For Sony, Home Is A “Game Platform”

When Sony launched home back in 2007, Sony intended to build it with a social networking theme. Essentially, PS3 owners who play games online would come to the space and become friends, hence connecting on PSN to play games together.

for me home is boring, it would have been cool if they delivered everything that was promised

Karooo5029d ago

its much better now. its awesome much better than that gameroom turd on live

table5029d ago

stop using the beta as an excuse, it has been in beta for about 2 years. It's just being used as a fallback now.

Megaton5029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

Eh... beta in name only. It's been in beta for like 3 years if you count the closed beta (the real beta). They only keep that tag on there so some people will excuse the suck.

I've spent a good chunk of time in there, in all regions, starting in the closed beta. There will always be problems because it's built on a lousy foundation. It's like an MMO that wasn't built on an MMO's engine.

Vojkan5029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

BETA excuse is ridiculous at this point lol. i am so interested in Home that i havent even tried it. Boring and for casuals. Only crazy people defend it. I hate HOME for getting money over 8 days and getaway 3 you know stuff we hardcore gamers care about, but lets pretend Home is amazing since we love to suck sony c..k

OSU_Gamer5029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

You guys are that die-hard, that you will try and talk up HOME?

Seriously?

Is it somehow a different Home than I have tried to play once every few months to see if it wasn't still a waste of time. (Let's wait in line for a virtual game!!!)

Gameroom isn't anything to write home about, but no one is pretending it is more than it is.

raztad5029d ago

"Boring and for casuals. Only crazy people defend it. I hate HOME for getting money over 8 days and getaway 3"

You should have learned by now casuals OWN the industry. Home is not a MMO, is a place for social interaction, if you dont lke is totally fine. I would say that Home is probably more profitable than some high profile games out there, so much it has a constant stream of new spaces.

Insomnia_845029d ago

The Midway room is taking A LOT of my time lately, you can get a bunch of items with $0.99 the best room in Home so far imo.

IdleLeeSiuLung5029d ago

LOL Beta... I think the concept is flawed!

“So we’re focusing on Home as a game platform; really, what better way to connect the users than through games? You can get all these great social interactions and now, it’s really tough to walk into Home without making a few friends.

It’s that ability to connect with the PlayStation community in the context of games; this is our long-term vision: the idea that Home is a universal games hub.”

I agree, social interactions are important unless we are using meaningless means like Home. Home as a universal game hub is a terrible idea....

Move on, play the games, ignore Home!!!

TotalPS3Fanboy5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

And while at the same time, letting social gamer socialize and play games. That's all that matter.

Hardcore 360 gamers can say whatever they want, but Sony ain't going to listen to 360 gamers because it's not 360 gamers who are making money for Sony.

You do know it will never leave Beta right? Beta in these terms is constantly updating, which is what Home does periodically like most Betas. So it's hardly an excuse. It's meant to remain in Beta.

table5029d ago

then why are people implying that the reason it isn't great is because it is in beta. That sounds a lot like an excuse to me. I think we can both agree that beta is just a buzzword in these terms. It doesn't matter whether it's in or out it's still underwhelming. I assume this is directed at me when you said it's not an excuse. I still think there is a market for home and sony should stick at it.

TotalPS3Fanboy5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

is because unlike a video game, Home will never be final. Home is always evolving and updating.

Unlike games, once it's release, the game is final. The developers stops and go make a new game.

Home is not like that. Home is an ongoing process. It's being upgraded all the time. Home is suppose to be like that, and not like a game that get release and abandon.

mrv3215029d ago

That's strange I don't remember caring what you say because you're Jaded, ignorant and a waste of how ever much space you use on this site.

For disclaimer purposes, that does not reflect the opinions of the larger N4G community ( it probably does though ) and I did not wish to be mean it is a conclusion of a opinion and not in anyway meant to be mean.

Microsoft alternative is so much better? Mii's that hasn't been done before... wait a minute it has.

ABizzel15029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

I will defend Home. Home is a great concept, but I don't think it was ready for this gen and it's going to be in beta until the end of the PS3 or the launch of the PS4. Home will be a part of the PS4, because it makes Sony money, and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if Home became the PS4's OS with the XMB's successor running in the background. And I would be fine with that but Sony has a lot of work to do before gamers would be willing to accept that. They need to get a party system that works in games and Home. They need to streamline everthing in Home loading for more than a few seconds has to go. They need to add voice chat back. They need to add new spaces like a sports room with Wii Sports like games for your avatar, or spaces where you can travel to other countries version of Home a shop there since people already do it. Games like Afrika should be Home games, along with a bunch of PSN and classic games. All of these things are just a start, but this is the direction Home needs to be heading to make it a success with the casual and hardcore that Sony wanted it to be.

I went on Home one or twice, deleted it after.

Spenok5028d ago

Same. Though i went back to it reciently and there was a LOT more there. Some pretty cool spots to check out. However when i was done, i was done.

HarryMonogenis5029d ago

I've played Home before. And I defiantly see its potential, but as for now I believe it's lacking quite a bit.

HarryMonogenis5029d ago

That yes, I know it's still in a Beta. As I reflect on my comment, I truly believe that Playstation Home has achieved quite a lot. There are quite a lot of options and activities that one can access.

It's just that I believe Home can do so much more.

Redlight5029d ago

It is better than it was no doubt, but Home is still pretty dire.

The concept of having to wait in a virtual queue to play a virtual game in a virtual world is just so...stupid.

Great view from my apartment though.

Vojkan5029d ago

nah you are crazy that super cool (i hope ppl note sarc)

yippiechicken5029d ago

"The concept of having to wait in a virtual queue to play a virtual game in a virtual world is just so...stupid."

Yeah, I remember the first time I went in Home to try it out and I tried to play bowling. When I saw that I had to "wait in line", I said "To hell with this" and went back to playing real games. I was amazed that I couldn't go in and play a virtual game with my virtual "me" any time I wanted.

So, I Finally Played Home

I recently published an article about beating my Steam backlog by getting organised and the first game I’ve completed with this new approach is Home.

I chose Home not because of its production values or reviews, but because, well, it’s short. I needed a game to start my new approach on the right foot and read that Home takes less than two hours to beat.

Whatever my reasons for finally installing Home, I found it to be an enjoyable yet flawed title.
