Sidestepping the debate whether video games can be art, the author begins his series of articles talking about the 2008 game Bioshock for it's deeper imagery and themes.
Author John Catuira says in his article:
"Can video games evoke deeper thought in ways that we usually see with literature? In other words, have video games evolved beyond flashy lights and bleeps and bloops? As pointed out in the art debate, video games still suffer the stigma of being play things for children or the obsession of basement dwelling social misfits. I gave my co-worker friend a bit of a double 'holy sh1t!' at the bioshock reveal. I had already played thru it and I knew he was playing near the beginning. at the office, when we had to work on something together I kept dropping 'would u kindly', ex: would u kindly hand me that rate sheet, would u kindly take over this work item that's in your territory, etc. when he finally got to andrew ryan I received a text on my cell, something like 'holy sh1t well done with the would u kindly, u sneaky b@st@rd lol!!'
