If Sucker Punch gets anywhere close to top level PS3 graphics for an open world game with what looks to be partially destructible environments then color me impressed.

I love when devs use proprietary engines. It presents the opportunity to push the envelope rather than be limited by third-party architecture. I mean, great games are great games, but I've think that when you actually create something from the VERY ground up, more of your soul is in it, and hence, you are more likely to produce something great.

Can't think of any - presumably because it enables Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica etc to squeeze the best out of the PS3. But could the same be done with Unreal/CryEngine/Source given enough time/modification?

infamous 1 engine was sucker punch engine.

probably but the amount of work to change modify the engine isn't worth the trouble

I think it was one of EA's devs that came up with MLAA for the PS3. I don't know what happened but it seems Sony might have bought it off them. Either way, it would be nice to see third party devs using it too.

You are talking about Pandemic, DF made the claim they were using MLAA but it was a mistake, Pandemics technique was based on edge detection and blurring. MLAA was implemented for the first time, in a PS3 game, by Sony Santa Monica.

It is part of Sony's reference engine, the PhyrEngine, AFAIK. There they refer to it in some texture filtering examples. So it is basically available to everybody. Pandemic might have been the first to use it. How you use it is also up to the developer, I would think.

How I understand it, whatever the 1st party dev teams or research teams do goes into the PhyrEngine eventually and with it into the SDK which is then made available to 3rd parties as well.

I simply cannot wait for Infamous2. Infamous1 was a total joy ride. Sucker Punch are definitely among gods. The Sony first party dev GODS!!!
