Pocket Gamer Interview: Turtle Rock Studios's Chris Ashton on trading zombies for sheep

Pocket Gamer:

Turtle Rock Studios will be a familiar name to PC players: the studio is well-known for its collaborations with Valve on the Counter-Strike and Left 4 Dead franchises. But iPhone owners are likely less au fait with the developer (despite Meridian’s efforts to repackage Left 4 Dead’s core mechanics in the cheekily named, Alive 4-Ever).

This may be about to change, as Turtle Rock has set up a new subsidiary, Turtle Rock Garage, which will focus on casual and experimental games for the iPhone and iPad.

Its first effort, Leap Sheep!, has now been released on the App Store. We decided to have a chat with design director Chris Ashton about entering the casual market, encouraging talent from within, and Scrabble.

Report: Back 4 Blood 2 in Development Under Codename "Gobi 2"

I never understood gamers mindset when it comes to this.
Am I suppose to just keep playing L4d2?

Like why does it matter if there is a better one?
We will never get a better version of anything if they don’t try.

IAMRealHooman191d ago (Edited 191d ago )

they did try, and the older game was more feature complete, has more depth, and better replayability.
They didn't evolve the formula they regressed, look up Crowbcat back4blood vs l4d

Okay cool.
Is that how you go about life?
“Oh I tried once didn’t work out, I’ll give up.”
We wouldn’t get anywhere if people had that mindset.

The idea of one thing is better so no one else try it is crazy to me.

Helldivers 2
Deep rock galactic
Vermintide 1 & 2
Payday 2
Space marine 2
World war Z
Are evolutions of the formula and harkin to the ideology that made l4d popular

back 4 blood fell short, and was panned by players. This is also the dev's 2nd attempt at using their name as the devs of L4D as recognition, Evolve was their other.

Devs can learn from their prior work to make better games in the future

I lost faith in TRS ages ago

Get rid of the stupid card system for starters and just stick to four characters so you can develop them fully

No one has every beaten the original L4D survivors from the first game

MadLad1257d ago

Welp; as much as I love the game, I lost all hope for the long term future of Back 4 Blood when it comes to how we recieve new content, or even are mechanics will work.
