Top 10 Video Game Swords

If you're waiting for anything from World of Warcraft to appear in my top 10 articles, don't hold your breath...

Although I did consider the Sword of a Thousand Truths as an honorable mention.

And to those who like Soul Reaver, sorry, haven't played it myself, so I didn't think to include it. But Masamune? Or Pyramid Head? Trying to use some mainstream weapons people will have actually heard of...

I'm with a few other people on here. This doesn't quite seem to be a "most amazing swords" or "best swords" list, it's more like a "most popular swords" or "most well-known swords" list. Which is fine, but I don't agree that these are the best chosen or ranked properly by their power/usefulness, and the list is definitely missing some key stuff.

Hands down, The Dragonslayer ("Sword of the Berserk" on Dreamcast and "Berserk" on PS2) is probably one of, if not the largest and most devastating sword ever created and should be on the list at least somewhere. Frostmourne ("Warcraft" series on PC) should be on there regardless of your personal opinion about the games it's in, considering that it is such a key element in the game series' entire universe. In Deus Ex, one of the first "energy swords" was created called "The Dragon's Tooth Sword", which was both amazing and essential in the story, and really should be at the least an honorable mention.

There's also swords from the Ninja Gaiden series, Shinobi, Devil May Cry, Onimusha, other Final Fantasy titles, The Elder Scrolls series, The "Grandfather Sword" from Diablo 2, and a few others that should be looked into.

As for other thoughts, as much as I like Zelda and Soul Calibur, The Master Sword and Soul Edge I don't think should have been the top two swords by far. They are important to the list, but not top choices I believe.

Not First Person Stealth, or First Person Action. Why are there so many people on the internet that think any game in 1st-person view is automatically an FPS? Think things through, people.

And I said "THE" FPS gameplay because I was referring to the specific gameplay of the Halo series. It was the first time melee weapons were included in Halo. If I had meant the first time ever, I would have said "introduced to the FPS genre" or something of that nature.

And yes, Counter Strike kicks ass.

And anyway as others have pointed , there are other games ( knife in CS for ex ) where this applies as well ..

And finally my opinion ... that sword in halo was nothing spécial IMO ..

I'm not saying that there was a First Person Stealth genre, I'm saying Thief isn't a First Person Shooter.

But that really doesn't matter, because I never claimed it was the first melee weapon in any FPS, in the first place. You all just misread that sentence (I changed it btw to avoid confusion).

And the Energy Sword may not have had any special powers or anything, but as I said at the beginning, part of the ranking was based on popularity and how recognizable it is. And there's no denying that the Energy Sword is very well-known and recognizable, to omit it from the list would have been a bigger error in my opinion.

Meh, there's tons of swords that are far better them most on that list, in my opinion of course. Personally I don't think the Dagger of Time fits. It's a dagger (closer to a knife then a sword I think.)

Squall's Gunblade is an awesome weapon, and Cloud's First Tsurugi > everything on that list.

My list would probably go something like this:

Blazefire Saber/Axis Blade
Soul Reaver (Raziel version)
Z-Saber

What can I say, Square's artist know how to make excellent weapon designs. Anyways, that's my personal list.

Squall's Gunblade. Agreed. Otherwise, a fitting list. Halo haters will always say the Energy Sword isn't worthy... but they wouldn't be haters if they didn't say that, would they?

Plus, even if this is a "most famous swords" list- there'd be no way to make everyone happy even if it was a true "best swords list." Too many variances in opinion to recognize. This, like any editorial, is author's opinion. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Sword shouldve been in there. Halo sword shouldnt be in there just because its from a popular game doesnt make it a great sword lol.
