Why is Master Chief in Halo: Reach?

Because it's a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved and what more obvious way to show that then to end the game leading up right to where Combat Evolved started then having the credits roll in and also having "easter eggs" or special appearances by him and his voice?

wait wasn't master chief on a special mission to capture a prophet at the time of the fall of reach i remember reading it in a book they wanted to capture a prophet so they can barter with the covenent so the chief was not on reach at the time of the fall

edit: i can see master chiefs mission being a dlc

He was at the "fall of Reach" actually. When planet got destroyed by Covenant he, Captain Keyes, Cortana and others escaped with the last human ship named "Pillar Of Autumn". Then they find themselves at Installation 04 which is the first Halo we ever saw. You can read his complete story from below.

Or maybe because Master chief was the main protagonist in the book fall of reach? We follow his conscription and training in the book.

edit: he may not be there all the time during the actual fall of reach, but he is a main part of the story of Reach, so it should not be suprising that he is somewhere in the game. And I agree Mrjunkins, DLC Master Chief mission would be interesting.

Bungie is going all out for this game, and I'm glad. This is going to be one hell of a swan song for them and the Halo franchise. It's sad though, Bungie won't be doing Halo anymore. I like to think that Halo: Reach would be the last Halo game and the series will go out on a high note, but then again I'm not an idiot and to think Microsoft would let Halo die with Bungie's departure is dumb. I'm not saying a 343 Studios Halo game would be bad, but, it certainly wouldn't be the same and it probably wouldn't have the heart behind it. 343 is gonna have a hard time convincing gamers to back their Halo game. All I can say is good luck.
