1.90 PS3 Firmware Update Hits Japan

Like most of the time, Japan gets it first, and we can only wait.

• Ability to rearrange games on the XMB
• Option menu now includes "eject disk"
• Press triangle to eject games/CDs/movies in the XMB

keep it rolling. I hope they add a 'change audio options' option whilst in-game. Its a problem when you've loaded a game to find theres no sound because its set to optical out not hdmi. I dont use my amp all the time so this option would come in handy.

I agree, I also want audio options while playing games or movies.
I also have a question about RFoM. Under audio options I have everything ticked (DD5.1), but when playing RFoM with those settings I get no sound, even though the package says RFoM supports DD5.1. All my other games work fine in DD5.1, so I got no clue why RFoM won't play DD5.1. It really does suck

Are you nuts? The XMB sucks compared to the 360 Interface. Im sorry, its all a matter of preference and I guess I shouldn't jumped out at you like that. But I own both systems and personally the 360 interface is better laid out than the ps3's.

---Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz- This means they might have added upsampling capabilities to cd output - abit like 480p video upscaled to 1080p video but for audio (takes CD rate of 44.1 KHz can resample and output at 88.2 or 176.4KHz ) this feature is usually found on expensive cd/sacd players costing twice or more of a what a PS3 costs.

Here's to hoping for universal in-game XMB in 2.0.

The updates in 1.9 are nice though. Being able to re-arrange games on the XMB is a VERY nice touch. Hopefully 2.0 will allow for grouping (Downloaded games, Demo's, group by genre, etc.)

I'm glad to see that Sony is actually making the PS3 firmware updates worth downloading (unlike all of the "security enhancement only" PSP firmware updates)

The disk ejecting thing will be great, now if only i could get the controller to grow arms and put a different disk in... or put a disk changer in the PS3..... that would be great!

I hate rubbing my finger over the eject button some times then my nail will occasionally scratch the disk when it comes out. Great feature ^^ if you can do this in game... i smell glitches!!(socom)!!!!!

Now if only we could also get custom sound tracks, and play videos in game, like have a little window so we can watch youtube videos while playing a game, like walk-throughs or how to do this glitch etc, it'd be nice :) split screen! one for the game one for the video!

Also what'd be nice is to be able to make your own maps like in RFoM and put the pics on your hard drive as posters on the wall...... wait.... then no little kids could come in my room.... meh oh well ^^

Not being able to change the game order or the XMB backround have been pet peeves of mine for awhile. Especially when you got stuck on the pink backround month. One thing I don't get tho, why would they release firmware in different regions at different times? I'm not getting the logic.

Other than those two things, everything else is like icing on the cake. I just wish they would release those two options already because then I would probably stop thinking of updates as something I deserve, and start thinking of them more as a present.

I'm happy with the background wallpapers and editing video settings/upscaling mid-game. Still waiting for the music playlists (could folder classification have anything to do with this?) and codecs (still don't feel like converting 275 gigs of video to mp4).

Honest question for the PS3 owners. I am getting my PS3 in about a month and I know as soon as I plug it in, it will take a while for the updates. My question is how many updates have there been total and probably how long will it take for the machine to update?

the update time should be as long as the older firmware updates because the newest firmware overwrites the old firmware.

I don't think it's the kind of thing where you have to download each update individually. I think that if one had a launch system, and hooked it up now for the first time, you'd still just have one update (i.e. I think they build upon each other and carry previous changes). They don't take long at all, just a few minutes.

If you are definately getting a PS3 in a month or so, just download the latest update from the Playstation site, put it on a memory stick then install it from there when you get the PS3. It's a lot quicker.

Afterall the PS3 has the option when updating to update 'Via Internet' or 'via memory stick'.

As for the actual release I would have thought the European and US firmware release date will be the same as R:FoM can be played worldwide now so especially for the chat options I would expect a simultaneous release date.
