Red Dead Redemption DLC To Feature John's Past?

That's the one thing I didn't like about the main story of RDR. From the time that John was reunited with his family to the end, you really don't care for his family.

If they would have had some contact during the game, just a little bit, maybe some flashbacks, that part of the main story and even the ending would have meant a lot more to me.

Massively disagree. The ending was beautiful, and I thought it was so brave to have those missions on the farm - sure, they weren't action packed, but they showed off the broken and struggling family perfectly - it added so much to the narrative.

Don't get me wrong..I LOVED the ending. But the whole family part was very "detached" for me.

I couldn't feel anything for the his wife and kid because I knew nothing really about them, and hadn't seen them the entire game.

I felt more for Bonnie McFarlane than I did for his wife and girly son.

I do see what your saying. But Rockstar make that section shorter because they didn't want people who just played for the shooting to get bored. I too would have loved more interaction, but those precious few mission you did get were very well done. Overall ,I thought it added something to Jack - you never really knew John or Abigail, because Jack never really knew them, as they were always away. When they die, the player become Jack in more ways than one - you're confused, without a purpose, just seeking a revenge that, when it comes, kind of leaves you feeling a bit hollow.

It felt a bit strange and suspiscious to do these "normal" missions and then the John Marston went out with a bang. I liked it a lot even if it was a sad ending.

And the secret ending took me by surprise really. I didn't think we'd be playing as his son after you finish the main story. Although, I wanted the faceoff with Edgar Ross to be a bit more epic. I wasn't satisfied so I shot his dead body like 10 times after the credits lol

SPOILER I agree with you completely. The entire game you're fighting to get your family back and when you finally do it just feels wrong. Finding out his wife was a whore was really a disappointment and made me think less of Marston. And his son was a little prick. He goes to hell and back for them and he just gets treated like garbage when they finally reunite. His death for his family felt empty and pointless. It was epic and I did enjoy the end of Marston, but I thought it was for the wrong reasons. If his family was actually appreciative then I'd feel differently. But the wife was a b*tch and his son was a d*ck.

I would love some story-based DLC for the game, or even something along the lines of the GTA IV episodic content, but all set in John's older life so we can really know him as a character.

But the short film, god kill me now. I don't know what happened, it could've been great but while some of the directing was cool, everything else was pretty terrible, only because they skipped over important parts and played around with the continuity of the story, and they even censored some words with extra (not present in the game) dialogue that you can't even see the characters saying, which looks pretty terrible. The whole thing felt like there wasn't anyone who really cared about the source material on the project.

Yeah the ending was not great. Not only do you not get to kill the main baddie, Dutch, but then you spend 8 missions doing chores on a ranch, then you get killed, then you have to play as his awful son.

The kid sounded terrible and looked really weird. They took a risk, and I dont think it was a total failure, but it could have been better. I wanted the son to be angry, I wanted to feel it, I didnt feel anything with him.

I agree with both of you with regards to certain points.

I thought the ending was brilliant and well-thought out, even though it felt kinda sad. It had the perfect ending of how a Western movie should end - the main character gets shot down and killed in a blaze of glory, just as it happens in most classic Western action movies.

I kinda see what OSU__Gamer is saying. I did'nt feel too much for John Marston's wife and son, simply because I did'nt really know them because we hardly saw them for most part of the game. But I did like the part where John Marston attempts to bond with his son again by teaching him how to survive on the frontier, most men and teenagers can relate to that whole father-son thing. I did'nt find anything wrong with his son's voice tho, that was fine, he was still young. However I felt a lot more feelings and emotions for Bonnie McFarland more than anyone else in the game lol - especially at the cut-scene where you see an indication of her feeling a bit jealous after she continues to watch Marston and his wife leave her ranch on a cart after buying some of her cattle. She clearly looked attracted to him and it was plain to see in that scene that she wished she were the one to be his wife. I was hoping at the end that Marston would get with Bonnie in the end or at the very least I hoped he'd get the chance to give Bonnie a good bang, but it did'nt work out that way, oh well!

@ Eamon - LOL I did the same thing - I was so pent-up with revenge that I shot Edgar Ross's body like 10 times, even after I killed him. I shot his face so many times that it was no longer recgonizable. I even shot Edgar Ross's brother in the head and killed him right after he told me where to find Edgar ! I did'nt kill his wife tho, she seemed like a sweet lady.

I want this DLC to be about John Marston's son and the adventures he gets up to, that would be interesting. I don't really like the idea of goin backwards, a new story with his son would be very good idea in my view.

But those scenes could also be something that was removed from the game due to space or whatever.

That said RDR is a fantastic game and if I had my druthers for the DLC I'd much rather play as John than Jack.
