Gran Turismo 5’s Menus, UI, Driver Names & Gameplay

PSUNI: A Gran Turismo 5 release date will be making its way to our screens this E3. That’s a fact. Whether it’ll stick is be another question, but we sure hope so. What we really want to know about the game is its ins-and-outs. How many tracks actually are there? Will all cars have a damage model? The Polyphony Digital and Sony press team hasn’t done the best job at making these metrics clear. We can’t promise any of these details in this little article, but with the latest footage, we can give you more than just gameplay.

This is one hell of a game! Pre-ordering this!

Michael-Jackson3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

I'm gonna wait for a Wheel bundle to be announced, it's likely.

gamelova3054d ago

I had an orgasm watching this, this is the first GT game I buy with the wheel, I'm hoping I can find one for around a hundred bucks.

beardpapa3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

after staring at the video for quite some time, ignoring everything else, and then after awhile completely forgetting I was watching a video of GT5, I fell into this illusion that I was watching a real cam video of someone driving on the green hell. Then after coming out of the trance, I remembered I was watching a video of GT5.

That sense of speed and lighting are amazing.

di0medes3054d ago

I'm getting the G27 wheel just for this game. Couldn't be more excited. Anyone know of any pre-order bonuses for GT5 or is it still too early?

thebudgetgamer3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

http://www.gtplanet.net/gra...

this one is from the ps blog, pretty much the same.

http://blog.us.playstation....

TheBest3054d ago

They're both for GT PSP :/

GT5 won't have any pre-order bonuses at least until it's announced!

ShinMaster3054d ago

That was for PSP dude. Not PS3.

AuToFiRE3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

the g27 is one hell of a racing wheel, its got a hell of a lot of weight behind it, just make sure you have something you can attach it to, its not something you put between your legs

Spydr073054d ago

Is there a between your legs wheel?

Ilikegames763054d ago

something that might interest all the GT5 fans. http://www.apiga.com.hk/

Bathyj3054d ago

I have a G25 and its awesome. I going to build a whole steering collumn to clamp it too so I can sit back in my lazyboy and drive in style.

AuToFiRE3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

that is sexy, wish i had the money.

@2.2.2

there are some between the legs racing wheels but they are very cheap and designed for kids, but if you have atable (even just build one) that is less than 1.5 inches thick you will be just fine, just make sure it has no bottom part to it so you can use the carpet gripper on the bottom of it

anyway, im out of posts, so if you want to know more about the g25/g27 pm me and i will tell you about it since i own one, or if you like you can give me some bubbles and let me speak.. gah 3 bubbles isnt enough to start off with

I've heard the G25 is better than G27, I don't know what are the differences.

Oner3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

G25 Has straight cut gears so it's a bit louder

G27 has helical cut gears so it's a bit quiter

G25 has optional sequential stick that can be changed on the fly

G27 has removed the optional sequential stick

G25 has only 2 face buttons on wheel

G27 has 6 face buttons on wheel

G25 has non adjustable pedals

G27 has slightly adjustable pedals

G25 is cheaper (if you can find one)

G27 is more expensive

In my opinion (and why I didn't upgrade) the G27 is just an incremental upgrade and more of an evolution than revolution. Save the money, get a G25 and use the savings to put towards a chassis or something similarly useful. Here's mine in my old apartment ~

that we still dont have a nascar game with a full field of online players. its 2010 we have games with 256 players on a console!

Faztkiller3054d ago

That and no splitscreen in season mode

waterboy3054d ago

thats why theres 256 players

lpfisher3054d ago

MAG would like to speak with you.

AuToFiRE3054d ago

the PS3 isnt a console, its a super computer capable of time travel

bnaked3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

OMG that's not the final menu layout! It's just a demo!

MaximusPrime3054d ago

yea its a demo alright. looks pretty good.

If they bring out demo with thatNurburgring. Then im very happy to play that while waiting for full game.

knightdarkbox3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

PD its taking too long for GT5, if you compare it to the normal 2 year cycle. 5 years is 2.5 times as long as normal.

turn 10 has released 2 full games in that time & will be 1/2 way through their next game.

