A Christmas without GTA IV

If you haven't heard yet, Grand Theft Auto IV, one of 2007's most anticipated titles has been delayed in a big way--Rockstar has revealed that the game will be shipping in the second quarter of 2008.

What does the GTA delay mean for the holiday season pack? Games.net handicap the console war in light of this major shakeup. Who wins and who loses for this delay?

I'd say playstation far more than xbox, mainly because xbox has a very strong line up this coming holiday with mass effect, halo, Bioshock. As well as the cheaper price will probably contribute to better sales.

Sure playstation has a good line up, I just think the xbox is better for now. Next year will be a different story...

P.S. before you say I'm a fanboy I have a PS3 and this is one of the games I was looking forward to most

...not the variety of games the PS3 has/will have. And before the people here say I am a PS3 fanboy, check out the image below. I love my X360 but i think in the long run the PS3 will have more and different games.

I totally agree with you FuRy. I own both systems, and for me, the PS3 has more diversity in games.

I love them both, but the 360, i only own for shooters. That's my personal taste. I think everyone who is into PC-gaming will enjoy the 360 more than i do.

If you own a PS2, then you will probably purchase a PS3, because of game franchises like Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid and so on. You won't find these type of games on the 360, that's for sure.

I had a Wii a few months ago, but i didn't see a reason to keep it (no games etc.), so it went to ebay. But i think I'll be sure to buy one again as soon games like Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Brothers etc. are released. That are must-have-titles for me.

GTA games are crap anyway, only reason i bought San andreas iz coz my friends bought it. all i did was go around killing opeople.

other than that i only did 3 misssions

I think GTAIV wil not sell as well as San anddreas or other, this friend fried thing wont be there anymore

Ya with Madden, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk and NHL 08 about to come out, that is my perfect storm. All before the real big hitters come out. GT5, SOCOM, MGS4 and forgive me Killzone 2 (I must be one of the few that liked the first one) I won't notice GTA being gone at all. I'd rather they take the time to make it great anyway then rush it in time for xmas.

I wouldn't be suprised if it were deleyed untill next October, after all it is basically the most anticipated game ever perhaps? It seems like it will be a huge game to make, so there gonna not only need time, but there gonna want to take there time and make it right.

They should earn most out of this. As for 360 it will increase it sales but i believe the ps3 will sell more than the 360. Mostly because of it´s huge fanbase, gamewise i think this fall´s lineup are about equal for ps3 and 360. But if u look at the sales of ps3 without any real bigtime games it has sold pretty deacent.

its pretty disappointing that its delayed, but i think it is for the best. I would rather wait a bit longer knowing that the game will come out and be extremely impressive with no bugs or framerate issues than for it to be a big disappointment. I think that both 360 and PS3 owners have more than enough games coming out this year that look amazing. Lair, Uncharted, Unreal Tournament 3, Heavenley Sword on the PS3 side, and Bioshock, Halo 3 etc on the 360, as well as this multiplatform releases such as Assassins Creed and the likes of Stranglehold. Great year for gamers irrespective of the GTA delay. Cosmo i agree with you, this years sales it will be difficult for ps3 to close in on the 360, i feel in 2008 however with the likes of MGS4, Killzone 2, just with these two titles alone should allow for ps3 to close the gap as the 360 i havent heard of many major announcements regarding 2008 titles apart from Alan Wake which looks awesome. Sorry about the rant.

I agree, i`m sure the game will still have some bugs though, but i really hope they can have a better framerate than in their previous games.

I honestly think this is better for PS3 than 360, as the PS3 is more likely to have a better year in 2008, than this. With the probability of another price drop for the PS3 before that time, and that most people i talk to want to play it on PS3 except that the current price is putting them off (it seems like they don`t acknowledge the game will be out on 360 as well) Although i`m not going to read to much into what my friends say, i think they do make a fair resumption of the average consumer.

Anyways, this year should be a great one, and let`s all hope that the GTA4-delay will turn out for the best.

...they think Playstation. I know the GTA games have come out on Xbox but they attracted people to the PS2 because it hit that platform first and thus people associated GTA with the PlayStation.

It won't be different this time either. This exclusive content stuff isn't going to work for MS now either as the PS3 will have a much larger fanbase next year and so the DLC won't be as much of a pull for the 360 as it would have been had it been released this year.

Next year is going to be very interesting...
