Looks good, interesting to know how its going to be structured be interesting to see how much freedom you can really have in a cityscape. Shame it wasn't vsyncd tho, pretty sure that was console footage.

Chris_TC5073d ago

It was also riddled with aliasing, yuck.

sutton325072d ago

yeah, i dno if it was me but there was shit loads of zcreen tearing

bnaked5073d ago

It's all 360 footage according to Crytek..

eggbert5072d ago

there are variations in graphics quality throughout the railer. I'm pretty sure they would aim for consistency when working on the graphics of a system.

orange-skittle5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

And how the f*ck do you know that? You were right there when they taped the show weren't you? Sit down somewhere and STFU you troll. Someone always has to console bash where it's not warranted.

The crappy graphic jungle gameplay they showed was Crysis, not Crysis 2. Crysis 2 is set in New York. Not only that, the developer said a long time ago that the PS3 gave them more wiggle room than the 360 and that consoles were inferior to their game. So, why would they display their beloved gem to the world on the "WEAKER" system? Does that make any sense? Not that I am saying it is, I am simply quoting what the developer said since he said the PS3 gave them a better medium to bring it closer to PC standards

heroprotagonist5073d ago

Hot damn! That looked awesome. Best graphics I have seen on consoles to date. I don't know though, Rage or Brink might surpass it. Who knows.

What I do know is that aside from the new Crysis 2 footage, Vanquish totally surprised me. It looks almost as good as Crysis 2 and pretty much better than most other shooters out there. It also looks insane and fresh in terms of gameplay.

sourav935073d ago

Well the graphics are really pretty but there are other contenders on consoles which may be on par or even surpass crysis 2, relating to the crysis 2 footage shown on gttv. Few examples are Uncharted 2, Gears of War 2, Heavy Rain, and Killzone 2. Crytek might as well improve the grahics aspect of the game if they want but I just can't wait to use the nanosuit! Its not always about graphics, but if this is the topic of discussion, crysis 2 has impressed, but not at a level at which games like Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, or Gears of war 2, which actually showed a significant jump in quality from previous games. I am not saying that crysis 2 hasn't got good graphics, they are indeed phenomenal, but its not as good as people were expecting, or at least as I was expecting. Nevertheless, its going to be a first day buy for me. Cheers

don't try to tear down his opinion of the graphics

finbars755072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Crysis2 does not look as good as they have been saying it does.I thought it was just mediocre and looked like any other game.Nothing stood out about this at all.Im sure on the PC it will look sick but on the console no way.Killzone 2 looked way better then that and I can only imagine what killzone 3 will look like.I do agree that vanquish doesnt look to shabby at all.But all in all the only people who will think crysis2 has the best graphics are the xbox fanboys because they havnt seen anything good in years that have good graphics period which is to bad.I think I will stick with killzone3 and Brink.Double toasted go back to your wii you retard.

NYPunk885072d ago

@Pistolero

This dude sad that Alan Wake had better graphics than Heavy Rain.....bwahahahahaha.....lay off the crack son.

gtamike5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Heavy Rain graphics are god like

Arnon5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Yeah, no. Crysis 2 DOES look superb. I can honestly say it does look better than a game like Killzone 2. Not to mention the environments are going to be what, 3x the size? And to top it all off, this was the 360 version, so yes, I feel that Crysis 2 is a better looking game.

thewhoopimen5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

I was surprised that particles still don't bounce in Crysis 2. When they showed footage of destroying the environment.... once again particles and debris just fall straight into the floor without any bounce physics. Haven't the Crysis developers already seen what Killzone 2 did with all the shells and bullet ricochets and explosion particles?

The splintering of the wood and stone looks great and there's definitely alot of particles in the air during firefights... but they all just fall into ground...

GVON5072d ago

I think it looks decent, but the sacrifices are obvious.

The main reason I think they went inner city was to accommodate the consoles, you dont really need to see that far away, but i'm surprised by how much fogging there is in the footage.

A city getting torn up is a good cover but it's got that nostalgic N64 feel in how they handle view distance. Not saying it's a Turok 2 pea soup levels, but it's a bit jarring since it's not really used on consoles anymore.

It's a good design choice, you'll get impressve looking blocks, but beyond that it'll probably look a bit off.

Game looks fun though.

MNicholas5072d ago

It's not even at the level of Uncharted 1.

It was also had no actual jump in graphics from Gears 1. It was all hype.

