Namco Bandai CEO: “Selling Full Games is No Good”

GameZone: "There’s something brewing in the water over at Namco Bandai that’s got to be worrisome for gamers everywhere. After the head of sales, Oliver Comte, announced that $60.00 for a game is too much for a consumer at the Level Up Conference in Spain, it now seems that it all stems from the thoughts of their current CEO Shukuo Ishikawa."

BRING TALES OF HEARTS TO AMERICA!!!! Theres even Hommies waiting for that TOV to drop on PS3 out here! Whats wrong with U guys!

Baka-akaB3066d ago (Edited 3066d ago )

you can pretty much add half of the tales games ...
Not rebirth , no tales of destiny 2 (the vastly superior sequel on ps2 , not tales of eternia on psx renamed as tod 2) , probably no tales of graces ... , no innocence either nor even phantasia's remake on psp .

Nothing new with a namco refusing to release the tales that could actually appeal to its western fans

At least Bamco localized Muscle March.

"My answer is for us as publishers is to actually sell unfinished games - and to offer the consumer multiple micro-payments to buy elements of the full experience.”

It almost feels like as if my girlfriend suddenly wants to see other people right at the time I'm falling in Luv with her... Ouch!

Kamikaze1353066d ago

This is exactly why I refuse to get into the Tales series; because I know if I start enjoying them, I'll want to play more of them, but these douches refuse to release most of the games in the franchise outside of Japan so I'll be missing out on a lot.

HolyOrangeCows3066d ago

First CodeDisasters...I mean, Code"masters" CEO, and now Namco's CEO.

I want to buy a full game. Not buy half a game and pay $10-20 for each little additional part.

Game-ur3067d ago

Namco already did this at least twice with .Hack games on the ps2 the first was 4 episodes and the second hade 3, did it prove successful for them? You may also count Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner (2 games).

This can be a good thing if we get well made and paced games, Lost is an example of an epic story that is impossible to do in a movie.

But developers can get over ambitious like with Xenosaga, which was originally 7 parts but was cut to three episodes in three years, what made the 2 .Hack series and Digital Devil Saga work is that the episodes were released within a year.

Another problem is that a publisher may stop work on a project if it doesn't meet expectations and we end up with uncompleted games, just look at all the TV series that were canceled.

ZombieNinjaPanda3066d ago

They did that with the .hack games? I loved those games! Though, I did notice they were very short.

ForeAllEternity3066d ago

Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner was criticized for splitting into 2 games on quite a few discussion boards. It felt incomplete after finishing the first one. I love the series but wouldn't say that was a good move.

I can just see them trying to scam gamers and then wondering why it didn't work.

All these stupid ass CEOs get it in their head that they things that have not worked in the past will work now. How do these people get to the top of their companies?

Go ahead and try it guys, and loss even more money.

dizzleK3067d ago

f*ck you. just like codemasters, namco is another easily ignored publisher. we'd probably end up paying over $100 each for "complete" games. i hope any publisher that tries this is driven out of the industry. stop producing such absolute shit and more people would be willing to buy your stuff.

pardon my anger but this industry has become effing disgusting. they're more concerned with gimmicks and nickel&diming than actually producing games. at this point i'm genuinely glad that sales keep going down. keep pirating and keep buying used. lets collapse this rotten industry and start over again.

scofios3066d ago (Edited 3066d ago )

I agree 100% with you , unfortunately millions of morons shows us the reality with the sales of MW2: dlc map pack and 2 of them are even old maps , shame on those people .

jerethdagryphon3066d ago

if we keep buying this dlc as gamers thats what wewill end up with

i dont buy dlc unless i have a damn good reason

when i swipe my debit card i expect a full story in what i buy i dont pay for half a film or half a meal or a book why should games be differnt this boils down to one word GREED.

activision and ea are the worst for it, if others follow gaming will cease to be an option for most people,

are they going to want to wait how many week or months for another 4 level episode at 20$ no they paid there fee give them the damn game

sigh i can see i wont be gaming much longer as things go
