Review: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - Examiner

The Metal Gear Solid series isn't foreign to the PSP; in fact there have been four Metal Gear Solid releases since the system's launch. Metal Gear Ac!d wasn't that well received because of the nature of the game -- slow strategy-based combat -- but Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Portable Ops + were more welcomed to the system. Even with four MGS-related titles on the system, people still wanted a true entry of the franchise to take on the go. Finally, all that patience has paid off with the release of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Dubbed Metal Gear Solid 5 by series creator Hideo Kojima, Peace Walker is the next true installment of the hit tactical espionage series and this handheld version plays like a console version and features tons of extra missions and game modes to keep you busy for a long time.

I've been a little disappointed with the direction the series has taken. Maybe this will be a reason for me to get back into it

I miss the "stealth" that used to be involved. Seems more action now days than anything.

DaRockSays5465d ago (Edited 5465d ago )

By "action" you mean cut-scenes right? I heard this one was easier on that though

CrAppleton5465d ago

yeah, that's another bad move they made

Neco5125465d ago

What?? The cut-scenes were amazing in MGS4, why would you even want to cut out a story like that?

Great review! The graphics look pretty damn good on the PSP. Looks like a PS2 game or better

I love this game so much. I hated the other MGS games on the psp with a passion and was really apprehensive about getting PW. This just proves how genius Kojima is. Regardless of the crap controls of the psp this game still manages to be my GOTY so far, and I thought Read Dead was a lock in but I think this is even better.

some really good games on that list. some of my favorites (not on the list) are Metal Slug XX, ultimate Ghosts & Goblins, Gradius Collection, Motorstorm Arctic Edge and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters.

Metal Slug XX is surprisingly good.

I get that The Warriors is technically a PS2 game ported over, but damn it's amazing on the PSP

Dark Mirror was the best. Multiplayer and single player was fantastic

The Out of Place Artifact - A Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Retrospective

VGChartz's Issa Maki: "Even to fans, the thought that a T-rated game could rank as the greatest is virtually unthinkable; how could the best Metal Gear possibly be a handheld title on a system less powerful than a PlayStation 2? Because it had to be – necessity is the mother of invention. Not only is this a full-fledged Metal Gear, the fresh spin on the gameplay draws from several sources outside of its wheelhouse. Peace Walker somehow manages to be less like its predecessor, Portable Ops, and more akin to Metal Gear Solid V. What boggles the mind is that it would be over five years before The Phantom Pain would release, an entire generation later."
