Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is really aiming to be something special. While some negative nelly’s have already called bullshot on these new Titan screens; Producer David Cox is saying it’s all real time.

These shots look good, but history has shown that bullshots are far more common than real screenshots when it comes to many games this gen (Gears, Forza, etc)

raztad5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

I'm gonna say it. Dont get your expectations too high on this game. It's not gonna look anywhere close to GoW3.

That said, I love how the game is shaping. It seems to be taking cue (lets call this "inspiration") from Shadow of the Colossi, GoW3 combat mechanic and even UC2 platforming. If done well could be a great game.

El_Colombiano5065d ago

"Shadow of the Colossi"

I lol'd.

Aphe5065d ago

Always cracks me up that games are compared just for similarities to GOW. GOW wasn't the first game with hack and slash settings, so why compare? Is every game with those settings going to be compared to GOW?

It wasn't the first to have those gameplay mechanics and it seems that every game that even hints at being in the same genre gets slapped down just because it has similarities to GOW.

Castlevania was a hack and slash long before GOW was a blink in David Jaffes eye.

From what I've seen it looks pretty bloody good.

Proxy5065d ago

I think it's because this game is multiplatform. Multiplatform games always have smaller enemies then PS3 exclusives. And the size of your enemies is all that matters.

Didn't you know?

raztad5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

@Aphe

Which what game do you want me to compare Gears of War?

Please dude be real. I dont care which was the first h'n's ever, I just care about the h'n's that is currently defining the genre, and GoW is THAT game. Sorry if it bother you.

BTW, I do agree LoS looks good. Here is an old trailer to refresh memories:

http://www.gametrailers.com...

It looks like they are aiming for a GoW-like cinematic gameplay. Loving it.

indeed lead which will benefit both PS3 and X360 users as they'll get a better experience.

Bigpappy5065d ago

I don't know of any game that lead on the PS3 which made the game better. FF13 sure is not a good example. Neither is Virtua Fighter or Tekken.

popup5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

Although not strictly leading on PS3, A couple of devs have spoken out about the benefits of coding from the PS3's very much required parallel perspective for performance on the platform and how it made them look at further optimizations in their 360 code that otherwise would have gone missed.

Burnout Paradise was an early example of this being mentioned (and that was lead) and more recently, Blur.

..A quote from the recent Blur interview on Digital Foundry ( http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

.."Designing for the SPUs also has the pleasant side effect of increasing performance on our other target hardware since it will typically mean giving a lot of thought to patterns of memory access and parallelism, which are the most critical factors in getting good CPU performance on current-gen hardware."

but no doubt trolls will use it store shit up

Fishy Fingers5065d ago

I wouldnt of doubt it, they look great but not anything I believe couldnt be done in real time.

NecrumSlavery5065d ago

Well the trailers looked nice. But I want to see it in motion. GOW3 has the most fluid and epic battles in any game. LoC needs a miracle and a scale a mountain higher to even break even with GOW3

" David Cox is saying the new Titan screens it’s all real time "
If i didn't play god of war or shadow of the colossus i would be impressed .

bjornbear5065d ago

'sactly

late to the party! but still fair enough might turn out to be an AWESOME game =D

Although being linear, which I wish it wasn't, the first game was absolutely incredible. A mix of old school God of War meets Date's Inferno; I was highly impressed by this title. I heard the sequel was trash so I ever played it but I think LoS was a good example of how a 3D CV game could be.

rgraf771291d ago (Edited 1291d ago )

I was very happy the game was Linear as I hate exploring. The first game was one of my all time favorites and the 2nd game was a total letdown with the lame hub system and stealth sections. Playing in current times sucked too. I wish they would make a remaster of part 1.

magdiellima1291d ago

Good as a game but terrible as a Castlevania. The sequence was even worse.

Terry_B1291d ago

It is a great game, but just like DMC is not a Devil May Cry..this one was not a Castlevania :-)

FreeckyCake1290d ago

Give Castlevania to Igarashi team, and they will nail it as they did with Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness.

Terrifyingly Bad: A Look Back At the 3D Castlevania Games

If you decide to play a Castlevania game, make sure it's in 2D. Unfortunately, the series has never been able to make the jump from 2D to 3D successfully. Publisher Konami has tried. Six times in fact, but whether trying to build it in-house or with a third party developer, they never captured the essence of the series or make a good game for that matter. So just to be sure you know what to look out for, here are the six 3D Castlevania games that have been made.

isarai1648d ago

I loved the hell out of lords of shadow, lords if shadow 2 had its moments but just didnt leave as much of an impact on me as the first did, still loved it though. They are both great games IMO, maybe not the best "Castlevania" games but great games in their own right.

RememberThe3571647d ago

Yeah that first game was legit good. Really wish they hadn't taken a step back for the second, this series really looked great in 3D.

AK911647d ago (Edited 1647d ago )

According to one of the former devs of Mercury Steam the higher ups kept interfering with the sequel to the point where the game was nothing like what the dev team had envisioned for the sequel so we got the mess that was Lords of Shadows 2.

PhoenixUp1648d ago

I enjoyed Lament of Innocence and Lords of Shadow. They were entertaining titles and I wouldn’t mind trying Lords of Shadow 2 on PS Now.

Just because a game isn’t GOTY worthy does not mean it’s not worth playing. You could do a lot worse than those exceptional titles.

Abcdefeg1647d ago

Curse of darkness was ahead of its time

Hedstrom1647d ago

I really liked lament of innocence and Lords of shadow! Havent tried the other 3d games. But ive played most of the 2d games!

gangsta_red1647d ago (Edited 1647d ago )

I don't know why Castlevania: Lament of Innocence gets a bad rap. It was one of the best in the series at that time and really was a compliment to the Devil May Cry 3rd person style of action that was getting popular at that time.

I rented it on a fluke and was seriously surprised on how good it was. So much so I went out and bought a used copy of Curse of Darkness and instantly returned that trash.

The problem with Nintendo 64 games is they all tried to mimic the Mario/Zelda 64 style of gameplay and how could they not with that whacky ass N64 controller. Almost every game outside of Nintendo's own felt horrible and incomplete.
