Is Sony Spoiling their E3?

Sony has been dropping tons of massive reveals right before E3:

- LittleBigPlanet 2
- Killzone 3
- Infamous 2
- Motorstorm Apocalypse

People also thought they were going to hold off on shipping stereoscopic 3D games until E3, but they did that early as well.

They probably did this to clear E3 for new IP's or unexpected sequels, or gameplay, I mean I'm not so mad about them revealing so many games because I expected all these sequels anyway.

sinncross5066d ago

its called pre-e3 momentum, and frankly it seems to be working.

guitarded775066d ago

And this way we can expect gameplay, not just an announcement and a trailer... there will still be plenty of surprises at E3. They're just getting the fire started, Sony will have plenty to announce on the 15th.

WildArmed5066d ago

I agree.
More importantly, now they can focus on showing gameplay and wow-ing the crowd.
Then them just getting hyped over nothing.
Like last E3,
Uncharted 2 really stole the show with that demo.
Even though it was announced awhile ago

Cheeseknight285066d ago

So long as the entire conference isn't Move-related, we can all look forward to a hell of a show.

candystop5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

How will they showcase gameplay when maybe over half of there game's will be released in 2011 and beyond. I do agree it's a great way to excite people and draw attention to PS3 but in a way they are kind of avoiding E3 because they know MS wants to steam roll them. Sonys E3 will be about numbers for investors, 3d, and visions of the future(PS4).

WhittO5066d ago

Only because we all assume what they have to show, which were the obvious games that they are announcing now and wouldn't surprise anyone anyway, it will just make MS look bad when they announce exactly what everyone expected, lots of Natal Apps etc, Halo, random stolen exclusive etc, etc.

Hideo_Kojima5066d ago

We know all this game are coming but we don't really know what they are like.

Killzone 3 teaser trailer is more than I needed to make sure I will watch it live so that I can see the full trailer.

badz1495066d ago

I don't get all these "spoiling", "ruining" things people are talking about! on the bright side, now I have tremendous anticipation of what is going to be shown @ E3 by Sony! this E3 will be AWESOME!

Death24945066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

you hit it right on the head. That's exactly what i was thinking. I'm almost certain that either Getaway or 8days is going to make another debut. I remember both of those titles being put on hold but not canceled. Dead Nation is a must buy for me. It's by the same studio that did Stardust HD(which i own). I really hope they allow offline/online co-op.

Raf1k15066d ago

Offline co-op would be great. Couple that with online co-op would be even better.

silvacrest5066d ago

it would be nice if 8 days saw the light of day

i remember 8 days being the first PS3 i ever saw, to think it still hasn't been released is quite funny

blusoops5066d ago

Look on the psblog in the DeadNation post. The developer answers a question regarding this.

Can't remember if it had online co op aswell, but I know offline co op is already confirmed.

Faztkiller5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

E3's only a week Sony needs a month apparently

EDIT opps didn't mean to reply

oli5066d ago

i want a ps3 sly cooper, jak n daxter, and legend of dragoon

goodfellas275066d ago

I would love to see a new Warhawk game. That would complement SLY,JAK and LoD

Cevapi885066d ago

Incognito is working on Starhawk....hopefully we will see something new on this game....the fact that Warhawk has had so much support ever since its launch is amazing

Dragun6195066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

If Anything, Sony is just merely hyping up the E3 Presentation and So far I'm excited for it. What a better way than to start it off by announcing sequels to their know Franchises, then Sony can make room to show off new IPs such as Agent, The Last Guardian, Starhawk, etc.

That and the fact that maybe Sony wants to spend time on other subjects such as what will Move's launch titles will be, GT5 Release date.

IdleLeeSiuLung5066d ago

It is going to be hard for Sony after all this information to make a splash at E3. Not because they have nothing to show, but they let out so much information already it is hard to wow the audience.

This is most likely done intentionally as they don't want news from other companies to drown their own (or leaks for that matter), but this also diminishes their E3 show. In the meantime they have secured weeks of media attention and consumer eye balls on n4g.com.

