Worldwide PS3 Sales @ 4.48 million

Worldwide sales of the PlayStation 3 stand at approximately 4.48 million (prior to Q1 2007 Sony only quoted units shipped not sold). 3.57 million came in the final half of the previous year.

If Sony can meet its forecast then as of March 31, 2008, worldwide PlayStation 3 sales will have reached approximately 14.5 million units.

The story is too old to be commented.

The xbox 360 didnt even reach that amount in the same time period. They havent even sold 12 million and they were at ten after a years lead. Hey but if that rumor or the new ps3 wiht the 40gb is tru then it will happen

I was saying that the xbox 360 has not sold 14 million in 15 months i dont think it is posssiible for the ps3 to od the same ...Regardless I got mine

the 360 and ps3 are different machines. They all have a basic function which is play games but they different.

You cant expect sales to be the same.

You can go over to VGChartz and look at the history. Generate and look at the chart of Xbox 360 and PS3 sales. Align Xbox 360 and PS3 sales by launch dates, and you'll see that they have sold about the same numbers of units at each time frame, with Xbox 360 having a little bit of advantage at each time period since launch.

Well first off, VGChartz says 3.89 while the real number is 4.48. So the PS3 is selling faster than the 360 did in the same time period.

But the big thing is the 360 had a full year without ANY competition. That included a full holiday season where nothing but the 360 was available.

The PS3 has had 2 competitors the whole time.

MS has sold just 10.2 million units in 20 months...

ps3 has sold 3.9 m units in 7 months at 600$

MS has shipped 12 million units...most of which are on the shelves

x360 is the least selling console in the world

"the xbox 360 didnt even reach that amount in the same time period"

Ihave no idea what MS are doing as of recent. They had sucha good lead but the last few months really have been stale with no new games (of any quality) and sales have hit a wall.

why not a price drop? SOny can manage it and i think if MS want to gain momentum they will have to. Its all very well waiting for "the best holiday ever" but sales are stooping NOW so act NOW!

These are very impressive sales for the PS3, and could on them.

(Although it annoys me ever so slightly because with no games of any quality (bar a 2 to begin with), its almost as if they get away with not having any. I would much rather see PS3 storm to success at christmas when they do deserve it with the new games.)

Have you experienced the wonder of puberty yet? Your body changes, your voice deepens, AND many people also grow a little more intelligent. I would ponder each comment you make very carefully because it gives away your age right away. My guess...12 years old....Right?

On to the topic...It would be interesting if someone would comment about shipped v.s sold. Despite thoughts on the contrary Sony did NOT sell 4.48 million consoles to consumers. They did sell 4.48 million consoles to stores to be sold.

The most amusing thing about reading any flame bait article is that fanboy's come out of the closet every time. lol

Btw...360 FTW!!!!!

That these sales are in the midst of some strong competition. In fact, this is the best competition Sony has ever faced in my opinion. These numbers prove the power of the name Playstation alone. There were no good games to play for a while (trust me I know) and the console still sold a solid amount against a contender that has a strong library and a year's head start, and another contender that is playing off on a neverending fad.
The Playstation is picking up some serious steam, and the best games aren't even out yet. These next few months are gonna rock, and i'm goin to go broke trying to keep up.

The most well put comment yet in my opinion, EZCheez, bubbles to you!

Most of the sales of the PS3s where not to gamers, they where people looking for a cheaper Blu-Ray player, that is why their game sales are much lower then expected. Do you think gamers would get a console with no games out? No way, only a few diehards. Now that the price has dropped and there are a few games coming out the sales will spike but I don't see them making there numbers unless they have another price drop sometime in Nov. I would guess.

4.48 million in less than a year ? thats not bad at all. just a little short of the 5 million mark.

EDIT: Someone disagrees with me ? for what ?

boodybandit5419d ago

Someone disagreeing with you someone shocks you? I am on someone's ignore list because I said EA is lazy for not having Madden @ 60fps on the PS3. I also had 2 bubbles taken away for that remark. There are a lot of childish people on here. It's sad.

Sony is doing great and their sales will only get stronger each month.

ReconHope5419d ago

those predictions are a bit arrogant. I say that 10 million is a bit more doable.

Frulond5419d ago (Edited 5419d ago )

considering the BIG PS3 exclusives (aka killzone2, GT5, MGS4) are coming early next year and should boost sales a bit more. Also maybe Home will help a bit and whatever reputation PS3 gets from upcoming titles like Lair, Heavenly Sword and Warhawk, can be a fact in hardware sales on the upcoming months.

You're right I totally forgot about that :)

ReconHope5419d ago (Edited 5419d ago )

that could be a factor in the sales. i hope it helps. I can't wait to get my hands on mg4, ff13, and killzone 2. they could push sales.
