It is a fact that licensed Microsoft accessories for the Xbox 360 are unreasonably expensive. One of these products though, the 16GB flash drive, just received a price drop.

On topic, well, Microsoft changes prices of stuff when they fail to force users to adopt it. These last months, the gold subscription is officially on sale. I wonder what that mean? No so much gold users after all?

I am so sad, microsoft does not change their point of view about the online and proprietary overpriced devices... I have a 360 since 2007, dozens of games i want to try online but i refuse to pay a tax to use my internet connection twice. But obviously, they are weak people that can not prevent themselves to follow their "friends" and buy expensive stuff from Microsoft, including online tax, and be proud of it.
I played 4 months free on the live (with coupons), and for me, there was no reason to pay for that since 2007, and there is even less, now, in 2010.

any flash drive (or External HDD for that matter) works. MS and SanDisk are just trying to rip people off. It takes less than a minute for the xbox to configure a flash drive (at least it did for my 2 gig one)

I never said the MS drive wasn't expensive. I was simply pointing out the double standard (as was DizzleK). So many people here are determined to hate on anything MS does that they forget that their favorite "awesome" console manufacturer has been doing, and still does, the same thing.

There's ALWAYS some companies that charge more for a product compared to others. But you won't care because u can find a cheaper alternative.

Look at most pre-built computer companies. They charge an arm and a leg for certain add-ons (ie. Hard Drives) that you can get for exponentially cheaper any where else.

Because its MS, and because this site is filled with fanboys, its turned into a huge deal.

The fact remains, that it is optional and no one is forcing you to buy anything. When it comes down to it, MS is hurting itself, NOT you.

Edit: I totally agree that MS is not the most consumer friendly company at times, but does this matter that much. Have you seen the first 7 comments. Come on. this isn't even PS3 news.

Why would you pay 60 dollars for 16 gigs? That seems kind of expensive. Then again I haven't bought a flash in a while so I really don't know how expensive that is compared to others. I would just have assume that it is quite a bit more in comparison to others because it is a Microsoft accessory. This is kind of off topic. I've been here since 06 and I can remember clear as day just how bad it was. There were mabye 3 or 4 articles a week that had anything positive to say about the ps3 the rest were fud articles that was a mix of how awesome the 360 was and how fail the ps3 was. Then you factor in how predominant the 360 fanboys were and it was almost unbearable. But we ps3 fans stood tough and all of our predictions have come to pass. Sony listened and evolved the ps3 as a platform into the awesome gaming machine it is today. God its been a long fight and one I do not wish to repeat. Here's hoping ps4 takes advantage of the lessons from this generation.

It's sad it's just the nature of business, if people will buy these products at that price why not charge them for it, thats exactly what Nintendo stuffed up the Wii, they could of made that a lot more expensive and still get plenty of sales, whilst on the other hand the first PS3 was too high not many went out and got it.. You can use ANY usb storage device of any size, but it will only allocate up to 16gb of storage for 360. You're better off sticking with starndard 16gb usb drive, as you can easily find one on sale for around $25 dollars, look around and compare prices, I got my 16gb crucial stick for $18 + tax and free shipping a while back.

There is something completely stupid about the update that let users use flash/usb drives: The thing is limited to 16gb. Whatever the size of your flash drive, you are limited to 16gb AND the console uses 512mb more to "something"... it like the waste of the space (7gb) for retro-compatibility on the main hard drive, what is it for, seriously?

It's not a MS product it a Sandisk product licensed by MS. Sandisk set the price.

I also like how people compare retail prices to discounted products. Newegg discounts there products, if you want to compare correctly get the retail price of both products.

This item is over priced. But if anyone has a problem with the cost then they should take issue with Sandisk. Microsoft licensed the XBOX 360 name to that company and Sandisk is responsible for the high price tag of these USB drives.

On a side note: There are plenty of XBOX 360 bargains available!

I remember how Sony did with the PS2 and those crazy accessories. 8 mb memory cards for $30. The first party ones are still that price. 4 controller add on ports and $100 HDD. The good thing about this is most people on N4G THAT HAVE A 360 HAVE A HDD. The ones complaining don't even have a 360. I guess if Sony can push $50 first party HDMI cables then M$ can rip people off with optional USB flash drives. We all know that M$ has a ton of money so how dare that want to make more.
