I always knew if the story couldn't hold together I could at least expect the gameplay to. But even in that too many mistakes have been made, too many decisions I can't understand.

It's a reasonably decent experience, but Metal Gear is a name that for myself has always strived (and gloriously achieved) to be better than that. It's too flawed and absolutely not suited for the platform.

I always look forward to every single replay of every single Metal Gear game, from the original Metal Gear to yes even Portable Ops, upon completing this game I've absolutely no desire to replay it, and that's the single most damning thing I can say about it."

This review is bogus. He seems to be reviewing it as if it was meant to be a console game (premonition: MG Rising gets a 9/10 or higher from this source...)

MGS: Peace Walker is one of the best handheld games out there, and it really is "Metal Gear Solid 5" like Kojima said it would be. It is a fantastic game and a MUST-PLAY for ANY fan of the MGS series.

i have played the game and it was great, so much content, the boss fights, micro mangement, weapon levelling, and weird balloon recruiting and you just know quality when you see it. Haven t tried coop though and i'm still satisfied with the game, rating it as 9/10.

Dogshit stupid might, and that's what you are Splinter, don't treat it like a console game when everyone and their mother who's ever played and followed the franchise knows this was not supposed to triumph MGS4 but is a sequel of sorts. So please do yourself a favor, go back to step one, play it again and do a proper review next time.

Its funny. Instead of stating reasons why the review is faulty...they just call it lame without any reasoning whatsoever.

@Silkrevolver- Whats wrong with trying to get hits? If you don't want hits, why have a videogame website? If no one wanted hits, why was youtube created? This ONE particular critic felt it was a 6/10 and he is entitled to his opinion. When people call another person lame for simply having an opinion...at the very least, they should back it up with some evidence instead of repeating "LAME.LAME.LAME" like a mindless drone.

Judging by metacritic 88/100 this review is way off. I'm buying the game while I'll do my best to stay away from Gameshard reviews.

Game is 40+ hours (on a fuckin portable device) and you have Lifespan score set to 6/10. Laughable.

The "40+ hours on a psp" should automatically be scored 8/10 then judge the rest of the game. imo.

Some people may not have understand what I meant. It is amazing that the devs are able to put 40+ hours into a portable device. And in my eyes/mind any dev that are able to do that deserves in automatic 8/10 for overall then judge the story, and gameplay, etc which will determine if it ups the score or lowers it.

The amount of time it takes to beat a game doesn't at all factor into the quality. I think the game is great, but I wouldn't automatically give a game an 8 because it was long. If we went by your logic, then developers would just make their games really long without any other thought and receive 8s on a crappy game.

Honestly the difficulty of the boss encounters, not adjusting for solo play, is kinda off-putting.

Still, a 6/10 is abysmally low for what is otherwise a great game. I found DMC3 to be too hard to truly be fun, but that didn't stop it from being a great game for many. 6/10 is basically saying "even if you're a better gamer than I, this game is meh", and I think in this situation, that's probably *not* the case.

so the game is a must buy, beside how could you give this score for one of the best stealth game with a campaign of up to 40-hours on a handheld and with co-op, and has some great bit from each of the MGS games which in itself make it a must buy,,

Look, I'm an obsessive Metal Gear fan I really am. I cherish MGS4 than most other games in existence, but the series should of ended there. It was fitting swan song to the great series.

So two years later we get an artificial extension of that saga and it just let me down. Very badly. To me the words 'Metal Gear Solid' mean so much more than a game, that game has to live up to the promise of all the previous titles in that series. Kojima has set his bar so high that his new titles pretty much have to be godlike now, anything less is just not good enough. That and the game isn't suited to the hardware at all, hence the mission and boss length. It should of been a PSN/Live title, not something that misleads you to the fact that you could have a quick go on the bus.

And please, Peace Walker might well last someone 40+ hours, but the story missions certainly don't last 10 if you know what you are doing, the rest of those hours are mission repetition and grinding for new soldiers.

It's opinion, don't let it bother you so much.

I gave Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation a 10, Metal Gear Solid 2 a 10, Metal Gear Solid 3 a 10, Twin Snakes a 9, Portable Ops an 8, Metal Gear Acids 1 + 2 both 8's and Metal Gear Solid 4 a 10.

I would of given it a 7 had it not been for the dreadfully unbalanced fight against the last boss.

In fairness, its sort of our policy to defend our scores. Like you said, it *is* just an opinion. But its a valid opinion, formed from facts that TyranT used to back up the final score in his review.

I note that most of the critical comments on here don't actually have any constructive criticism of the review itself, they just disagree with the score.
