Sony: The PS3 Shortage Is Over

Rejoice, Sony fans! The company has noted that the PlayStation 3 shortage in the U.S. is no more. The console moved 305k units in June, up from 165k units in June of 2009, according to NPD.

"PS3 inventory issues have been resolved and June 2010 marks the 11th consecutive month of year on year growth for the platform," the company said in a statement.

Sony noted that there are nearly 13 million PS3 units in living rooms across the U.S. and that hardware unit sales are up 85 percent since June 2009 and 42 percent since January 2010.

About damn time!

One more month and they get a full year over growth. It's unfortunate that they industry is still in some bad shape as a whole, though.

Sony's timming is the weirdest. They fix their "console supply" just when Microsoft released their Slim. The thing with shortages is that once you keep up with demand, it all goes back to normal whereas a console redesign with enough stock is the smartest way to go.

IMO Sony has lost their last chance to get close to Xbox 360 Worldwide. they're sitting at around 5 million behind and it seems it's the closest they will ever get considering the Xbox 360 is poised to keep going high with the Slim, Halo, Fable and the release of Kinect.

"& im glad the ***** on this site & other sites have failed to stop the ps3"- Haha, you really think anyone cares what a group of fanboys say about another console?

360 is done for.

jwatt3016d ago

The only problem is now the demand has shifted a little in favor of the 360 slim but we will see how things turn out!

raztad3016d ago

actually it is totally expected a bump in sales, new console + $150 arcade are good incentives.

The demand for PS3 is strong, and it shows that even w no important release it shifted 305k units.

scofios3016d ago

@360Defender
No it needed the same retards who keep re buying them  after they got rrod.

nickjkl3016d ago (Edited 3016d ago )

its strange how everytime they release a new sku their hardware sales numbers jump but then they release xbox live numbers and its basically the same numbers they showed last year

now what does that tell us

ThanatosDMC3016d ago

Yup, there's a lot of PS3s stacked up in frys but people are buying them. I just hate the 360 fanboy employees hanging around GT5P saying how GT5 would look terrible like GT5P.

rockleex3016d ago

Much better than Forza 3.

But we've all seen the videos and screenshots of GT5 and know its better than Prologue by miles!

ThanatosDMC3016d ago

Try arguing that with dumbasses in real life... it's worst than the internet.

There are no conclusive world wide figures. Europe's a tricky region.

RememberThe3573016d ago

And we all know how far off VGChartz can be.

oohWii3016d ago

Based on amazon, there seems to be a bit of a shortage on the 360S.

When I went to best buy, all I could find was the old arcade models. The elites new and old were all sold out.

MorganX3016d ago (Edited 3016d ago )

Or stock of old models returned??? But whilst buying PSN cards last night, PS3 Slims were stacked all over, only 2 XBox units in whole store.

memots3016d ago (Edited 3016d ago )

When you see stuff like this( http://vancouver.en.craigsl... This guys probably has a working one as well . Its really hard to know how many console Ms actually did sell.

I have a friend who has 3 xbox360 , No Joke. A Banned one then he went out another one . Modded it then bought a Slim for online play.

I am knocking on wood that my original 360 pro(20gig) won't hit the bucket.

SOAD3016d ago (Edited 3016d ago )

White PS3, I really want one but they never ship in the States.

Btw, this is off-topic but I'm unable to connect to Uncharted 2's multiplayer. Yesterday I tried and I waited for have an hour for the game to sync live data but it never did. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Rather than giving me a disagree, can people tell me how to resolve the issue?

labaronx3016d ago

want to get a white one but i know they are gonna be impossible to import from japan early on, and will likely never see the US, hopefully my 60gb can last until mid august....

SPARDA_4263016d ago

is it your first time playing in like a month. if it is then it is just downloading the new skins and stuff. it hsppened to me lastt week

Unicron3016d ago (Edited 3016d ago )

SPARDA is right. The "loading" bar is actually downloading alot of new content, especially if you haven't played in a while. Sucks, but if you leave it on it'll get there. They have been doing a ton of playlist/skin mods lately man.

You need to drop your router firewall. Inside your router there should be an option to allow one address to be set to DMZ (demilitarized zone). This will drop the firewall completely on whichever address you choose. So, if the PS3 has an address of xxx.xxx.x. 103 then you enter that address in the router and it will open all ports for that system.

Once you do that go to the network settings and make sure your you select "manual" so that the address you enter stays at 103 and doesn't change. You will also need to find out your DNS addresses so you can enter them. When you are done with that just make sure UnPn is disabled.

If this is too much for you then visit portforward.com. It will show you how to portforward instead (like DMZ but portforwarding just drops certain ports but not all.) Hope this helps as I had the same problem.
