Why Activision Wants To Charge MP Fees

Millions of players are hooked to Call Of Duty’s online play and publisher, Activision, wants to take advantage of it. It seems that releasing 2 expansion packs for $15 isn’t enough for Activision.

Because they're greedy S.O.B's.

ExplosionSauce5455d ago

If they're going to charge for online MP, then they better get their asses in gear for an excellent single player. As I will personally be turned off from buying their games if they charge for MP and the single player isn't long enough and awesome enough.

I'm not into the whole paying-to-play thing, but for those who still pay for XBL would have to pay even more for COD.

Lightsaber5455d ago

Would MS even allow them to do this on the 360?

evrfighter5455d ago

Imo (I'm a little tinfoil hat-ish) they're currently making in the process of letting it go viral. They setup the rumor and see what the reactions are.

Considering Douchebag Bowling has already come out and said "no we won't do subscriptions". I think that idea has been put on the back burner. It was met with massive "F*ck you Activision".

Mind you I guarantee you they hold meetings everyday on how best to implement the subscription method for CoD. Kotick wants it bad. As it stands there would be too much fallout if they went ahead and did it. They won't risk anything that might upset their shareholders.

This article is like....for real.... ???

Hmmmm.....GREED tells you something... -____-

Unbelievable @_@

pippoppow5455d ago

Why not? XBL does.
You can't play the multi-player portion of a game unless you pay for XBL. Same thing, right? Why should MS be the only one to tax players to play a multi-player portion of a game?

Now 360 gamers are going to complain. Maybe Pubs should add apps and features to there online game to justify the additional costs. Works for MS.

Now maybe you see what supporting XBL's multi-player tax could lead to and what many like myself saw what could possibly happen.

Skizelli5455d ago (Edited 5455d ago )

That only makes sense if you generalize things, but in reality you're getting much more than just the ability to play games online with a Gold account (and don't get me wrong, I think that in itself is lame when we're using our own bandwidth to host games). XBL is a service, whereas Activision makes games with overpriced DLC as it is. Paying to play a single game online may work for MMOs, but most MMOs are free to play these days, relying on the sale of the game itself and an online store. Microsoft didn't start a trend, it's just Activision being greedy. Again. Furthermore, $50 a year really isn't all that much. That's roughly $4.10/mo. I can think of worse things to spend that on. Why must people like you turn things into a fanboy debate?

blumatt5455d ago (Edited 5455d ago )

I WILL NOT pay for it. I'm done with Call of Duty for many years to come. Until they do something different than the same crap every year, I'm done with it. You can't keep putting out basically the same game, same graphics, and same multiplayer year after year, with ZERO innovation and expect people to keep buying it. Sure, they are still buying it, but I will not. Call of Duty needs destructible environments and vehicles in their multiplayer to compete with Medal of Honor and Battlefield BC2.

AAACE55455d ago (Edited 5455d ago )

Uhh, there used to be millions. Now probably a couple hundred thousand and declining daily!

I want to say they should have just made a multiplayer game in the first place and just cancelled the story! I hate the way DLC is hurting games as well, because before the first map pack came out, there was an average of 300,000 playing in the multiplayer alone. But after the map pack, the numbers continue to drop, because they are hoping people buy the map packs to continue to play with their friends. It's kinda hard to buy them when on average there are only 2-3 thousand people playing with them at any time.

@Solar, if it's so horrible, why do people contine to buy it and play it? There must be something there that attracts people!

Everyone won't like what you like! For example, I like playing MW 2, you may like playing BFBC 2. You may not respect my game, while I think your game is worse! But that's my opinion and I will not try to change your mind because that is what you like!

mantisimo5455d ago

....another cod if they start to charge for online MP. Fact.

Spenok5455d ago

I will not play another CoD online if they start to charge for it. Fact. Just because they charge for online doesnt mean the single player will be complete and utter crap. If they charge for online, i will play it offline only and be done with it.

If you could make money off idiots then power to you.

solar5455d ago

Millions are subjected to horrible game play. And they like it. Thats a bigger unjustice to gaming......

pippoppow5455d ago (Edited 5455d ago )

Will not be just Activision.

Ea has started a $10 fee for used games to allow multi-player access.

There will be others who will find different ways to get more money from gamers unjustly.

console gaming is like a gold mind because console gamers have shown to support just about anything so far.

@Dr...I know. It's just a way to get more money from us. Maybe if the game has dedicated servers there may be justification due to upkeep and maintenance of the servers but most games are p2p.The bottom line is now those in the industry will try and charge us more for things that were previously free. Watch out.

Drjft5455d ago

IF YOU BUY THE GAME PRE-OWNED.

mantisimo5455d ago

Which I actually think is pretty fair. If you buy it preowned but paying for online MP especially without dedicated servers is not going to hoover up any of my cash.

ZombieAutopsy5455d ago

I can see them going the EA way and making it so you either buy it new or have to pay for an online pass which in my opinion is fair too an extent but the thing that pisses me off about them trying to charge for MP is that COD is all P2P an they'd basically be charging us for an infrastructure and a crappy one at that.

GaMe015455d ago

For every one of us that says we won't theres at least 20 people out there that will pay for a subscription. Look at how many people bought the DLC packs and activision knows this.

More hyped for CoD 2026.
IW's at helm. Supposedly doing an engine evolution similar to MW'19. Evident by the current-gen only rumors.

Deathtracker41d ago

Me too. I'd also love to see the DMZ 2.0 rumors come true that year.

Goodguy0139d ago

Which were the worst black ops campaigns lol. And Bo4 had none...

Father__Merrin39d ago
