Wii Surprise Coming in September

Loot Ninja reports that Nintendo executive Reggie Fils-Aime is proclaiming a big surprise for all Wii owners in the next coming months. Nintendo recognizes the useless nature of the WiiConnect24 and promises to bring something to the table by September. So let the speculation begin, many people think this will be Mii related, Loot Ninja for one doesn't care for any gimmics just give them some games! Online gaming would be great, but that shouldnt be a surprise, that is a must at this point. Th Wii is quickly falling behind all the other consoles from an online perspective.

The Wii did get a lot more virtual games than Microsoft but other than that the Wii is lacking games.

Lets see what Nintendo can announce as soo far imo no company that has claimed a major announcement was major at all.

Yeah a lot of people think it is the Check Mii Out thing, if this is the big surprise this might be hte biggest bust since Peter Moore announced the Halo inspired Xbox 360, ZING!

The Wii is not a HD capable machine and the games are not created in HD either, looking at the poly count and the visuals on the Wii games even when I had one and put the games on 480p they looked dreadful and looked much better on the official Scart by Nintendo.

Unless Nintendo turn around and say the Wii is infact HD capable and they will be upgrading it via firmware and all future games will be in HD along with better visuals and even better gameplay then yeah thats a huge amazing announcement but one that seems unlikely.

The wii is a beefed up game cube with a good bit more ram. I think 720p isnt out of the question. They could do 720p on the original xbox and it has less ram than a wii.

sidar the wii has more processing power than the xbox and the xbox had 720p games and 1080i games. Its not a processing issues its a frame buffer issues wich ram could easily fix and it has more ram than an xbox.

i think they will try to make home ver with mii in it.
they will take second life the game and create more world(or places) and put mii in it.
they will announced 60 gig hard drive with couple of new firmware update.

...and if they could make the read speed fast enough it would be sweet if the HDD add-on was wireless. But alas this has nothing to do with Wii Connect24 so I'm guessing a HDD is out of the question, as well as new colors. As for DVD playback, it isn't going to happen, probably ever.

A new Wii channel is my guess, possibly the Check Mii Out channel. Yes, they announced it at E3 but Nintendo's announced things before and said later it was a surprise, like the Wii Zapper for instance. Other things I can think of are firmware upgrades that make the Wii Shop channel more efficient, new menu styles, and perhaps a VC upscaler that upscales VC games into 480 widescreen mode (I think that's a long shot but I can dream).

No really, I don't think they will abandon this gift horse of a machine (profits-wise) but as many have said, this was all an experiment. Nintendo knows they will not be able to ride this novelty wave all the way back to the beach, so it's time to bring in bigger guns, deadlier ammo for the REAL gamers. As one of my comrades in arms always says:

I think Nintendo is repeating its marketing strategy it used with the NES. The Wii is a lot like the original NES. It has expanded the gaming demographic, brought with it multiple peripherals and experimented with user interfaces, tried (is trying) new and various games with original and unique gameplay.

It may not be the system that the current main stream gamer was waiting for but it did start a revolution in gaming just as the original NES did (and as Nintendo said it would). We all know what happened after the NES, Nintendo released the SNES and took the gaming community by storm.

Think about that when you ponder the next great systems... The Wii's succesor should be incredible in gameplay and graphics (crossing fingers). I just hope it's not called the SWii. However, that may be SWiit :P

HDD add on would be interesting, but how would it integrate with Wiiconnect. Maybe it will be like the Folding at home thing? The worst add on channel was that Wii voting channel, that was as useful as a poopie flavored lolipop!!

Nintendo is also supposed to be working on a new Zelda title. So maybe they will be showing some early stuff on it.

The guy doing the interview kinda baited/pressured Reggie into the answer he gave (ie. that there's a "surprise").

I think the "surprise" will simply be the date that Check Mii Out becomes available. We'll all just wake up one morning... and surprise!... the Wii is flashing blue with Check Mii Out d/l available.

I don't expect it to be anything other than that, and all the hype that has been generated by people misquoting him as it being a BIG surprise, is just setting people up for disappointment.

I just remembered reading an interview w/ George Harrison in which he said something to the effect of WiiWare coming along a lot faster than they had anticipated. So perhaps this might have something to do w/ WiiWare.