Dnied3054d ago

Yeah, and compare the quality of those to GT5

jus sayin'

-Alpha3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

To be fair many quality games have come out in less time than that of GT5. That's not to say GT5 is slow, but we should not be expecting more time to equal more chance of perfection. Look at Alan Wake in that case. And that's not to say GT5 will be like Alan Wake, but people are expecting for GT5 to practically get 10/10 from every site. And I think that sort of hype is unrealistic. The game will be great from the looks of things, but like usual people will get caught up in the arbitrary numerical values of scores.

I think it's more of a problem with when it was announced. Since Sony announced it so early and kept pushing the date, rumors, etc. it ended up feeling like it was stringing gamers along, and some people just get impatient. However, I can see how much work has gone into this game. I myself have developed an interest in it, though I generally lack an interest in the sport/cars.

Let's not take anything away from Forza, it has a very high standing on sites like Metacritic. The comparison is inevitable but I applaud Forza for releasing two highly critical games in such a short time. It's good to see the competition of these two franchises, it's healthy. We probably wouldn't have GT5 be the game it is today if it wasn't for some influence by Forza.

And in regards to this video I love how slick the presentation of the game is. It looks very cool and sophisticated. I feel that a lot of the hardcore RACING fans compare these two games in terms of realism. However, I think they make a small percent of this Forza/GT mini-war. I find that a lot of people who fight this battle are siding with whatever game just because it falls under the bigger PS3/360 war and they side with whatever game the console they support is on. I've funnily never seen any serious comparisons or discussion over the games. Rather, I see PS3 fans talk about graphics and 360 fans talk about how Forza is the more relevant racing game. They seem to be games used to justify the characteristics of the consoles rather than being compared for the actual standards this genre has (realism, physics, cars, damage, graphics, etc). But that's just what I notice, I'm no real fan of the genre anyway.

Dnied3054d ago

I agree with what you're saying, but on the other hand, while Forza is still a great game in its own right (especially the community / livery features) I still can't help but feel bitter towards Turn 10.. how they reacted when GT5 was brought up in interviews etc.. just a bit of a turn off.

When I say compare quality I wasn't actually implying the differences between what each console were capable of, I was talking just attention to detail by the developers. That said, I'm sure you can easily claim Turn 10 was limited due to the hardware they work on vs PD's blu ray + ps3 combo, but I still feel PD has that will, passion and dedication to create in there mind, the perfect game regardless of the competition.

I on the other hand am a big fan of racing sims.. I wish GT5 was out but I'm sort of in a position where I'm happy with what I have right now and don't mind waiting for PD. Based on their track record, GT5 probably WILL get 10/10 from every site and if this is the amount of time they need to feel proud of their own product, they should take it

DamonTheMoney3054d ago

You're right, but I don't think anybody cares that much really :/ they're just videogames

get a job

lpfisher3054d ago

I bought my PS3 for this, Killzone, and God Of War. Two of those needs have been met, lets go Polyphony!

blumatt3054d ago

Exactly man. People get entirely too heated about it. With that said, I can't wait to play GT5. I may get a wheel for it myself. I didn't know you were on this site too. I'm used to seeing you on dlb-network.com DLB needs to keep his podcasts up more regularly.

PSN: blumatt

DamonTheMoney3054d ago

Yeah man, people need to take everything in the gaming world less seriously - it's been said thousands of times by so many people, but it still rings true.

But with that said, I'm still eagerly awaiting for my copy of GT5! Hopefully my old PS2 wheel will work with the game, if I can find it that is lol. I didn't know you were on here either aha. I haven't been back to the DLB-network recently, I'm still a big fan of the podcast but since they seemed to have stopped I haven't really felt anything else pulling me back.
But hit me up sometime blumatt on PSN :)

blumatt3054d ago

I'll invite you sometime when I'm playing Cod4. I sold MW2 awhile back since it felt like a step back from Cod4. I don't think I'll ever let go of my Cod4 copy. I also just picked up Modnation. Very, very fun game.

TheBest3054d ago

Perfection takes time, half baked sequels take 2 years or less it seems.

Also, I guess by that logic the following games are taking or have taken too long as well:

Test Drive Unlimited 2 (4 years in development)
Blur (3 years in development)
Mario Kart sequel
Any hardcore racing sims (have been on the market for years now)

lpfisher3054d ago

I don't think people understand how much detail goes into the 1000 cars included on-disk. There's a lot. Plus standard development time, updating the engine, developing an online structure. They had a lot on their plates.

