Resident Evil 3DS vs. Resident Evil 5 for PS3 and Xbox 360 a Screenshot Comparison

When Nintendo debuted the Nintendo 3DS at E3 2010, one thing was made clear, and that was the machine could render some impressive visuals. With Resident Evil Revelations for 3DS showcasing some of the best visuals for the handheld at E3, that title alone made many into believers. Capcom also revealed some amazing graphical handheld achievements with Resident Evil and Super Street Fighter IV. The Nintendo 3DS version may be slightly different in graphical style, but the lighting and visuals certainly come close and rival the graphics of the HD-home console versions, Resident Evil 5 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

It is truely awesome what the Nitnendo 3DS can do. Sure PS3 and 360 look a bit better, but for a handheld device. Pure awesomeness.

wwm0nkey3022d ago

agreed, can't wait to get my hands on the 3DS again next year when it launches!

Miroque3022d ago

And the graphics are not just plain awesome, but also in 3D. So you actually need double way more graphic power that a lot of people think here. It is double the power of a normal device. Sure it is not quite PS3 or Xbox 360. But it is hell of a lot of work for a handheld device, without a cooling system and so forth.

DaTruth3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

3DS isn't far behind PS3/360... on 20" SD screens!

I have nothing against 3DS, but it would just be stupid to put 720p and 30,000 poly character models on a 3-4" screen.

Commander_TK3022d ago

even show how the 3DS works?

miggza3022d ago

@ Sony Soldiers. for a fanboy you can't even troll properly.

on topic: Imagine that power. up sized to a normal home console. Should be hella nice.

theKiller3022d ago

does the 3DS have a completely new hardware or it is just like DS but with the 3D is added on?

i missed this information.

Marquis_de_Sade3021d ago

theKiller, do you see any current generation DS games looking half as good as this here? The answer to your question is fairly easy to work out.

Sorano3021d ago

Geez Fanboys on all sides! What happens if I say: XBox 360 has wussy graphics, PS3 has wussy games and Nintendo 3DS is not even out yet?!

beardpapa3021d ago

you should look up how the 3D in the 3DS works because you obviously don't know about the 3d display technology nintendo is using for the portable.

T9X693022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

I'll believe it when I see gameplay footage.

EDIT: Ummmm that is not gameplay. You or anyone else can say its "in-game" footage, but until I see real gameplay of someone actually playing the game moving around, that is nothing but a hype trailer.

Gago3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

thats a trailer/cutscene

for all we know that could be rendered using different hardware to be played as a video for 3DS cutscenes

HolyOrangeCows3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

I too will wait for gameplay before making any assumptions about RE on the 3DS.

"In-game" isn't necessarily "real time"

Danja3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

that footage is pre rendered stuff ... sure the game will look good but comparing this to PS3/360 games is just dumb and setting people up to be disappointed how about it gets compared to the Wii ?? sounds better huh

Downtown boogey3022d ago

Mind putting a link where there'd be the gameplay footage if that's what you talking about? None in that one.

Anyone who thinks this is real 3DS gameplay should look at Kid Icarus E3 footage and contemplate just a FREAKING SECOND!

weazel3022d ago

nooope. That's a pre-rendered trailer. T9 asked for gameplay. Annndddd?

Kain813022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

here is gamplay footage from KID ICARUS for the 3ds

EDIT: So this video dont show KID ICARUS???
why iam getting disagrees...

nickjkl3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

kain im suprised you havent realized thats not entirely gameplay

Arnon3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

That is most certainly gameplay. The very very beginning might not be, but everything else is in-game. It is by far the most powerful gaming handheld on the market.

portablegaming3022d ago

The only thing i said is that there is footage out there. I did not mention if it was rendred, in-game or not.

ChickeyCantor3022d ago

it is realtime.
You can clearly see the the hard edges on the shadow.
The detailes on some textures and polygon count make it obvious.

It is real time.

fatstarr3022d ago

And thus the next gen of x= y or x>y articles hit N4G.
3DS is impressive but we all know its not that great graphically.
But I will still be blown away when i am playing it less than 8months from now.

corneliuscrust3021d ago

During E3 it was stated that the RESIDENT EVIL 3Ds DEMO was REALTIME. Players could look around a bit.

Capcom reconfirms Resident Evil: Revelations 3DS trailer running in real-time
June 22, 2010 by RawmeatCowboy Filed Under: 3DS

“Following last week’s announcement that Capcom currently has two titles, Resident Evil: Revelations and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (tentative title), in development for the Nintendo 3DS the first trailer for Resident Evil: Revelations has just been released and is now available for download from our press extranet. Featuring appearances from Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine the trailer is rendered in real time using the game engine.” - Capcom email can people STOP spreading FUD when they have no clue what they're talking about?

iceman28853021d ago

The article says the TRAILER was rendered in real time using the game engine.

A trailer rendered in real time is not the same thing as gameplay footage. Whenever I see the graphics look that clean when they go to the actual behind the back view with someone controlling the character like the gameplay from RE4 and RE5, then I'll believe it.

I've seen many games run cinematic scenes using the game engine where the cinematic scenes don't follow the same camera as the gameplay and are polished up more than the actual gameplay.

So when people are skeptical, that is what they mean, we want to see actual gameplay, not a 'trailer' that was 'rendered in real time.'

beardpapa3021d ago

@Kain: except Kid Icarus looks like crap compared to the "ooo so pretty" screenshots of RE we're talking about here.

