Tarsier Studios become first-party SCE developer

Tarsier Studios has announced it has become a first-party SCE developer.

The Swedish company, the developer of Ragdoll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic, announced the deal on its website, confirming an unannounced project in the process.

“Tarsier Studios has signed an exclusive first party deal with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Together with SCEE, Tarsier Studios will bring their high quality visuals and entertainment talent to the ever growing SCEE game portfolio in the form of a yet to be announced project.”

The studio also announced it’s currently working on DLC for LittleBigPlanet 2.

They work on DLC content for LBP (and also for LBP2 now) which will be great.

Maybe they can also work on DLC for Heavy Rain as Quantic Dream may leave the DLC packs they had planned: so why not give to another dev (and 1st party to boot) to help?

I also noticed on their portfolio that they have a FPS tech demo (Desert Diner) and an unreleased title (The City of Metronome): hopefully these two see releases either on the PS3 or PSP.

Dragun6195453d ago

Or Sony could be working with them to remaster one of their PS2 games.

I notice Sony selected independent developers for porting their PS2 games.
Bluepoint Games for God of War Collection
Sanzaru Games for The Sly Collection

I see this as a way for Sony to test young independent developers and build a relationship for first or second party support if Sony sees potential in the developer.

gaffyh5453d ago

I think they are too small to be working on a full game yet, they are wanting to hire like 40 people, so I'd expect a big game in the years to come. LBP2 content is good enough for now, at least that way it means that LBP2 comes out earlier.

ChozenWoan5453d ago

Sony: 23
MS: 5

No really, how many studios does each one have now?

BaSeBaLlKiD7215453d ago

Pretty sure MS only has 2 studios. I could be wrong though.

343 Industries

Lionhead Studios

Rare

Turn 10 Studios

343 Industries will be making the new Halo games, which most likely won't be as good as Bungie's

Lionhead Studio's spokesman and game designer is a consistent liar who overhypes his games, makes false promises and let's down their fans.

Rare are focussing on Kinect casual stuff now and won't be making good games like they used to.

Turn 10 make great Forza games, but they are a bunch of immature fanboys who bag on Polyphony Digital and Sony whenever they get the chance.

you have to question microsofts policy and way of thinking! there is nothing better imo than a strong line-up of first party studios.

sonys first-party studio stable is incredible.

HolyOrangeCows5452d ago (Edited 5452d ago )

Good job, Sony, you reeled in another good one!

Ragdoll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic was awesome.
Bring on a sequel with online play and stuff.

Spenok5452d ago

Agreed, more awesomeness.

Awesome

What all games have Tarsier worked on?

sinncross5453d ago

The PS3 version of Rag Doll Kung Fu, DLC for LBP and upcoming DLC for LBP 2.

They had another game in development back in 2005 entitled The City of Metronome and worked on some FPS tech demo.

Beyond that, nothing from what I can gather.

Faztkiller5453d ago (Edited 5453d ago )

Ok Thanks Wonder what LBP DLC anyway I'm sure what ever their doing it must be good if sony felt the need to pick them up.

Galvanise_5453d ago

Smaller scale purchase this time. This makes me think Sony has seen something really good from them.

Ultraplayerxd5453d ago

Awesome!

next up Sucker Punch :D

Faztkiller5453d ago

Would be a great move for Sony SP is such a great developer but I think SP are like Insomniac and want to stay Independent. Sucker Punch with first party support would = even better games

klapkip5453d ago (Edited 5453d ago )

Please Sony, let there be family space for Avalanche Studios (Just Cause), Quantic Dream, Sucker Punch and that studio that made Limbo for Xbox (Playdead Games). Frozenbyte was welcome too (Trine), Housemarque (Stadust HD & Dead Nation), Hello Games (Joe Danger). What about the guys at Oddworld Inhabitants so they stick to the Playstation roots and bring games like Oddworld 1 & 2.

BlackIceJoe5453d ago

I really hope The City of Metronome will get released now that Tarsier is first party. I think that game looks like it would be a very fun adventure game. So I hope The City of Metronome will come out.

Reanimal – interview with Oliver Merlov (CEO, Tarsier Studios)

An interview with Oliver Merlov (CEO, Tarsier Studios) where I get to ask him about Reanimal, and whether he envisages the game to become its own long-standing franchise. I also get to ask him as to what effect being acquired by Embracer Group has had on the studio, and whether he thinks the studio would be open to working on its own version of an existing fairy tale. All this and so much more in what is (ultimately) quite an extensive interview… Enjoy!

DarXyde192d ago

"While that sounds despicable, Barrett was accused of crossing the line between professional and personal behavior. In the course of its journalistic investigation of the Me Too scandal, Bloomberg interviewed eight people, including multiple women who reported Barrett, as well as other Bungie employees who were either involved in the investigation or spoke to the women involved."

Yeah, sounds like you did it, dawg.

jznrpg192d ago

Reminds me of Sony's other awesome PS promotion in London, such as OXO tower and London underground roundels. All with shapes replaced with PlayStation's iconic 4 controller shapes.

Awesome promotion, Sony!