Greywulf3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

8 low polygon cars max compared..
low polygon cockpits..that are tinted while in-game to not stress the 360.
low quality track detail that disappears
low quality lighting
low quality screen captures & race captures..
little to no particle fx
little to no new features in F3 that weren't in F2 outside of Tiresquash.. & rewind..

Forza's greatest thing is the storefront, which was there in f1&f2. Can't really pat turn10 on the back for adding more filters for F3.

vs

3d, 1000 cars, fully detailed, animated spoilers/drivers, 1080p, night, nascar, wrc, open wheel, 16 on a grid, and it looks closest to photo realistic than any sim out.

Yeah, Turn10 can keep rushing out their 1.5 upgrades to sell less than GT's prologue all they want, but Polyphony takes time and it shows. Its not like the bar is the same for Turn10 and polyphony. Polyphony is raising the bar, Turn10 hasn't raised anything with F3.

and lets not forget that Polyphony made a new engine from scratch, released a prologue and a psp game, and designed a super car.

You can't even race on nurburgring more than 2 laps in f3. And thats a full game..

Ilikegames763054d ago

you're a young gamer if you want to compare Forza to GT in terms of development time. GT series have always had a long development time. 5+ years is the normal time for GT series and it shows in the quality of the game. Gran Turismo is for the car enthusiast gamers and not for the casual gamers. GT is on a different level and to compare it to Forza is like comparing a steak (GT) to a hamburger (Forza).

pinkyxyz3054d ago

But as for the analogy, I'll take a double whopper with cheese over a steak anyday :)

beardpapa3054d ago

Granted F3 was a good game, it wasn't leaps and bounds greater than F2. The evolution from F2 to F3 is similar to Halo 3 to ODST.

But going from GT4 to GT5 on the other hand is quite the evolution we expect from a PS2 game to the PS3. It's taking long for GT5 to come out indeed, but it looks far better than if it had come out years ago as GT4 HD or GT5p.

Kaz is gonna be a sad father when he lets his baby out into the real world.

Chubear3054d ago

you guys keep talking like the PS3 base have been lacking racing sims and dependent on only GT5 for their fix.

The PS3 has over 4 racing sims on the market, more than any console, but GT5 is the Grand Big Papa of Racing sims on consoles so we understand it'll take it's time to do what it does best.

It would only suck if the PS3 had no other true exclusives for their fanbase, in the genre or otherwise, and that's far from happening lol

Lou-Cipher3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

A 2 year development cycle is OK for a last gen arcade style racing game with a small amount of content. A Real Driving Sim takes time to get right.

If Forza 3 had over 1000 highly detailed cars/7.1 True HD Sound/1080p Visuals/3D enabled/Day & Night cycles/and a developer that gave a $hit about his game more than he cares about tricking his consumers into believing his game is definitive, then Forza would take 5+ years too.

Forza 3 was a OK game, but lets face it, It's only an appetizer before the main course.

Strikepackage Bravo3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

You guys are such a bunch of fanboys LOL! How many of you have even played Forza III, cuz I know pretty much none of you have played GT5.

Both Forza and GT5 will be great games, one is not miles better than the other. Forza has a few qualities that are more realistic, like sound, physics, AI, and damage. Gt5 has a few that are more realistic, like lighting, night and day racing and moving spoilers.

However, Forza goes beyond the stalemate and has outstanding customization to the cars, an awesome community, and a more diverse range of cars, not just a thousand Nissans. So give me a break, the two are dam near equal, and if one is to be called better it should be forza, the customization is practically a game all on its own in Forza, not one of the cars in my Forza garage has factory rims, tires or ground clearance LOL, it really is mind boggling.

IRetrouk3054d ago (Edited 3054d ago )

"a more diverse range of cars, not just a thousand Nissans"

So you have seen the final list of cars for GT5?, How can a game with 400 cars have a more diverse range than one with 1000 cars? Oh and the physics in forza 3 were nothing to write home about or the damage.

oh and nobody seems to know this but Forza3 poly count per car= 240,000
GT5 poly count per car= over 500,000..

MaximusPrime3054d ago

who wants Turn10's forza?
