AHH Spoilers! Careful.. good article, but spoilers ahead!

Joule5470d ago

Haven't played any of the games but it beats Heavy Rain in story?? I need answers from you guys.

knight6265470d ago

i think i liked heavy rains story more than Alan awake

Hideo_Kojima5470d ago

nah halo 3 has the best story

Weaksauce11385470d ago

Easily beats Heavy Rain since it doesnt betray it's own game mechanics in the narrative like Heavy Rain did.

jackdoe5470d ago

I like both equally, but I feel that Heavy Rain executed better. Alan Wake's stiff facial expressions killed some of the mood. DLC should fix this though.

GWAVE5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

If people think Alan Wake's story is the best in years, they are either

A) not playing very many games, or
B) high as a kite

I played and beat Alan Wake. The storyline was interesting but incredibly unoriginal. I am absolutely puzzled by the media's masturbation over this game. It's like when the media claimed GTA4's storyline was on par with the Godfather movie series, or when Gears of War 2 got 10/10 scores for Story in several reviews...lolwut?

I just don't get it. Maybe I've been playing games too long. But I've seen a great video game story, and Alan Wake ain't it.

Snakefist305470d ago

Well UNCHARTED 2's story is best one ever.

HolyOrangeCows5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

Because they copy and pasted Steven King's work, more or less.

Cryptech5470d ago

Heavy rain and Alan Wake both had crappy stories. Alan Wake was probably worse cuz it makes even less sense than Heavy Rains.

wiggles5470d ago

Heavy rain's story Beats AW's....

There are certain times in AW where I couldn't believe that a specific character would act a certain way...it made no sense....It feel like you are in a video game the entire time my roommates can back me up

However, by the end of my first play through of Heavy Rain I had a crowd of 5 people guys & girls with a mixture of gamers and non-gamers that were all equally interested in how the story would turn out.

Alan Wake is one of the best games I ever played. It has a great narrative, and amazing graphics and atmosphere. I truly loved the whole journey.

phosphor1125470d ago

Max Payne. That game (also made by Remedy) completely blows Alan Wake out the water in many aspects. Yes, Heavy Rain is great, but because Max Payne is 100% linear, it doesn't have the small problems of HR.

Anyway... Time to pop in MP again... that game is great... I LOVE THE DIALOGUE!

ProjectVulcan5470d ago

Play the half life series already and get back to me.

Alan wake....FGS......

Cryptech5470d ago

Agreed. Half-Life is the shit. Pretty crazy a story can be that good and your character doesnt even talk, lol!

ProjectVulcan5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

Half life series especially from the second on doesnt even need chapter recaps, voiceovers or rendered cut scenes with crazy lip synching....its the pioneer of interactive storytelling. You ARE Gordon Freeman in the game and as a voiceless character immediately engaged in that persona, and you play it through from end to end seamlessly.

Its a masterclass in character development. They are some of the most rounded believable simply.....people, in any game ever. Its impossible to not follow the series and feel real empathy for alyx and her father. Genuinely stunned was i, i was, at the end of episode two. Roll on three

AciDx5470d ago

soo pretty much all the xbox fanboys are gonna agree and the ps3 fanboys are gonna say heavy rain is the best. its all opinion guys and this guy is just giving that lol

EvilBlackCat5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

NO NEED to defend this game. Anyone who have played know the quality of the gameplay/Story/Characters that have.

Anyone bashing it is a damn ignorant. This translated into the Big Screen is going to be a Blockbuster.

I mean come on anyone bashing it? tell me what you dont like about the story/plot/characters. Dont come like "oh this game sucks" without any knowledge of how good it is.

@jackdoe
"I like both equally, but I feel that Heavy Rain executed better. Alan Wake's stiff facial expressions killed some of the mood. DLC should fix this though"

This.

Edit: Also, the author sounds like he's trying to overcomplicate his article with lots of abstract descriptions and metaphors.

Deathracer5470d ago

Ummmm no, Heavy Rain has had the best story in any video game I've ever played. The voice acting just sucked at some points. Alan Wake was just to predictable, I enjoyed the game and while it was fun while it lasted, I just could predict what was going to happen before it actually happened. With Heavy Rain though, it kept me guessing and going "Wow WTF, I wasn't expecting that" kind of moments.

XBLA Classic 'A World of Keflings' Is Coming to Steam, and There's a Demo

"Back in the innocent days of 2010, A World of Keflings was a fairly popular successor to A Kingdom for Keflings. I even wrote about it a few times in 2012! But the world of humans moved on, and NinjaBee's city-building/adventure game was last seen on the ill-fated Wii U in 2014. Fast-forward to the dark year of 2025, and not only is A World of Keflings coming to Steam, but there's already a playable demo! Perhaps the cheerful, no pressure gameplay that the Keflings bring is just what we need nowadays," says Co-Optimus.

It Has Been Over 2,500 Days Since The Elder Scrolls 6 Was Revealed

It will come out in another 1000-2000 days or so. I’d rather they remake Morrowind. After they added quest arrows, sprint button, making stats lesser and the big nerfs to spells Elder Scrolls has been too simplified. They could change that with ES6 but I don’t have much faith in modern Bethesda. I would love to be wrong

Dear God it's been 4 years since infinite and no official update on anything lol.

Tacoboto5d ago

No official update on anything?

They replaced studio leadership
They changed the studio name
They announced the change to UE5
... all while supporting Infinite

The support to Infinite isn't what it originally should have been but they've still been providing tons of official updates over the years, and as recently as two months ago added a brand new weapon.

GamerRN4d ago

I think remaking Halo Combat Evolved, and going to 2 and 3 again, will help give the studio an idea of how to make a Halo game feel like Halo again

Tacoboto4d ago

Infinite did feel like Halo, that's not what the complaints were...

The complaints were almost literally everything else. Monetization, netcode and desync, the campaign structure, story, and single biome, the weaker-than-expected post-launch content.

InUrFoxHole4d ago

Gotta agree. Infinite felt like halo.

Profchaos5d ago

Dev times in modern days 4 years of silence isn't unheard of when things are running smoothly.

And around 6 months ago 343 did show a tech demo of ue5 using halo assets so it's not radio silence.

Given all the shake ups i am more surprised we're getting anything next year at all.

RaidenBlack5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

They coulda started with Halo 3 remake ... I know Halo CE remaster was not proper with the art style but still, remaking after a remaster seems dull, when Halo 3 and Reach have started to show some age.

PhillyDonJawn5d ago

Yeah I hate they used Halo reach artstyle. Hope this remake feel authentic yet fresh

--Onilink--5d ago

Probably the simplest to work around with. They are reportedly doing it in UE5, so its just as much an Anniversary thing, as its probably the studio getting familiar and setting up their tools and processes in the engine with an actual game, to facilitate the development of the next Halo

Profchaos5d ago

I'm guessing combat evolved has a smaller scope in general the later half of the game features a ton of backtracking and reused assets making it a easier game to remake on a deadline

Its also a better choice if this is the first game to be multiplatform mind you I think it's pretty much a given that anyone with a passing curiosity has played this by now in some way be it pc or brought a used console for a few bucks

darthv725d ago

This will likely come to PS5 at the same time. 25 years of XB.... shared with PS.

Obscure_Observer5d ago

It´s gonna be among best sellers on PS Store next year regardless.

raWfodog4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I would love to see Lost Odyssey come over to PS5. I would definitely buy that again. That was the first game that I played on my 360. Loved the story and battle system. One of the best JRPGs of all time in my opinion.