Gamespot did a nice screenshot comparison of Gears 1 and Gears 2 of the same locations and there were actually a number of downgrades!

gamer20105072d ago

I don't know what crack pipe you have been smoking but Gears 2 definitely looks better than Uncharted 1. I have compared them both on my own hdtv and I came away convinced that Gears 2 was the better looking game overall.

bill021385072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

@Gamer2010

Are you a fanboy or maybe you're playing at 480P? Uncharted blows away Gears. It doesn't even look like the same generation.

http://kineticninja.blogspo...

Gears 1 vs Gears 2 video shows how Gears 1 had much more next-gen features like bump maps and specular maps. Gears 1 also had much more environment detail. Pause at 40 seconds to see the massive downgrades side by side.

http://gamevideos.1up.com/v...

Gears 1 had more shader effects, more detailed buildings, more detailed cars, and more draw-distance. In the interior comparison, you can see how much more detail is in Gears 1. Even the furniture is more detailed. The couch and dresser are curved in Gears 1 (more polygons) but square in Gears 2 (polygon downgrade).

Parts of the gameplay spookily echoed the look of the FEAR 2 engine on the consoles, Certainly some of the enemy body armour, and some of the areas.

Its definitely the console version, just by comparison to the footage of the first crysis shown before. Dont get me wrong the graphics were good, but not mind blowing. The city just seems too plain to me. In the first crysis the setting added to the astonishment, knowing as i do how much more difficult it is to render organic environments well. There seems like an awful lot of identikit pavement textures and walls and the aforementioned FEAR esque environments, empty coffee bars etc. The lack of ultra quality motion blur i became accustomed too with the original- this really serves to change the look of the game to me. You can also see the polygon count is trimmed massively, not least of all hugely down to the city environment. Straight edges = easy to render. On the highest settings the GPU test on the first pushed 3 million polygons for several frames, which is mind boggling when you hear uncharted 2 pushes about 1 million, should give you an idea of the disparity having to be designed around for console. There isnt a great deal of any complex structures, which catch the eye. Its still relatively early though, there are a few months of dev time left.

The high points visually are without a doubt a lot of the lighting effects have been crammed in, the physics and most impressively for me, the smoke effects. Basic particle effects (explosions etc with a just two dozen or so sparks) arent very good, but the engine is already under load coping with the other physics tasks. Of course there are compromises but it seems they have struck a decent balance.

I still have a real fear that this game has been tailored so heavily to work on the consoles its at the expense of what PC can do. Nothing i have seen today allays that, some increases my worry. But we'll see soon enough, wont we?

iamgoatman5072d ago

"Shame it wasn't vsyncd tho"

The only tearing I noticed was when the character was being dragged to the helicopter, and I think the tearing was actually part of the effects.

Same thing happened in the first game when you were near an alien, screen would flicker and go a shade of blue. I think it's supposed to show your nano suit is on the fritz.

ProjectVulcan5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Nah, it definitely has no vsync in this build. The original crysis when it is shown here also does not have vsync enabled, so dont read into it too much. Doesnt mean the final version wont have it, crytek have already targeted the performance of '30 frames and nothing below that', according to Cervat Yerli. If it means locked and vsynced, then console owners should be happy enough.

It will be a surprise if a game where the developers constantly willy wave their graphical achievements on console do not have texture filtering, or anti aliasing, but especially v sync. Most of the other games held up as console graphical powerhouses manage two of these. The best manage all three....

MNicholas5072d ago

throughout the videos but I wouldn't read too much into it. This is likely just a result of the game being unfinished.

Hideo_Kojima5072d ago

I have been gaming for 10 years now but I never spot vsync issues... or screen tearing it was only recently that I googled to find out what they are but I still can't spot them in games.

Isn't it like when 1 frame is split in half how are you suppose to spot that?

ProjectVulcan5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Its not too difficult to understand. Simply put, the individual frames being delivered to the screen do not match the exact refresh rate, or timing, of the display itself, which is set.

So what happens is that the new frame half overwrites the previous frame, instead of updating perfectly synchronised and replacing the whole image at once. Of course if you happen to have moved the image sideways, as in looking left or right for example on a first person shooter, then the new frame is slightly shifted relative to the image in the previous frame. Where the two frames intersect you see the new frame on top and the old on the bottom, with mismatched image alignment. The frame is thus 'torn'. The intersect point is of course all down to how far off the timing is on the frame refresh.

What vsync does is make the output (the console, Pc whatever is rendering the image) WAIT until the display is ready to accept a full, complete new frame.

This is best employed with a technique called triple buffering, which effectively means you can always have a spare frame waiting in time to refresh. Problem is, this uses more a lot more framebuffer memory. Console memory is at a premium. So a lot of console games are double buffered with vsync which can really damage performance waiting for the next frame refresh, there isnt a frame on hand in time to replace the current 'front' (on screen) buffer. Forces the output to wait further until the next display refresh, slowing the overall framerate of the engine. Thus when the going gets really tough for the engine and the framerate starts to dip under load, many engines release the vsync to shore up performance, resulting in tearing....

