Sega to stop support for Aliens vs Predator on consoles

Segas Community Manager Clumsyorchid shocked the AvP player base today with a forum post:

"I've just received a mail this AM regarding patches for the console versions of AVP and I regret to inform everyone that these have sadly been scrapped.

I had previously made a claim that these were coming and at the time, this was very much on the table. For the console community, I apologize, as I know there are many features and updates that you'd like to see. I'll keep fighting internally for this to happen, but until I hear otherwise, there will not be a console patch for either Xbox or PS3."

I have it for PC too. The singleplayer is awesome as well, don't skip out on it just because of no console MP support. It's a great game in my opinion and you should definitely buy it.

When it was released I was hoping it would score great (it didn't).

Then I tried the MP PC demo thinking it was probably better than the reviews claimed (it wasn't).

I'm still hoping something sweet comes out of Colonial Marines, but I'm not as optimistic as I used to be...

I don't get it. It's not like they're exploring foreign territory here. Think about it: guns, aliens, space marines. There's tons of great games with these concepts implemented the right way (and also a lot that don't). So there's no excuse why somebody can't churn out a proper current gen Aliens game.

I think the singleplayer was cool, and multiplayer as well. But I can see what would annoy people and where they could make improvements (i.e. graphics on the consoles, especially the poor PS3 port...lazy Rebellion)

I mean, it's all been the same thing since the first AVP came out:

- Aliens kill everything else

- Marines kill everything else

- Predators kill everything else

all on a bunch of small, multi-level maps to make the action appear more intense.

They should have switched it up a little. Maybe I'm wrong, but the MP didn't leave a good impression on me in terms or refreshing game-play.

It very quickly dropped out of the top sellers list on Steam (i.e within a week), and it has been a flop as far as PC player base goes, just check out the steam player stats.

Let this be a lesson to those who buy games primarily for the multiplayer...NO games are ever worth buying for the multiplayer when SEGA, EA and many others shut down servers/ stop releasing patches the second they have got your money...+ the money for the 2 DLC packs you foolishly bought. I bought this game for the single players and it was disappointing...it looked good, you could play as an alien/predator which was cool. Buy it had no god damn sould and I was glad when I finished it

they know where their community is, by adding Dedicated Servers for the PC version they know it will last longer than p2p matchmaking on consoles which doesn't promote community gaming

Same thing happened to Lord of the Rings conquest, came out in 09 and they shut down the multiplayer servers.. another reason why I dislike EA.

They totally abandon there products. I know the game isn't hugely popular online, but there is still a following and it was a nice game to have a change of pace from other online shooters. This is pretty unacceptable, I mean we have companies updating games like Gears 2 and Forza 3 and that's with sequels coming early next year. So why cant we get updates for a game released this year?

Well that because of MatchMaking, its does not work as it requires servers and Peer2Peer to work its stupid

Same with Halo 3 and Resistance 2
The server are ran by Microsoft and Sony for the MatchMaking but the players connecting are on Peer2Peer

Aliens Vs Predators on the PC has dedicated servers, which can be made by Sega or anybody

Also the first Aliens Vs Predators games was PC exclusives and was supported for many years after release so it comes to no surprise they have cut support for consoles

BTW did you realise they released 2 different DEMOs for the Consoles
They released the first DEMO but was buggy so rather than patching it they release another DEMO without warning

On the PC they patched the Steam DEMO instantly
