Ubi Q1 figures – Conviction sells 1.9 million, Driver delayed into 2011

VG247: Ubisoft’s just announced that Splinter Cell: Conviction has sold just under 2 million units, selling 1.9 million units since its launch back in April.

wow 2 mill idk i thought it will sell way less

NYC_Gamer3021d ago (Edited 3021d ago )

i guess its the end of the old school gameplay format of splinter cell

captain-obvious3021d ago

2 millions on PC and 360
i think its just ok

morganfell3021d ago

2 million on PC and 360 is not enough to recomp development costs due to massive delays. Ubisoft shareholders are going to be howkling for some sort of action to turn a profit.

Funky Town_TX3021d ago

how much money did they spend on dev?

Blaze9293021d ago

he doesn't know - just talking random bull as usual.

eah, that guy cracks me up sometimes.

I'm not going to deny that this is a good amount of sales for a good game. However, it is important to note that in the investor call and in the press release (available on Ubi's IR site), they specifically mention that the game has "sold in" 1.9 million.

What does "sell in" mean? It means shipped i.e. sold to the retailer, not consumer.

Still good, but it is clear that a lot of these will be selling at discounted rates.

SOAD3021d ago

The publisher makes all the money it's going to make on the game when it ships it to a retailer. The retailer pays the publisher's share of the game when it purchases it. And then whatever money the retailer makes from selling it to a consumer belongs to the retailer.

I've said this before. The publisher or manufacturer of a product doesn't give a damn if the game sells to a consumer or not. As long as the retailer has anticipated demand for a game and paid for 1.9 million units, Ubisoft has made money off those 1.9 million units.

DaTruth3021d ago (Edited 3021d ago )

I'm pretty sure you're wrong on that. I work for a huge beverage company and if the retailer can't sell the product, the company has to buy back the product from the retailer.

And I'm pretty sure I've read numerous comments from posters who work for Gamestop, etc. say that the stores get refunds or incentives when they are unable to sell games or the MSRP goes down, that is how they are able to drop the price without taking loses.

No guarantees or links here, just an alternate perspective.

Great game deserved to sell 10 million copies. Great single player, great co-op and great multi-player. There are games offering far less at the same price. One of my favorite games not only this year but this gen.

The demo is still up on XBL and is one of the most downloaded along with Crackdown. I'm a little surprised the PS3 version has not been announced yet. Maybe it will be a holiday release on PS3.

Here's the demo walk through Ubi released. This is the assault version, I'll post the stealth version if I can find it.

Independent_Charles3021d ago

it was a good game but not long enough

outrageous3021d ago (Edited 3021d ago )

Compare this to the previous demo walk through. Ubi-soft was trying to show that the game is playable anyway you want. Attack in an assault or stealth manner, making the replay value very high.

Imagine 8+ hours of this, ( plus co-op and multi-player ) which is how long it took me on realistic mode. My only gripe was the u-play feature that ubi-soft implemented with the game. It requires you the join u-play to unlock features. Not big on black mail.

YouAndSpaghetti3021d ago

SP was too short, i beat it in 5 hours which is actually long compared to my buddy who only took 3 hours to play through. Now co-op was fun but repetitive, plain and unthoughtful, but that was on the PC, one of the more horrible ports ever. Poor framerates no matter how high end your rig is. Ps3 would do fine without this game, its not like it stands out from the vast amount of games released these past 2 years.

BABY-JEDI3021d ago

With the previous sales within the series? Just wondering as this will inevitably play a part in the decision if it will appear on the PS3 ????
Does any big brainy person know?

jetlian3020d ago

fairly high most only average 1-2 million with like the original at 3-3.5 million

Titanz3021d ago

But not the kind of numbers I was expecting.

Hopefully, a sequel is in the works.

BeaArthur3021d ago

I was actually expecting it to sell less. Not being on the PS3 definitely hurt sales and already having it reach almost 2 million only a few months after its release is pretty impressive.

trounbyfire3021d ago

wonder if the "SC for PS3" would sell better or if the franchise is losing steam

just a question

T9X693021d ago (Edited 3021d ago )

Doubt it, every other Splinter Cell game has sold more on Xbox/Xbox 360 than PS2/PS3. SC fans are in the same boat as SOCOM fans, SC fans want Chaos Theory 2 and SOCOM fans want SOCOM 2 HD. Both strong fanbases that are stuck on the old games, including myself. SOCOM 2 FTW

EDIT: @Folezicle - I don't think any PS3 exclusive sold 5 million, MGS4 is close with around 4.8 but other than that most PS3 exclusives sell around 1.5 million with the exception of games like God Of War, Uncharted and LBP.

Folezicle3021d ago

Nor does every PS3 exclusive

ClownBelt3021d ago (Edited 3021d ago )

Oh every PS3 owners know that. But every 360 owner believes that every one of their games sells over 5 million.

It's a hyperbole. *roll eyes*

Independent_Charles3021d ago (Edited 3021d ago )

no i didnt think so. ill agree 100% that some jackass has said that but that doesnt mean every 360 fan thinks this. #

edit: yeah ok ;)

NYC_Gamer3021d ago

i wouldnt buy this game even if ubi released it for ps3...they ruined the old format

Independent_Charles3021d ago

honestly, it is worth a rent cause it is differant and it has a good but slightly short campaign, but youll miss out of you dont play it. my honest opinion

OSU_Gamer3021d ago

A different format doesn't mean its a bad game, its just different. If nothing ever changed and evolved, I would hate to imagine how shitty this world would be.

nickjkl3021d ago
