Kotaku writes: "Virtual world creator Linden Labs is restructuring in an effort to "generate efficiencies and support investment in new platforms." The quick translation on that into English is that the Second Life maker is canning 30% of its workers.
According to the company, that restructuring will mean a consolidation of some internal divisions and a Second Life that's 'simpler, more enjoyable, relevant and engaging for consumers starting with their first experience.'"
VRFocus reports on Linden Lab the creator of Second Life, has invited a select amount of developers to help test its newest platform Project Sansar.
If there's an opportune time for him to boast about Linden Lab's experience building virtual worlds, it's now: Facebook's acquisition of Oculus VR has driven the concept of virtual reality back into the public consciousness. In fact, a beta version of Second Life that supports the Oculus Rift is available for users to test right now. But despite this, Altberg seems cautious about relying on VR as a lure to draw new users to Second Life's world.
Second Life could be on its way to consoles as a job listing appears on Gamasutra.
Linden Labs is after a development manager to work on "multiple platforms". The position is for their San Fransisco based offices. This could be for a new IP however there has been no such word from Linden Labs on any new games in the works.
Could Linden Labs be getting ready to port their world famous Second Life to next gen consoles?
Getting lost in fictional worlds is already a second life. I don't need a third one.