TrailerParkSupervisr5072d ago

That looked pretty sick to me! Very crisp and whatnot and as for the tearing, they did it in the first one. It's your nanosuit going on the fritz. Also, I noticed a lot of destructible enviornments. People who ahve not played the first one don't realize how awesome the physics are, too. This clip did not do a lot of justice. I think this will be an epic game.

GVON5072d ago

yeah that sliding umbrella showed how good the physics are :) joking aside I know what you mean.

tinybigman5072d ago

i'll have to see more for it to raise my interest in it.

ForROME5072d ago

Fools, this game looks great, it easy to point out flaws, its harder to do it yourself, not to mention that fact that not many games are even in its circle, get off it

MNicholas5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

but doesn't have that "wow" factor. Technically speaking, some of the surfaces are nicely shaded while most others look a bit flat. Many environment textures (walls, ducts, etc.) are below par as well although ground textures are pretty good. The environment destruction doesn't blow the mind either with some physics bugs (such as spinning bushes, collision problems, unlimp dead people) that will surely be fixed by release. Jaggies are plentiful, which is a bid disappointing. However, the car and alien enemy models (the tall ones with the tendrils) are simply gorgeous. The smoke looks good as well.

Frankly, Vanquish, by far, looked like the most interesting and innovative of the games shown in the video.

muDD5072d ago

Kz2 does not look better than that... i have the game and all I see is 3 colors, no texures, and a ton of blur... Dont get me wrong, kz2 looks good, but u fanbois are OVERRATING this game... PERIOD!!!

nycredude5072d ago

Dude and all I saw in this vid is 2 colors blue and grey. WHat is your point. Killzone2 doesn't tear and DOES look better cause I say so and everyone else in the world is wrong! /s

Retards calling other fanboys yet is one himself. N4g at it's best.

BattleAxe5072d ago

At the end of the day, if Crysis 2 is good then I'll buy it. I didn't mind Crysis and Crysis Warhead on PC, but I hated Crysis Wars(online).

Hallmark Moment5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Amazing PS3 fans won't and will never admit that games like Rage, and crysis 2, Brink, Alan Wake have not surpassed PS3 exclusives of the past. It has nothing to do with a versus match. New engines and more experience will always produce better games. The real reason fanboys are having a fit is because the myth of the 360 being mazed out is starting to be exposed as a lie. I've have not seen anything that matches this ever! at least in the genre.

"FangBlade" is downplaying this game and praising Vanquish because the devs said PS3 was the lead for Vanquish and he knows the Crysis 2 devs have been showcasing Crysis 2 on the 360.

CWMR5072d ago

That's the way it's always been, man. The PS3 fanboys took Sony's word as the gospel truth, not realizing that Sony has used this tactic in the past. They always claim performance for their consoles that is not even close to the reality of what the consoles can actually do in the real world. They did it with the PS2 as well, but their lies never took hold because it was just too blatantly obvious that the Xbox was much, much more powerful than the PS2.

I have both consoles and I just laugh at the people that Sony has reeled in with their marketing talk. They ignore the fact that over 90% of multiplatform games look better on the 360. And no, it's not because the 360 is lead platform. It has been years and developers have had plenty of time to learn the PS3 and yet when a game is developed for both platforms simultaeously it still almost always looks and performs better on the 360. You can point to whatever PS3 exclusive you want, but that proves nothing because their is no direct equivalent to compare it to on the 360.

It's ridiculous. I mean, I have even heard certain fanboys claim games like Ratchet & Clank are graphically unrivaled by any 360 game, which is an utter joke because there are literally dozens of games that look as good or better on the 360.
I just can't understand how some people can get so disconnected from reality.

And you are right, Alan Wake does look amazing. I have been playing it and it looks as good as any game on any console. In many ways it does things that I have never seen done as well in other games. Oh the resolution? If you can't notice it, who cares. MGS4 is sub hd and that didnt stop some people from thinking it was one of the best looking games around.

Resolution is only a very small part of graphics and it also depends on how good the upscaling is. Some sub hd games don't upscale well and some you can't even tell they are sub hd. That's the simple truth.

MORGiON5072d ago

@hallmark

your statment proves that graphically you have NFI!