@Cornelius: so a cutscene rendered in real time? Because those screenshots don't show anything that look anywhere close to actual 'gameplay', more like just cutscene cinematics.

Something makes me think those 15 disagrees came from psp fanboys.
but really your telling the truth.

cjflora3022d ago

This is essentially a "new" DS console, so I don't know why PSP fans would be upset about this. It would be like saying the new Xbox console has better graphics than the PS3. Yea, if it's next gen it will. We'll see how things are when the PSP2 comes out. I don't know how they'll compare, but I've heard rumors that the PSP2 will be using a 4 core version of the cell processor, so I'm guessing it'll be a beast of its own.

tda-danny3021d ago (Edited 3021d ago )

The in-graphics on the 3DS do not look better than games on the current PSP.

Kid Icarus: Uprising

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

The 3DS has just brought Nintendo's handhelds to a closer graphical level when being compared to the PSP. The real tech is the 3D, which is awesome!

Natsu X FairyTail3022d ago

Man , Nintendo 3DS is gonna be FIRE. Cant wait to get my hands on that device. haters be damned.

hakis863022d ago

I don't believe this until I see it in my hands.
Sorry, no offence, but looks a bit like a cut-scene.

corneliuscrust3021d ago

Who have themselves stated officially that this is a realtime render?

“Following last week’s announcement that Capcom currently has two titles, Resident Evil: Revelations and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (tentative title), in development for the Nintendo 3DS the first trailer for Resident Evil: Revelations has just been released and is now available for download from our press extranet. Featuring appearances from Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine the trailer is rendered in real time using the game engine.”

Biggest3021d ago

Rendered with the game engine does not mean gameplay, buddy. I know you're passionate about this. You'll enjoy the 3DS. That is not gameplay footage.

N4g_null3022d ago

Target Shooting: Nintendo’s Amazing Augmented Reality 3DS Demo was not reported at all yet it worked really good.

I mean if they do some thing like this with pokemon I may have to buy my first pokemen game LOL.

Any way the shader tech is real. It's like the psps with better shaders really. Not sure of the max polygon count yet but most demo where there to show off nintendo has real shaders now.

Now when these games come out and they look like their demos what are you guys going to say then?

Spenok3022d ago

Seriously, as a handheld the 3DS is just a beast.

n4gno3022d ago

3DS = PSP graphics...6 years after.

Sorano3021d ago

This is first Gen 3DS and it is better than PSP. Imagine 3DS in 6 years, it could really exceed PS3 and Xbox 360 in portable thinking.

klado3022d ago

Gotta love the CGI vs Ingame graphics comparison, Street fighter was more of a contender cus it showed a slight of what the game looks like but CGI?

Whatever system can produce CGI in 3DS quality, come on, are we that blind? 3DS won't outperform psp by much, but still 3DS is a winner for me, can't wait for pokemon.

Boody-Bandit3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

This is not in game graphics of RE for the 3DS.
It's the cut scenes.

Honor_in_Armor3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

Oops wrong reply...

3DS seems to pack a punch.

vhero3022d ago

I seriously doubt that is in game 3DS graphics. No doubt trailer or something screenshots.

Nihilism3022d ago

People here really don't know what they are talking about. From the PC version of RE5 the "cut scenes" are real time rendered and the visuals and performance of them are reflected in your game settings, I don't see how the console version would not be real time when the PC version is, if anything they would all be the same.

The cut scenes of RE5 are real time rendered and are the same as the gameplay visuals.

DigitalAnalog3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

The handheld SURPASSES the console (Wii)?

I wonder if the PSP2 would follow suit?

-End statement

ds is just now getting to psp levels

klado3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

Yeah, did you see MGS for 3DS, character model were solid but the environment...don't expect much guys, remember the power of this system is centralized in deliver experience called 3D, it wasn't made for graphics horse power, sry but say 3DS > 360 stupid nintendo asshle.. let alone the ps3...ARE YOU A FCKTARD, indeed you are.

rexus123453021d ago

you know the ps3/xbox360 images used in th comparisons are down-scaled to a handheld resolution right?
call me a graphics whore but even comparing to the down-scaled version, 3DS shows it's lacking in polygon count (too many smooth surfaces)

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 3021d ago
Schneestern3022d ago

really looks great..did not expect that

franktheprankreturns3022d ago

Well it is a givin' fact that the Nintendo 3DS will have the best 3D graphics a handheld ever had till now.

pedrami913022d ago

Was it ever confirmed to be a CGI trailer or an actual gameplay ?

wwm0nkey3022d ago

Its all in game, they let you move around the camera in the E3 stage demo.

kanetheking3022d ago

the camera around.that is next-gen there. /s

wwm0nkey3022d ago (Edited 3022d ago )

How am I getting disagrees for something that I actually experienced in person at E3?

also Kanetheking, the camera thing was to prove it was in-game, nothing more.

SpoonyRedMage3022d ago

and when Capcom released the trailer they said it was ingame.

Plus if you look at the trailer or screenshots you can tell it doesn't quite match up. Look at when Chris points the gun at Jill for instance, he has stubby, blocky fingers. Still impressive but nothing unbelievable.

Fefe3022d ago

Can't wait for 3DS release!
