Are you saying that PS3 has shipped or sold 38.1million because this list states "sales".

SaberEdge5007d ago

Sold means sold to retailers, because retailers are Sony's customers. That doesn't tell how many were actually sold to individual gamers.

moparful995007d ago

No those numbers are sold through to customers. Sony and nintendo are the only companies that track that far due to it being very laborous. It is very possible to track sales to customers you just have to be able to get sales numbers from the actual stores and corporations that run them..

bioshock12215007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

Exactly there is a difference between shipped and sold. I love how now everyone is saying shipped equals sold now. But before when MS announced their numbers a lot of people where saying shipped does not equal sold. Just calling out the hypocrites in this website.

rockleex5007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

Its been documented that Sony and Nintendo switched their sales data to sold through to customers.

Microsoft chose to stick with shipped to retail.

If you choose to ignore the reality and live in your own little world where its impossible to "magically" track sold through to customers, then that's your own problem.

The truth of the matter is that tracking sold through to customers benefits both the retailer and the manufacturer. It helps the retailer keep accurate amounts of stock, and it also helps the manufacturer ship only as much as needed.

The more accurate you are in your business, the more money you can save. Simple.

That 360 lead will be gone soon if things continue like this. Well halozzzzzzzzzzzzz reachzzzzzzzz is coming out so we all know thats gonna bump up 360 sales in the west. GT5 will definitely help PS3 sales as well. For people actually following this crap, it should be interesting for ya.

JeromeRichfield5007d ago

We are not hypocrites and it does make a big difference if something is in sales or shipped. The more accurate your business the better I agree.

saimcheeda5007d ago

Vgchartz got it wrong real bad, 36.2 to 38.1 million!

SoapShoes5006d ago

Regardless of whether or not it is sold to consumers or sold to retailers, it's still a more reliable number to go with than VGChartz which can not accurately track European numbers.

It is AMAZING how official numbers are announced, and yet still sites try and publish stories with incorrect figures.

AzadFujishima5007d ago

You are providing a link to another story on n4g that has NPD data but the author of this article states opinions on WORLD WIDE numbers from Vgchartz. The site also has NPD data in the article but clearly states the comparisson between the two tracking companies and that he feels its good to get as many sources as possible.

Pedobear Rocks5007d ago

any of the big three PAY VGC for their data is they day that they data is worthwile and accurate. They PAY NPD.

VG is nothing but guesses revised after the fact when NPD/Media/Gfk come in.

rockleex5007d ago

Updated their data yet from the last official data.

Baltis5007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

Alright! These 38.1 million Ps3 sales are gonna make my Ps3's work so much better. I can't wait to boot them up now! (people and their sales)

@ those crazy gamers below me

Sales mean nothing. I love the Coleco Vision. It sold like $*** and it still had plenty of games I enjoyed. Sony will never be on top again. Not fully. They might have a region but gaming has changed and shifted. There is no place for dominate number 1 anymore.

Pedobear Rocks5007d ago

more console sales means more potential software sales for developers..thus more games made and more money spent on development.

I know you were just trying to be your usual nasty bitch self but you made my point for me so thanks.

silvacrest5007d ago

lets just all be greatfull he only has one bubble

raztad5007d ago

Baltis you are making an ass of yourself,

What do you expect to find in an article titled: "Lifetime World Wide hardware sales as of July on Paul Gale Network"? a late God of War 3 review + a preview of Crysis 2?

And Pedobear says the truth, at least partially, better sales = more publisher support, more games.

squallheart5007d ago

raztad you are correct sir better sale more software support and releases.

Do you know what i just saw, A commercial for the ps3 that featured madden nfl 11. I mean nfl commercial for ps3 doesnt the 360 usually get these ads. This is where better sales = more support.

GodHandDee5007d ago

is full of it
They don't even track most countries the ps3 ships to properly since they do not have any possible means to do so (keep in mind ps3 has expanded to many nations like the Philippines recently). So even when they have proper evidence that they are tracking behind big time they refuse to change it because they are not mature enough to accept it when there is a problem.
The credibility of their information is zero. A site run mainly by ninty and ms fanboys who argue back and forth to no end how Sony is doing something weird with their numbers so they can't be trusted (Yeah they actually said that)
Pathetic excuse for a website

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.