Nihilism5072d ago

Wow, fanboys are in serious denial, it looks better than KZ2 by far, screen tear can easily be eliminated, if that was on console than I am impressed, it looks waaaaaay better than I thought it would, it actual has draw distances more than 10 metres ( you know where everything isn't hidden by pseudo-depth of field for "artistic sake" )

Animations are mind blowing too, better than the first crysis and again...better than killzone 2, just watch the part where that guy gets blown away by the machine gun...bam!
This easily looks like crysis on high, and I think the graphical style is even better, can't wait to see how it runs on PC

BattleAxe5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

How would you know, You don`t own a PS3.

grailly5073d ago

Even though the graphics are good, they didn't show anything fun, new or original. Not hyped yet

callahan095073d ago

I totally agree. The game that this looked most similar to, actually, was The Conduit. The level design, enemy design, and gameplay in general just really reminded me of The Conduit, which was a beautiful game on Wii, but the gameplay itself was just mediocre at best. I wasn't a big fan of the original Crysis, either. It just wasn't particularly fun. It started out fun, playing with the nano suit's unique abilities, but it just started to feel really repetitive and bland after a while. I don't think Crysis 2 will be anything special. The graphics weren't that great either. I've seen plenty of better looking games, and there seemed to be some significant screen tearing issues there too.

Aphe5073d ago

No the gameplay in Crysis was excellent, there was so many ways you could go through it. It was far more exciting to play than another FPS that gets mentioned in every Crysis article anyway.

callahan095072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

You really didn't start to get bored of it? I got bored of it after a few hours and never ended up beating the game. Sometimes I'd have fun going back to the early parts of the game when you first start to get the rocket launcher and there's buildings around and just blow them pieces to witness the awesome destruction engine, but the plot was boring and the objectives that you were *supposed* to do to progress through the game weren't fun for me. I moved on to other games rapidly.

And you didn't get a Conduit vibe from this gameplay footage? The enemies and the layout of the levels reminded me so much of The Conduit. I know The Conduit was in DC and this is in New York, but it just looked so similar to me.

Aphe5072d ago

No i didn't, I loved every minute of it. I've played through it several times and still enjoy it. Depends how inventive and imaginative you are I suppose, it's like a huge playground. So many things to do.

Hiding in a bush then going invisible, grabbing some guy and throwing him high up in the air then going invisible to another bush before anyones the wiser never gets old. Or just smashing the hell out of the distructable buildings and killing everyone in sight.

There's loads of ways to play it, and it's huge. Can't wait for the sequel tbh.

beavis4play5072d ago

YOUR pc crowd are there talking about crysis and how superior it is.
that stuff goes both ways; so, stop acting like pc fans don't spam console articles with pc nonsense.

I agree the gameplay might not be that great....we will just have to wait and see about that...but you can't tell me the graphics were not totally amazing.....what are these better looking games you are talking about?

MegaPowa5073d ago

being able to play in many different ways is not fun to you!? >:o the suit customization is pretty cool to me

grailly5072d ago

might be fun, but they didn't show it. What we saw was very basic FPS gameplay showcasing parts of the nanosuit abilities

Colonel-Killzone5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

The graphics looks nice and polished. Nothing special though in terms of gameplay. But its only 1 gameplay trailer so I will wait to see some more in the future to make my final decision.

madkrazygames5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

Yea Crysis 2 looks real sharp, but Vanquish looks like you're playing an anime. I can't wait for this title.

Edit:

Also what is Sam Fisher doing in Red Faction? Did his contract expire for the Splinter Cell series?

RememberThe3575073d ago

It looks great, not mind blowing. Maybe if we see more we can judge it better. Besides it looks pretty damn fun, so I don't see any problem.

IrishAssa5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

Well it wouldn't be so bad if the Dev's didn't say they blew the competition away. They don't, they look good but they don't blow anything away from the looks of this.

Death24945072d ago

Killzone2 and for you people who are talking about it probably don't even own it. Killzone 2 will be near 2 years old when this game launches, I'd be proud of myself is people are comparing my game to some new FPS's out there. With all that aside, Crysis2 looks gorgeous for a game running at 60fps. Another thing i thought about was that you could put mods made for pc, on the ps3 (Unreal Tournament 3).

raztad5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Crysis 2 will be running at 30fps. kinda concerned about tearing. There is lot of tearing in that footage. I hope Crytek release some HD footage.

flash2405072d ago

You compare every game that isnt killzone to being polished. You have no valid points at all, nobodys talking about killzone being polished up but yet you assume this game is polished. I rest my case we will both have to wait to make further decisions

I expect more of it if i listed from Crytec arrogants talk about other games.

The game look very good, i only hope that Crysis 2 has more polish grafichs and Visuals. The atmosphere compensates that.
