhunt which was basically a snuff film could you seriously make that game with high than PS2 era graphics.

thorstein36d ago

The Outlast Trials just came out.

But the storyline of Manhunt was that you were executed. But then lived. And if you didn't do as you were told, you'd die. And the people you killed were not innocents.

It was all filmed by a psychopath.

As we speak GTA VI is being finished up for a release. You get to play a Bonnie and Clyde type of protagonist who run up against the law.

Bodycam looks so real.

People are making those games. Articles like this will always exist no matter how incorrect they are, no matter how many times they blame "them" for whatever it is "they" do to prevent "those" games from being made.

Number1TailzFan37d ago

The UK is the biggest junk country pandering to that nonsense as well, with laws against free speech and expression to match. It got so bad even Rowan Atkinson made a video on free speech about it.

Now the UK raises the age rating on harmless films like Mary Poppins, it's just a load of pansy weak ass nonsense.

MrDead37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

The right wing Tories have been in power in the UK for the 14 years you know the ones that are "anti-woke", blame them for your perceptions.

Killer2020UK37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Are these snowflakes in the room with us now?

This is more faux outrage designed to get hits. The consequences are unfortunately creating hysteria amongst those willing to buy into it and blame "them" or "the left" or "liberals" meanwhile the left are kicking off about genocide, actual real world abhorrent acts. Nobody is campaigning to censor this shit.

Huey_My_D_Long36d ago

Not too mention the fact that some of these game are controversial for you know, underage porn and encouraging rape.

So either the guy just came in to comment snowflakes without reading anything, or he is calling people snowflakes for having a problem with said titles. Crazy how much brain rot someone can have.

banger8837d ago

Dead Island: "The early PC version of the zombie game swapped the playable character Purna’s Gender Wars skill with a prototype name, which shouldn’t be mentioned directly. The skill name made fun of both Purna as a character and feminists."

"Feminist Whore" lmao

gold_drake37d ago

ill add one more to the list.
drakengard 1.

its ridiculous tho, especially since they'd still be able to find their place in alot of places in the world. except america of course ha. and maybe Australia.

ppl are so sensitive these days. ha. but it is what it is.

Barlos37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

They're not offensive.

And we need another Fat Princess. Fantastic little game!

Some people just have no sense of humour if this sort of thing offends them. They need to lighten up and stop taking themselves so seriously.

Deeeeznuuuts37d ago

Would love a new fat princess game 🤟

CantThinkOfAUsername37d ago

Games literally about sexual assault, mass genocide, bombing civilians, and school shooting. None of which is satirical.

isarai37d ago

Actually it's about fat princesses

Huey_My_D_Long36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Its crazy that people are fixated on Fat princess when clearly the list is going over controversies, and not all of them are equal. Like way worse examples but pretend the entire list is like that.

How'd fallout not make the list. Atleast over cyberpunk, tales , and halo. Fallout been around since what 96 98 and has 5 6 games into it. It's full of lore when you play it. I'd even add star ocean to a point.

robtion480d ago

Agree Fallout should be on there.

MadLad481d ago

And somehow Planescape Torment doesn't even make the list.

Crows90481d ago

Hollow knight surpasses these.

shinoff2183480d ago

In lore? I must be missing something

Crows90480d ago (Edited 480d ago )

Yes in lore. Easily missed... absolutely. Never played a game that had me loving the world and lore behind it as much as that one. Most of course wouldn't be able to experience it since it is a more difficult game.

DarXyde480d ago

I can't speak for all titles on this list, but by the time you get to Dark Souls III, the lore is a bloody tapestry of intricacy

Crows90480d ago

Played them all. Im not saying the games on the list dont have good lore...I just think hollow knight had more lore that is hidden but present and more easily explored and accessed. The souls games have tremendous lore but theyre mostly hidden and stay that way unless you look for it and research it. The lore is not very accessible.

DarXyde480d ago

Crows90,

I think that's a somewhat fair assessment. For me, the Souls games are less upfront about the lore, but it does invite your fascination through NPCs, items, locations, bosses, etc. There's this kind of natural progression where the picture becomes just clear enough by doing the essential tasks, but it really makes you want to explore every inch of the world.

TheColbertinator480d ago

Suikoden and Legend of Heroes also have massive lore setups.

agent13480d ago

narration is more important than lore i'd rather watch the story and characters in a more cinematic way instead of searching for notes and stuff that's why i love sony exclusive games like uncharted and gow and hate from software games

shinoff2183480d ago

The article was top ten lore in video games. I think they did a bad job picking games out. I know what you mean though. I just like a variety of games and genres.
