Jim Hargreaves writes his review on Raven Software's Singularity, explaining how the game manages to avoid uniquity, yet still innovates:
"Singularity is a conventional, linear first person shooter which prods the player through a series of gunfights and set-pieces. Along the way players will spot small capsules which are hidden everywhere and contain E-99 tech. When enough tech has been gathered and the player has discovered the appropriate blueprints, they may visit one of the upgrade units scattered throughout the island and exchange E-99 for physical upgrades such as increases in health, damage resistance, clip capacity, and so on. Collecting and cashing in “Weapon tech” in a similar fashion allows players to modify their small arsenal of weaponry."
