PS3 firmware for 3D Blu-ray 'by the end of the year'

Sony has officially confirmed that PS3 will require a separate firmware update to support new 3D Blu-ray discs.

Sony says that the new firmware update will be released 'by the end of the year'.

This confirms reports that the previously-released PS3 3D firmware update (version 3.30) back in April only added support for 3D gaming, and not 3D Blu-ray movie discs.

PS3 get its first 3D games on June 10.

Hmm, alright.

''£2000+ 3DTVs ''

¿? If you want a 3DTV bigger than 40'' those cost more than 1000.

What about this TV from Philips:

Like always, this kind of Technology, like 3DTVS, is overpriced, I hope a drop of price.

booni33059d ago

of buying another tv for 3d is just awful, terrible considering i just bought my hdtv for $600 not three months ago, now i need this to get the best experience? gtfo

So you expect Sony to wait for you to upgrade to a 3DTV to launch 3D facility? It's technology, it evolves with time, too bad you were an adopter during the time of transition. And it's not as if Sony is thrusting 3D down your throat... It always will support 2D, but for the ones who want to experience 3D, it's giving them an option.

Well boohoo. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade to 3dTV. It's just another one of those luxury features wealthier people get to own first. Technology in general advances rapidly, simple as that. Wait a couple more years then you may get to enjoy it too.

Oh here we go...
"This new technology is expensive! New technology has never been expensive before! WAAAAAAA"

TV technologies are advancing incredibly quickly these days. I'll bet entry-level 3DTVs will be a lot cheaper in a year or two.

Strange_Evil3059d ago

Not even a year, the rates are pretty reasonable... Check out the Samsung 40" 3DTV which sells at around 1000£ (around 1500$). Thats pretty reasonable for a technology that has just entered the market. Hell I paid 2000$ for my HDTV 3 years back and I remember the times when HDTVs used to sell at 5000$...

Below is the link if you don't believe me.

when you bought your high definition console didn't you at some point decide you needed to buy a high definition tv???

ALFAxD_CENTAURO3059d ago (Edited 3059d ago )

I will buy a 3DTV, especially for KZ3, that's for sure, in the next year. But now, for me, is not necessary.

Note: I'm excited about the whole 3D Technology, but I feel bad about the price, just I hope a drop of price next year. At least for a 32''.

You guys need to relax, 3D is much cheaper then when HDTVs first came out, cost them very little atm to put it in. They are more or less just charging you a sir price for them right now till more 3D content is on the market.

Heisenberg3059d ago (Edited 3059d ago )

But it's here to stay, and it's only gonna get better and cheaper as time goes on. Xmas 2012 will likely be a big season for 3DTV, or at least 2013.. I'm sure anyone looking for a new TV around that time will gravitate towards the 3D option.

sikbeta3059d ago (Edited 3059d ago )

3D is Awesome, people can bashing it and say crap but when this thing become mainstream they'll enjoy 3D as much as everyone...

xHarvey3059d ago (Edited 3059d ago )
^^ we'll be very old though when its out for everyone.

SuperSaiyan43059d ago

From what I know you STILL need those silly glasses to watch 3D doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of a 3D TV?? I have seen 3D movies on old box televisions.

NecrumSlavery3059d ago

Red/Blue pop outs of bubbles isn't 3D. It's not about flashy gimmicks. There's a depth with Real D technology that's amazing to watch. Being able to see depth is awesome and will make for some of the best gaming out there.

Microsoft Xbox 3603059d ago

Yes, educate yourself before you start writing it off. The 3D of old is NOTHING like the tech we have today.

Remmulak3059d ago

I was thinking that it wouldn't be worth it until I went into a Sony store and saw Wipeout HD and Motorstorm in 3D. It was like the first time you saw 3D graphics in a game and were blown away. I was sold.

Now don't get me wrong, I won't be buying it right away, but it is definitely now on my radar.
