NowGamer: The inFamous 2 developers have explained why they believe building their own engine is preferable to using one by a third-party
i love you
If Sucker Punch gets anywhere close to top level PS3 graphics for an open world game with what looks to be partially destructible environments then color me impressed.
This Game will be a Total Blast...
I love when devs use proprietary engines. It presents the opportunity to push the envelope rather than be limited by third-party architecture. I mean, great games are great games, but I've think that when you actually create something from the VERY ground up, more of your soul is in it, and hence, you are more likely to produce something great.
Can't think of any - presumably because it enables Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica etc to squeeze the best out of the PS3. But could the same be done with Unreal/CryEngine/Source given enough time/modification?
infamous 1 ;p
infamous 1 engine was sucker punch engine. @skyward probably but the amount of work to change modify the engine isn't worth the trouble
I think it was one of EA's devs that came up with MLAA for the PS3. I don't know what happened but it seems Sony might have bought it off them. Either way, it would be nice to see third party devs using it too.
You are talking about Pandemic, DF made the claim they were using MLAA but it was a mistake, Pandemics technique was based on edge detection and blurring. MLAA was implemented for the first time, in a PS3 game, by Sony Santa Monica.
It is part of Sony's reference engine, the PhyrEngine, AFAIK. There they refer to it in some texture filtering examples. So it is basically available to everybody. Pandemic might have been the first to use it. How you use it is also up to the developer, I would think. How I understand it, whatever the 1st party dev teams or research teams do goes into the PhyrEngine eventually and with it into the SDK which is then made available to 3rd parties as well.
So that's how it is. Thanks for correcting me.
like you said if they (devs) have the time they could, i mean it's not impossible to polish a turd it just takes time and technique.
the ps3 is starting to be tested to the limit, gamers are the winners
I simply cannot wait for Infamous2. Infamous1 was a total joy ride. Sucker Punch are definitely among gods. The Sony first party dev GODS!!!
i'm gonna cry no joke lol.
Its All Thanks To The Uncharted And Santa Monica Guys Without Them How They Able To Squeeze Out The Best Of The Ps3.Now Other Dev Like Sunker Punch,Guiralla Are Learning And Taken Hints From Them. EDIT:Guirallla Are Using MLAA on KZ3.MLAA The One Tat Been Use In God Of War 3 Tat Santa Monica Invented It.
'Guiralla'? Tell us more about this def no one knows...
does not suit you.
LOL, the irony
sony has some of the most hard working first&second party devs
you gotta love sucker punch.
is certainly on the rise after their success with Infamous and the high expectations of Infamous 2. Throw a helping of Sly Cooper into the mix and it seems all roads lead to becoming yet another Sony 1st party development outfit . Its where I expected Insomniac to be but it seems they had other plans.
This even applies to real life. The best made suit are always tailor-made! -End statement
From what I've seen, Infamous 2 has some of the best graphics this gen despite being an open world game.
i just started reading the gameinformer issue with infamous 2 on the cover. so far game wise everything they want to do and the direction of the story and character development and the games they want to be like, emotionally that is, sound awesome. but somewhere along the lines, maybe due to greed wanting more sales, infamous at the time of the article has sold 2 million for a brand new ip, they seem to want to streamline the character to make him not lovable but likeable? its the only place i'm concerned so far.. to me forget likable, the original cole was believable. but hey, i'm just some dumb gamer what do i know.
Sony needs to add these guys to their arsenal. Sony, hurry up and buy Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog
