That's a great offer. Much higher than I would have expected.

LtSkittles5475d ago (Edited 5475d ago )

It sucks though there's no PS3 for $200 on their website.

Ilikegames765475d ago

trade in my PS2 compatible PS3 even if it the trade in price is $500. Still using it now with an upgraded 320 GB HDD.

madpuppy5474d ago (Edited 5474d ago )

concerning the 360, when I got my third repaired 360 back from Texas I
brought it to gamestop and traded the 360 and every d@mn accessory I had including some games that weren't worth goozexing. And I used the credit to get a PS3 250 slim.

barom5474d ago

I actually sold my 60gb. I really miss the "expensive" and luxurious feel of it but the fan was starting to turn on faster. So I bought myself a 250gb PS3 slim and so far am extremely surprised at how quiet it is. I'm very satisfied. Anyone who has a non-PS2-BC-fat-PS3, I would recommend turning it in. The value of those are unlikely to go up unless you still retain OtherOS and they'll finally hack it, which I think could happen but not until another year or two (or so implied the Digital Foundry people).

himdeel5474d ago

...and I called my local store yesterday and they've got no new PS3 slims or phat in stock. They got a single refurbished one. I believe GS are trying to improve their stock with this move. I'm wanting to upgrade my phat to a slim for the lower power consumption.

xboxlj5474d ago

You could actually hear your fan? I have the same 60GB ps3 and I have not once heard any noise. I admit that I don't play it nearly as much as my 360, but I have not even heard it during long gaming session. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for my 360. It sounds like a jet engine from the moment I press the power button.

nveenio5474d ago

The reason they offer so much is because they're WORTH so much. And so few people trade them in. There's a game store here that gives $250 for them. You could trade in an old one and buy a new one for just $50. That's cheaper than the extended warranty plans. It's crazy.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr35474d ago

Whats the point? The PS3 is the thing to get so why would you trade it in? Unless you were buying the new 360 or you desperately need a Wii.

Luzce5474d ago (Edited 5474d ago )

You are upgrading a phatty for the slim? Assuming you have the 60GB, I would keep that instead. Why worry about the power consumption when it's plugged into the wall? Not like it's running off a battery.

@ Wraith: Trade in the PS3 for the new 360? LOL.

barom5474d ago (Edited 5474d ago )

I've actually read up on this and there are two types of fans in the 60gb. One is 15-blade and the other is 19-blade. The very early 60gbs were all 19-blade and are all SUPER quiet (maybe even more quiet than the PS3 slim).

However, they began cutting down costs or wutnot (or different manufacturers) and began interchanging between 19-blades and 15-blades. The 15-blades are actually fairly loud. You can definitively hear it and it has 3-4 levels of speed, the faster the louder. At level 1 you can barely hear it (and it actually ran like this during the winter). At level 2 you get fat PS2 level noise and at third you it sounds like a regular fan you would have (think table type fan) but still nowhere near as bad as a 360. At level 4 that's when I get worried and I think its doing the fan test. My PS3 were almost skipping level 1 and would turn to level 3 within 5 minutes of play time.

Anyway to summarize, 15-blade 60gb = loud, and 19-blade 60gb = very quiet.

Dee_915474d ago

Wow that's a really good trade in price, shows you the power of the playstation brand in today's economic society.

But who in their right mind would trade in their lovely PS3? with the ever evolving firmware, ground breaking platform pushing first party titles and superior native 1080p games like GT5, i know i certainly wouldn't.

PS, bring on twisted metal PS3, that game looks absolutely raw epic FUN.

The futures bright, the futures playstation.

cappakrako5474d ago

What happened to this site? Where are all the xbox fanbois? I took a break for a few months, did all the Sonyfriends run them off? Where is the healthy debate? Where is the constant trolling? All I see is Sony asskissing and I'm not okay with this......

JoySticksFTW5474d ago

they will come. They're probably still sleeping.

Give them a chance to wake up and grab their morning coffee at least

Red-Dead-Roar5474d ago

do 13 years olds drink coffee already...

kneon5474d ago

@cappakrako

I think many of them have seen the light (a red circular one) and bought a PS3 :)

evilmonkey5015474d ago

yup...the new religion (that is ps3) is sweeping the world...converting people one last rrod at a time. Who wants a crapbox360 NOW? basically no one..

Luzce5474d ago

The ones who didn't buy a PS3 went extinct.

olLANDSHARKlo5474d ago

Cappa, there enjoying their console and games, unlike how the ps3 fanboys sit on here all day. But I guess with games like modnation racers(kids game), little big planet and ratchet and clank, n4g sounds like fun.

I would never trade my phat for slim just yet, and second would never trade it in for a 360 slim. Especially since my elite still works just fine.

Knock on wood lol.

gtamike5474d ago

-----------> goes on ebay and buys lots of cheap PS3s lol

FreeFalling5474d ago

Trade in their PS3 fats for a slim? Huge step backwards. Unless they wanted a Xbox 360 S, then I can see why. :l [Yes, I know a couple of people who are unhappy and want to trade in their PS3's for a 360 S, regardless of the fanboys on this site. :] ]

BYE5468d ago

The lifespan of a unit is limited. With trading an old one for a new you can extend your PS3 experience for a few more years.

KEEPNITREAL5474d ago

true, except if its the 60g bc ps3 . i did trade in my 80g for a the new 360 , very well worth it. I'm not the only one doing that forsure. I'm happy with my 60g ps3 , my 120g elite and new 360

Yes, so long as it's working. They take PS3s those warranties have expired, so I don't see why they wouldn't take one, with a voided warranty.

Obviously they do test each PS3. I remember when my XBOX got tested and the controller was broken. The dumbass clerk didn't figure out that you couldn't turn left (he tested it on Rainbow 6 vegas).

bumsick5474d ago

i work in a game store in the uk (game is gamestop in us) they will take it if it is outside manufacturers warranty, but if u have voided the seals they will not take it.

evilmonkey5015474d ago

I have personally seen them take some w/out the factory stickers @ Gamestop in the U.S. They don't care right now. They cant get new ones, so why would they be so picky when they're this hard up ?

Why would any rational and sane person ever want to get rid of their PS3?...

LtSkittles5475d ago

I wouldn't want to get rid of it, I would want to upgrade.

Jazz41085474d ago

I work for game stop and the reason for this is the 360 trade in credit is high right now. I'm truly considering it as my fat ps3 never get used other then a occasional check out game or blueray movie. I just don't like the ps3 firmware at all as its very dos looking. Its getting better but like I have stated before I don't have time to install games and wait sometimes upward of 30 min. I'm not a fanboy of either system but I do most of my gaming on my 360 for these reasons as live is very modern and fast and the network is always full of compeition competively and ameture. And of course no automatic installs which saves me precious time. That's my story but I don't hate the ps3 as I sell both and recommend it a lot to the people that have plenty of time and don't want to pay for online. What's funny though its usually mom buying it for her kids and online is not even talked about until the kid here's about live or psn at school. Then they come back and ask how to get it but they don't usually care too much when you mention it at first. Anyways nice trade in deal and both consoles have the ups and downs and a true hardcore gamer that's not a fanboy will own both as they both are unique and offer something the other does not do as well. That's my 2 cents.

cappakrako5474d ago

Okay, first, I thought your post was very well put and I agree to some extent, but I do disagree with your point about installs. I have only ever had an install last more than 10 minutes twice (once because mgs4 installs b4 the game and in between every level and Socom: Con because it was horribly broken at launch). What game took you 30 minutes? Have you ever gamed on your pc? Installs are nothing new. I do realize that the same game for the xbox360 plays as soon as you pop it in but I can't bring myself to buy another after my first 2 RRoD'd.

kneon5474d ago

I also can't remember a single install taking more than 10 minutes. Even yesterdays firmware update took 7 minutes from initiating the download to rebooting the new firmware.

Glasscocked5474d ago

Even so a 10 minute install is 10 minutes you could be doing something else. Who wants to boot a console game and wait 10 minutes before you can play it? MGS4 took at least 5 minutes every chapter. That was painful.

Luzce5474d ago

It felt so good to pop in FFXIII and not need to "update" or install... Can we get more games like that pls? Thx.

Morituri5474d ago

I disagree with the notion that jazz's post was well put.
He doesn't like the firmware???
Installs?

Apparently he also doesn't like the best exclusives this gen as well.

Pumbli5475d ago

Well I can think of a few reasons, money problems, not interesting in gaming anymore, moving to PC or other console, selling old model (40 and 20gb f.e.) to get a new one.

There are most likely more reasons then that, I just can't think of more right now.

Myze5475d ago

Money problems wouldn't work, since this is for store credit, not cash. If money problems are bad enough where the person has to trade in one system to get money for, say, games for another system, they shouldn't be spending it on gaming anyway.

Your other reasons make sense. Although, I can't see myself ever selling my ps3 for any reason other than your trading for newer model reason, except mine has BC, so not likely to get rid of it unless it breaks.

deeznuts5475d ago

I actually have an extra one now. I have a launch PS2 20gb with PS2 compatibility. My deadbeat friend borrowed $100 from me in Vegas. Told me he pay me back on Monday. Come monday, I got an offer, buy his Ps3 slim, used twice only, for $120. So it's not buy it, and maybe never see my money again, or buy it, and recoup some of it.

If it was $200 cash I'd do it asap. Get $80 of my $100 back (well 100 because he owed me $20 from a UFC bet, he bet on Kimbo slice, I bet the marine white guy that won some show, I dunno I never watched UFC)

Fuzia5475d ago

Wonder how much MS paid for this little trick... I recall an article about Gamestop just a couple days ago.

Sadly, I think many people will trade their PS3's in for the new X360S... To me, it would be like trading a slick 28 geared mountainbike for a red tricycle at toys'r'us ... but some people prefer the extra wheel, I guess.

MightyMark4275475d ago

people are tempted to try out the new 360 Slim. Of course, people who got bored of their ps3 MIGHT trade it

LtSkittles5475d ago

Like I said above I would want to upgrade to better hdd, but only, because I love my PS3.

acedoh5475d ago

Maybe it has to do with the fact that PS3's are in limited supply and EB knows they can turn around an make a profit off this deal. I have an extra PS3 but it needs to be fixed first.. I am sure I am not the only one like this.

Jazz41085474d ago

Two things. Eb does not own gamestop its the other way around and two we have at least 15 ps3s in every store in vegas and gamestop has 36 stores here so thet are not in high demand. We went through a period about a month ago that sony did not send us any stock for over 2 months and that's when the demand was high but there's plenty to be had everywhere in vegas and at every walmart and target etc....

Project: Horned Owl Review

From the mid-1980s to the early part of the 2000s, light gun rail shooters were a staple in both arcade and home system gaming. Arguably, the genre started to really hit its stride in the mid-1990s. While games like Time Crisis, Virtual Cop, and House of the Dead, among others, dominated both the home system and arcade space, some one relegated to only home game systems. Today, we’ll be talking about a little-known cult game published by Sony called Project: Horned Owl. This game was developed by Alfa Systems, and all in all, this is a fun game.
