Nintendo, Sega controllers and carts find a new home in the RetroN 3 console

Engadget: knows the hazards that can befall retro gaming enthusiasts -- janky third party consoles and KIRFy handhelds not the least among them -- so it's nice to see someone put some real thought in their hardware. Available in retro-futurist red or sober, serious black, the RetroN 3 gaming system is compatible with your Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and SNES cartridges.

Looks okay but it screams MadCatz.

Really wish I had money for a RetroN 5. Also really wish I never bought an FC3 Plus, the controllers it came with are garbage. At least Hyperkin is smart and allows use of the original controllers.

Agent_hitman3275d ago

lol this indie-made emulation system is a lot more powerful than Wii U by just looking at it's clockspeed..

Nio-Nai3275d ago

The 2.4Ghz is talking about the controllers wireless frequency.

If you read into it, you would notice that the controllers only have a range of 15 feet, and since they are using that sort of wireless tech the battery life will be terrible.

Awesome, better then the sega genesis classic at Walgreens. This comes with NES, SNES, and genesis at the right price I'll try it. Still want to get the ouya for the videos and emulators.

Weekend Refresh: MacGyver Edition

In this episode GamerzUnite discuss the upcoming Macgyver game, why that ET landfill might not ever be exhumed, a first-person Jet Set Radio inspired game, teens having kidney failure at LAN parties after drinking 4 liters of redbull, and some company called Facebook bought this Oculus Drift thing... whazzat? Rift? Sounds like the name of a bad 80's hair band.

So can most high end mobile phones.

Galaxy S2 will output 1080i to your TV with a miniusb-hdmi adaptor, has emulators for pretty much every system up to the N64 and you can even use a PS3 pad via bluetooth.

zeal0us4075d ago

This niche product is aim at the hardcore retro gamers who don't care for emulators.

caseh4075d ago

Most 'hardcore retro gamers' as you put it don't actually want to use their old carts.

I have a mint copy of FF3 boxed up for example, if I were to open the box every time i've played that over the years the box would be ruined.

If people want to restict their access of retro gaming to what they own then by all means, buy this kit. Why you would insist on doing that is beyond me.

SkullBlade1694075d ago (Edited 4075d ago )

Yeah but mobile phones suck ass for gaming.

I honestly would rather not touch them for gaming. I use the actual consoles + games for my retro gaming usually unless its a super rare game that's expensive.

Is this website design for the hard of seeing?

TuxedoMoon4075d ago

That thing is pretty cool. If it's cheap and it works well, I might pick it up.
