In addition to the standard story mode, there's a boss rush mode called Survival Tower that you can play alone or with a friend, but the boss fights--already often frustrating in the main game--aren't worth revisiting outside the context of the story. Ultimately, the simple action and, particularly, the punishingly poor use of save points make this more a test of patience than an enjoyable escapade.
Dragon Ball devotees with strong wills may be willing to put up with the frustrations to eke some fun from the game, thanks to its energetic storytelling, but most adventure seekers should look elsewhere for their next epic quest.
411mania: Ahh yes, Dragon Ball. The anime series that all of my friends seemed to love and adore and I could never get behind. There was just too much stalling and long close ups of faces for me, but clearly the story told had to be somewhat interesting, right? Based off what I’ve read, yeah, it seems the stories are pretty interesting, but I just can’t get into the shows.
NWR: The story of the Dragon Ball franchise exists as a blurry childhood memory in my mind. Images of children with giant hair, glowing people screaming in the sky, and an evil pink blob fighting a green man are about the only scenes I can clearly recall. My experiences with Dragon Ball and gaming are slightly more robust, as for quite some time I enjoyed the Budokai series of fighting games...
