Dragon Quest Vs. Final Fantasy: A Friendly Comparison

Originally being rivals, until Square and Enix joined forces, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games both have a significant amount of numerals attached to them. GameZone compares the two to see which one comes on top.

...Dragon Quest is great... but after you’ve played a few, there isn’t much incentive to play the rest. I’ve played all main DQ and FF games, and at the very least, FF keeps it consistently fresh... even if you don’t like the changes.

Overall the quality of DQ is higher but some individual FFs are better than individual DQs.

I think the gameplay is better on DQ but the story is better on FF. Well certain ones lol. I didn't care much for the DQ8 story.

I gotta say I've tried dragon quest a while ago, and it sure was a nice break from the final fantasy style. I like them both :)

The thing I liked most about the Dragon Warrior games is that there was more sense of adventure and exploring. Its the little things in Dragon Warrior games that you dont see any more even in these newer rpg's that have more people and more money tied up in them.

I prefer DQ. I had a really hard time getting into any of the FF games, but DQ dragged me right in. I think the characters (and certainly the humor) appeals to me more. And slimes really help.

9 isn't that great.the gameplays good and there's lots of content but the story's pretty lacking. Personally I think DQ 5 is the best one.

I've never even played a DQ game, and don't know much about the series. I didn't realize it was comparable to FF. Sadly, I'll probably never find time to play one.

Dragon Quest is fairly better than Final Fantasy games.
Why? IMO both are somewhat overrated, but DQ games give you that sense of exploration and adventure you don't see much in JRPGs anymore. They aren't complex nor need deep storylines, they're just old school-like RPGs and that's what I love about them.
