As StarCraft 2 is just a few days away from release, Hellmode analyzes the recent trailer and StarCraft's story--and if the RTS genre helps or hinders it in presentation.
Great read! I'm even more hyped now...
i'll admit, i never knew the story nor cared for it
Wow SC's story was always very good. I am glad they are showing an up close view of what Kerrigan went through.
yeah, just went though SC1 for the 12th times this weekend and it will be nice to see that flashback in its full glory for SC2 With that said, she was a huge part of the First game and it felt like a big part of the story, even for a game that came out over 10 years ago. As for Narative in an RTS, Blizzard really are one of the pioneers of this and imho nailed it in Warcraft 3 and brought it to a whole new level. I would expect nothing less for SC2. So excited for tonight!
Starcraft 2's release gives us a lot to look forward to this coming week. It's been over a decade since the last installment and I can't wait to continue Raynor's story. Even though most people spent their time in the game's multiplayer mode, my fondest memories of the game are within its single player. Hackneyed as the presentation was, it was still memorable and I owe some small portion of my childhood to Blizzard's evocative story.
This was surprisingly well written.
Starcraft did have a story, but I was too busy micro-ing to really notice or care. It's nice to ahve it though.
Please make World of Starcraft next, Blizzard.
So I wonder how many people will be "sick" tomorrow? haha
Too bad this game is incomplete and split into 3 discs. No thanks.
Each of the game's campaigns, AFAIK, is a full fledged game. Each expansion is like the length of Warcraft 3 itself.
So every PC game that had an expansion was incomplete? They are just making the story very epic. I am a little worried that they will charge $60 for each title, but that wont stop me from buying.
They aren't charging 60 bucks for each game and they have said as much... Paraphrasing here but something to the effect of "the expansions will be priced according to their content" and in Blizz's history that's been around 40 dollars while full games were 60....I expect 140 dollar cost for all 3 titles when all is said and done and I don't' have an issue with that considering it's gonna be 90 missions
Considering the visuals of Starcraft 2's cinematics I'd be surprised if they didn't eventually make a full feature movie at some point.
WARNING: SC2's story is cheap, short, and half-assed. Very unimaginative and boring. The ending also depends on expansion packs. The whole story feels like Michael Bay produced it. No surprises, plot twists, or epic moments. Everyone could probably guess the whole story from the start! It's so obvious and simple. There are like 20 2-minute cutscenes! That's it. And the Xel'Naga aren't even significant here! Don't support this 12-year letdown.
EDIT: This is not trolling. I'm trying to save fans from utter disappointment. I am a SC fan, myself! I'm doing a favor. You'll see.