I predict, most of the good stuff has already been announced and a size-able part of E3 for Sony will be PS Move. After all they only have so much time on-stage....

raztad5066d ago

You are clearly underestimating Sony and its 20+ studios. All the games already announced as mindblowing as they are, are just the "left over". Expect something else.

candystop5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Raztad is correct. I expect 4 Sony exclusives to every 1 MS exclusive. So if MS offers 10 exclusives Sony better announce 40 because they have so many studios. If not then I guess having all those studios is pointless.

edit@ beast below: My advice to you is wait until E3 before you start claiming when exclusives are coming and how many each console has. I think it's pretty obvious MS went silent in 2008 and 2009 to come out with a bang in 2010 and beyond. Just wait for the show and then we can start the stupid list stuff.

Beast_Master5066d ago

I am pretty certain you don't have a clue what your talking about. Sony has more exclusives coming out this fall and 2011 than Microsoft. I am sure a couple of these games will be pushed back but for as of today fall is looking like:
Fall 10
Motorstorm 3
DC Online
GT5
LB2
maybe Resistance 3 (my guess)
Move pack and games
Socom 4
FF14
Last Guardian
+
Stolen exclusives Mass Effect, L4D and Splinter Cell.

2011
KZ3
Infamous 2
Agent

360 has
Reach
Fable 3
Natal pack (rare games)
Crackdown 2

2011
Gears 3

So that is the list we know of now that is not getting steamrolled to me at least.

shadow27975066d ago

Motorstorm 3 has been given an estimated 2011 release by Evolution Studios. ;-)

Check the Eurogamer article at the very end and the Eurogamer Portugal video interview.

tyrex5066d ago

all of those games (except for motorstorm maybe) would ONLY be a surprise if they DIDN'T have another iteration announced. so i don't think it is the end for their conference. but only time will tell

IdleLeeSiuLung5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Anything they will announce is not likely to be released in the next 12 months let alone the next 6 months. Sony has a history of continuing to release information far into the future....

I don't want to wait 3+ years between announcement and getting the product in my hands. Announce something, release it no more than 12-18 months max.

From what I can tell, Sony might have a lot studios, but it seems the rate of exclusives being released are more or less the same as their competitors.

D4RkNIKON5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Yeah, lately there hasn't been much 360 news or games announced. Sony is doing this to steal the show before it even begins.

Here's to hoping that they are saving the PSP2 for E3!

silvacrest5066d ago

"Here's to hoping that they are saving the PSP2 for E3!"

AMEN!

AAACE55066d ago

More than likely, they have other stuff planned. So it should be alright!

silkrevolver5066d ago

Now that SONY has shown these titles prior to E3, you can only wonder what they considered worthy for reveal during the conference? I’m kind of loving SONY right now. The only thing they can do to ruin their conference is
A) not have Kevin Butler be the host. He is the S*^T!
B) Wifi not working. hahaha.... Apple....

shadow27975066d ago

This might be fairly optimistic of me, but the majority of the titles announced (with the exception of LBP2) are releasing in 2011. Perhaps Sony wants to announce the rest of their 2010 lineup at E3. That way they can show more detailed stuff and it won't be too far away from release. Unfortunately, if that's the case, we'll probably get our fair share of Move games. But that was expected anyway, wasn't it?

Right now, the second half of 2010 looks pretty barren for Sony (except LBP2 and SOCOM 4) in terms of big games. I hope we'll get some more 2010 announcements.

wiggles5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Good observation...

Although I am not excited about move...maybe they can work some Sony magic on me and convince me otherwise....but that would be the perfect show...

"hey everyone else is showing your games for 1-2 years down the road....we want to show you what you will have in 3-4 months."

That would be the perfect press conference for me...screw 1-2 years I am impatient..i want right now!!

blusoops5066d ago

Gran Turismo 5 for this calendar year!

Greywulf5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Who gives a rats ass about e3? I want games.... not a expo?

Sony could just post on the blog GT5's release date, and I'd be just as happy knowing that, as I would be if Lady Gaga comes out with Yamauchi to announce it..

E3 has lost its relevance with the globalized world/media. All eyes in the world are no longer focused on it. It was important when the industry was minuscule, but now there are game conferences everywhere.

