Xbox 360 capable of full stereoscopic 3D afterall?

Well, I feel that this debate can now be settled; in a press release Monday, EA announced that Crysis 2 will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 with full stereoscopic 3D effects."

We have known this for a while now...

But the thing is that the 3D on PS3 is made up by 2 images placed side by side that the tv cuts into 2 and displays in 3d.

The 3d on the 360 is similar but there is only 1 image which is half for the left eye and half for the right eye that is split up by the tv and displayed in 3d...

All in all 360 3D has half the max horizontal resolution that PS3 can have.

Yep mainly due to the 360 having HDMI 1.2.

The problem with the 360 and other older consoles is that they are incapable of pumping out 3D at the quality supported only by the latest HDMI specifications.

Personally it isnt a big deal, both likely can speak, walk, etc etc. Theres alot of room to grow into down the road; see what I meant, not that far off as an example.

the real question is, since hdmi 1.4 is REQUIRED (it's the industry standard) for 3d, which tv's will be able to play this?

PS3 has Version 1.3 where the Xbox 360 only has version 1.2.... And PS3 is capable of a much higher bandwidth so PS3 and other 1.3 and 1.4 HDMI Hardware devices can display true HD 3D content Xbox Can NOT.

the thing youre forgetting is that the PS3 cant even do a single image in 1080p for anything other than the most basic game, so its DEFINITELY not doing 1080p 3D.

as we've already seen with anything other than arcade games like SSHD, the resolutions of the games drop a LOT when done in 3D.

what you guys are failing to recognize is, first of all hdmi 1.2 is locked at 60fps, so no 120fps 3d. it also cannot even do 720p in 3d, not enough bandwidth. ALSO, hdmi 1.4 tv's will not accept ANY 3d signal unless it's a hdmi 1.4 or 1.3 compatible device connected to them. that's what you call an industry standard, one that was finalized after the 360 launched. ps3 was able to have it's hdmi 1.3 port upgraded because both use the same amount of bandwidth, which is double that of hdmi 1.2.

and yes, ps3 has to downscale to do 3d in many cases, so imaging how much 360 is going to have to downscale to not only accommodate the increased resolution required for 3d (360 has a MUCH smaller frame buffer than ps3, mind you. 13mb vs. up to 256mb's), but also to be able to fit the resulting video feed through the hdmi 1.2 connection. then the tv has to be able to recognize it, which it won't because it doesn't fit the 3d hdmi standard spec.

pc was doing 3d before hdmi was even invented. 360 wont have to adhere to any set standards as it doesn't play blu rays so doesn't have to meet any specs set by the blu ray forum, unlike sony

But it didn't look good while it was playing that game, I have a 3d enabled TV myself and the frame count on 360 was to low to count the movements as fluid in 3d settings.

1.4 and 1.3 have same bandwidth Look it up the 1.4 upgraded the resoltion that hdmi can out put to 4096×2160 check you dont belive thats only upgrade done 360 has 1.2 nearly half bandwidth of what hdmi 1.3 and 1.4 run at this why people with old blu rays are not needed to go and buy new ones.

+ MS gains NOTHING w 3D movement other than the fact that they will seem as if they are "en par" with the competition

When I look across the room at my dog, I see true 3D. Guess what I don't need glasses. So, technically isn't all of this technology really fake 3D. After all it is being displayed on a flat screen.

Avatar had 3d support on 360. The game output 2 sub HD sceen for 3D. Would be interested to see how they do 3D in full 720p on 360.

Crysis will not be using the same tech as the ps3 3D and 3D tvs use. You can play crisis on any tv b/c it wont be using the newer 3D technology Its not the same 3d as the ps3 will have. The trailer was played on a big projector which isnt the same 3D that the new 3D tvs have. So this 3D and the ps3's 3D isnt the same at all.

According to company that created HDMI the PS3 is the only only console able to do True 3D (I can't find the video but they go pretty in-depth about how it works on HDMI 1.3a and HDMI 1.4 and the similarities between both). I've researched this in-depth including HDMI 1.4 and can guarantee you that a console with a HDMI 1.2 in/out put 'CAN NOT' do authentic or True 3D.

@Bluemaster77: Yes it does matter, True 3D is crystal clear with no blurry side effects and the sense of 3D stays constant and it doesn't downgrade the picture quality. Fake 3D like the 360 produces a messed up image with blur and the sense of 3D isn't always there.
