As you could probably tell from the screenshots alone, Soul of Darkness bears an uncanny likeness to the Castlevania DS games. With that out of the way, the detailed 2D graphics, soundtrack, gameplay challenge, weapon upgrades, shape-shifting abilities and even some DSi camera integration makes for fun action-platforming. The initial playthrough on Normal difficulty won't take more than 5 hours, but the story and game is a treat, even if you are fooled by the Castlevania trickery.
8bitfix writes: Being primarily a developer for Mobile Gaming alike, Gameloft has proved itself to demonstrate a great library of download-able titles for the "On the Go" Gamers. Recently porting some of their high rated games to the DSi market, including Soul of Darkness, has been given praise for a detailed atmosphere and game play.
Eurogamer writes: "Remakes, rip-offs, subtle twists. There really is no secret recipe to making a great download game, as this week's ragbag collective amply proves.
On the surface, none of the five titles put under the microscope this week look like anything special, and you'd be dead right to shrug your shoulders at the prospect of a couple of puzzle titles, a diving game, a Castlevania clone and a board game remake. Yeah, big deal."