People are acting as if E3 does anything? or means anything... to anyone...of any significance.

Silk:

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT E3?!?! You're just being sensational. You just get news from the conferences? Going to E3 is one thing, you play the titles...

Watching it stream? not the same thing.

silkrevolver5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

E3 is like my second Christmas! The Conferences are the S*^T!!!!!!! I love E3... especially now that it’s returned to form.

Reply: I enjoy watching them stream, yes. I like getting the news IN conference form. It just feels more exciting to me. Also, I’m excited for this E3 because I’m going to PAX in September, and I’ll get to play a lot of what is at this E3. I just like E3: sensationalistic or not.

shadow27975066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

E3 is the time of the year when gamers are bombarded with game trailers, announcements, live gameplay, and new hardware. It's euphoric. Gaming news trickles in during most of the year. During E3, it's an absolute downpour.

When all the news articles on this site come in, what do you think the major source will be? An E3 conference.

To me it sounds like you're just sore because you won't get to watch the conferences, and you'll have to get all the information second-hand.

Edit: @below

That's kind of an odd way to look at it, isn't it? You wouldn't have all those announcements if there wasn't an expo. The fact is, E3 exists and there are tons upon tons of gaming announcements. Isn't that warrant enough to be excited?

AssassinHD5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

I agree with Greywulf here. Aside from actually going to E3, which I am sure is a blast, the reason the expo is so important to us is really just the announcements. The announcements could be made without the conference and I would be just fine with it.

I mean really there is no difference in getting the information from an E3 stream or getting the information from the official websites. Either way we would get the same information, the same trailers, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I am certainly going to enjoy watching the E3 conferences, but the expo itself is really just window dressing.

Dan GamingBolt5066d ago

Just like those guys said, as stupid as it sounds, E3 is like the holiday season for gamers XD

SIR-DARK-HAZE5066d ago

I care, even though we don't know each other it's when us gamers all get together and discuss the brilliant games and tech shown, I will be watching the Sony press conference live. If that sounds stupid im sorry.

lpfisher5066d ago

It's kind of like going to midnight launches, to me. Yes, I can casually stroll into Gamestop and buy the game the day of. OR I can go to the store at 10 the night before with some friends and a case of Monster and enjoy the festivities that are often present. MW2 launch, for example, was a ton of fun.

We like the conferences because it isn't just another news day; I don't wake up on E3 mornings and say hmm I wonder what's new on the blogoshpere today. I wake up, turn my tv to G4, see what press cons are streaming online, grab some cereal, and geek out.

stuntman_mike5066d ago

I think its the feeling of being involved in something you love, because as soon as the conference starts you know millions of gamers are tuning in at that time and can discuss it there and then.

its a bit like saying what's the point of the world cup, or super-bowl or some such thing. if you haven't taken one thing from N4G yet its that us gamers are very passionate.

himdeel5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Otherwise I'm now really excited about what else they could show.

Beast_Master5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

sorry posted wrong place

Boody-Bandit5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Yeah it's so discouraging knowing that Sony is releasing a ton of new games! I hate knowing new titles are on their way to my gaming consoles. I would rather glitz, glamour, strobe lights, big booming music and famous people on parade that aren't even gamers marching out on stage to announce titles (most of which are multiplatform) so I can get really excited from the shock and awe! /S

The thing is Sony has so much to going on that they wont be able to cover it all in a couple hour press conference. This way they can get a good amount of their announements out early so they can show footage and information on them and cut down on what they want to focus on more.

Don't forget they have a handheld system, PS2 and have to give information on 3D gaming, Move and their new PSN+ (premium service). On top of dozens of new IP's and sequels.

Anyone that thinks Sony wont have quite a few surprises yet to be announced at E3 are kidding themselves.

BannedForNineYears5066d ago

Simple answer, no.
They didn't show any footage of the games.......So......
That's kinda what E3 is for. >_>

sikbeta5066d ago

All of these Games are Sequels, sure Sony got Loads of Games to Show at E3...

Lightsaber5066d ago

I dont think we will see any big surprise out of sony at E3. They have those 4 plus GT5 to show. Plus they have to show the PS Move and they are doin a 3D thing.

