No exclusives for PS3 GTA IV?

It's no secret that the long-ago announced downloadable episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of the game. According to Rockstar Games spokesman Hosi Simon, however, there won't be any consolation prizes for those who choose to buy the PlayStation 3 edition instead. When asked during a preview of the game whether there would be any advantage to owning the PS3 version that could rival the 360's exclusives, Simon said, "not that I can think of."

"They're identical games," Simon continued. "We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want.

"But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose," Simon said.

a Sh*tload of money for rockstar to be so absolute about DLC. Guess I will have to get the 360 version instead of the PS3. I hope the buttons feel a little more natural this time around.

The 360 version of ANY game is better than the PS3 version due to Live and rumble, but this takes it to another level!

ericnellie5410d ago

a comment I made a long time ago stated that the 360 was the only one that would get exclusive content and I had like 10 people disagree with my comment and i was only stating what Peter Moore had said. It feels pretty good to be right sometimes. Either way, everyone will enjoy this long awaited addition to the series. I'll get a copy for my 360 and PS3 just because I can;) A Wii version would be cool too...could you imagine pimp smackin' someone in the game with the!!

lVlemphizStylez5410d ago

I dunno dude..I wanna say ppl will live without that extra hour of play you may get out of the downloadable episodes..The core experience is still there...

Xeoset5410d ago

Mines got the new Heatsink and Pipe Technology and that big old 3 years warranty, have fun with your preggo console and no DLC ;)

Also, the DLC is meant to be around 1/4 of the actual game and then there's two of them. They're going to be huge.

Nemesis5410d ago

That's okay. Means I can disagree with you 3 times!

The PS3 version does not have it on BluRay if it did it wouldn't be called Exclusive episodic content. He even says "They're identical games," But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose,"

Meaning only the 360 is going to have it.

Episodic content
During Microsoft's 2006 E3 press conference on May 9, it was announced that Grand Theft Auto IV would be available for the Xbox 360 and that Rockstar Games will offer exclusive episodic content via Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 version. This had been confirmed by Rockstar, announcing two extra, exclusive, episodes.[26] After the press conference, Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, posted a press release announcing Grand Theft Auto IV will be released simultaneously for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. On February 28, 2007 it was announced that exclusive episodic content will be introduced starting in 2008.[27]

Peter Moore, head of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business division announced that Rockstar Games is working on two downloadable packs for GTA IV exclusively on the 360, which will probably be available within months of the game's release date. Moore described downloadable content as "epic episode packs", and not just extra cars or characters. A press release during the conference said that the packs would add "hours of entirely new gameplay" to the game.[28] The official Xbox website states that these episodes will last a minimum of 10 hours.[29] Details on the pricing of these downloads have not yet been revealed, though it would almost certainly not be released for free, as Take-Two Interactive's former CEO, Paul Eibeler, have said numerous times that these downloads would provide "additional revenue streams" to the company.

As part of a conference call following the release of Take-Two Interactive's Second Quarter Fiscal 2007 financial results, the company's Chief Financial Officer, Lainie Goldstein revealed that Microsoft was paying a total of US$50 Million for exclusivity of this content split equally between the two packs.[30] The payments can be found referenced in the company's Second Quarter Fiscal 2007 financial results as "Deferred revenue".
