Multiplayer: Pool Pro Online 3 is definitely a great pool simulator, marked by a high level of technical achievement. The physical movement of the balls is highly likely, the control system is perfectly calibrated and matches are very entertaining.
Pool Pro Online 3 for iPad, a $2 game from Namco Networks America, is a study in contrasts. The pool hall looks pretty impressive, with nice 3D graphics. The gameplay is pretty intuitive, too. But a MIDI-esque, repetitive soundtrack, coupled with some amateurish in-game notifications, combine to make the game’s overall effect less impressive than it should be.
Al Zamora of DualShockers writes, "Have you ever wanted to be a hustler? A pool hustler that is. Well now is your chance to pony up on your iPad and start hitting balls like they owe you money. “Oh, did I stutter? Everybody gone all quiet and shit? About a minute ago it was like an evening at the Apollo up in this motherf***er, now all of a sudden it’s quiet as a church.”
Name where that line is from for bonus DualShockers points?"
I sure wouldn't hustling online some time in a title like this especially for the price it's being offered at. It's good to see game play footage of a game while considering the review of it at the same time.
This series of pool games is very entertaining and provide great options. Look for it on the PC as well.
Pocket Gamer:
As I've only met one iPhone developer who isn't planning to release launch games for iPad, I'm starting to get a little concerned about just how much supersized content is about to hit.
At least Namco's Pool Pro Online 3 has some context, both in terms of being a game that will work well in the larger format, as well as supporting multiplayer across iPad, iPhone, Android, PC and in time Java and Brew.