Unless I'm mistaken they have 2 hours to show all that off.

We'll find out soon enough tho

mastiffchild5066d ago

For a start Sony will have done this, probably, to create some momentum going into E3 AND to clear the way for Move, possible PSP2 and other unknown and updated game reveals.

Secondly, most people on N4G WILDLY overestimate the importance of E3. The main point is to schmooze the media and very little else and talk of who "won" E3 always makes me laugh. How can anyone win a press junket? You can't as it's entirely subjective and the thing is most gamers, so we're constantly told, are now casual and won't have a clue E3 even exists-hell, most serious gamers I know and play with don't follow it even if they do know it's on!

So who knows or, really(should) care if Sony have shot their bolt a bit early this year? they still got their games out there and perhaps outside the rush of E3 they managed it in a better way for writers to get a proper feel for these titles which, no doubt, will also be at E3 and prolly on the show floor for all to sample. I often consider E3 a conspicuous waste of time, money and man hours that could be better spent making games or hardware rather than talking for a short hour on stage-wouldn't smaller, one game focussed events throughout the year do the job just as well(or better) with half the cost? Sure, there's a lot of stuff going on, and things to demo on the floor as well but f it's main raison d'etre is these shows then I think it's a lot of fuss that very few gamers, in the greater scheme of things actually even notice-let alone get overly affected by.

When most who ARE bothered tend to al;ready know their minds it makes me even more interested to see if there's much point to the whole shebang. Yeah, I can see it's exciting and all but I wonder if it's really needed in this day and age when reaching people is a lot more easy than having to drag half the industry from all corners of the globe to LA. Doesn't anyone else get a little confused at the level of hype on here about something only a tiny percentage of gamers will ever really hear about never mind care about?

Shang-Long5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

nope all of these were expected anyways

I hope it is option #1 and they are trying to lighten the load to bring out the big guns....even though I am not sure what could be bigger then the announcements of those games....

I guess only time will tell...can't wait for E3

jmare5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Last year, everything they had to announce was spoiled by leaks. Also, I think that they are saving some big surprises still. Especially if most/some of the games announced recently are due out this year (and actually make it out). Also, they have been quiet on The Last Guardian. Hopefully it makes it's presence known with a Q3 release date. It's also possible that the PSP2 is real, and Sony learned from last year to keep it quiet.

Off topic: What the hell happened with the bubble system? Almost everybody has four now. WTF?

dizzleK5066d ago

no, all eyes are on them now. every week for the past month or more has been sony, sony, sony. ms is going to need some really impressive shit to dull sony's impact in alot of gamers eyes. they utterly cut ms off at the knees imo.

deadreckoning6665066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

"ms is going to need some really impressive shit to dull sony's impact in alot of gamers eyes."

By alot of gamers u mean the "gamers" on N4G right? The truth of the matter is that most gamers out there don't even know what E3 is and in their eyes the Wii Fit and Modern Warfare are the two best games ever made. Not everyone trolls the net for game info. Casuals make up the majority of the gaming community and they're most definetly not talking about KZ3, Motorstorm 3, or Infamous 2.

EDIT: Why the disagrees? Its true, most gamers DON'T know what E3 is. So what. Whats the big deal?

IRetrouk5066d ago

if most gamers dont know about e3 then how are they gamers thats like saying someones a fisherman without actually fishing. iv known about e3 since i was about 12, before an internet connection was in my house, so i think more gamers know about e3 then people that dont. i suppose those same people that arnt talking about killzone lbp and infamous 2 are talking about reach?

wiggles5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

As I kept reading these articles I was like ohh inFamous 2? okay...checked...oh Killzone 3 check?...oh Motorstorm.....ummm..lol.

But then I got the feeling of Sony is announcing all of these things when it is normal for the big 3 to save these for the show...

makes a person excited to see what they are coming with..

Edit: Damn can't delete accidental new post not where I wanted it to be :(

NYC_Gamer5066d ago

i'm sure sony has some goodies left for e3...

k-Lan5066d ago

With MS and Nintendo as their competition, i would hope they kept something nice for their fans besides the motion and 3D stuff.

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood8h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.
